Vince is the only person who can consistently create his own shot. Richard Jefferson does not have the ball handling ability and Kidd needs to spot up to shoot the basketball.
Well, this loss is a bad sign, but it isn't the end of the world. To put it optimistically, the Nets only had their home court advantage negated.

Vince was consider the best shooting guard in the league and better than Kobe the first 3 seasons of his career, but he got injured, then lost his cool, and his motivation, but had he work to gain back his game, he would be still improving today.
I look at VC's game today, and know it is far from the monster like Vince I see a few years back...

Nope. He played hard and it showed, and it's only one game. One game, especially one first round playoff game, isn't going to make or break anything,

Vince Carter's good but when he's not shooting so well they should've gone with their better performers. Didn't Krstic shoot 9-15 or 11-15, something like that? The problem with him is that he's an inconsistent player. Some days he's pathetic and some days he really inspires them. But the Nets are kinda responsible for still setting up shots for him instead of RJ, Krstic, and the others.

Carter can have an itchy trigger at times. I've looked at some of the shots he's taken at the shot chart on NBA.com and he's taken these near half court three pointers. Even the after-injury Vince Carter in Toronto did not do that.
But still, he attacked the rim and was agressive nonetheless. He had double digits in rebounding and 4 offensive boards, so he was at least giving an effort in that department. Its just that he can get careless and drift off into la la land and then hurls up stupid shots.

Isn't that like what everyone's criticizing Mike James for?
Carter has no judgement, or else he'd be excellent.
Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:09 pm
It is really is attacking the rim problem. He don't get to the freethrow line, and are very streak at getting there when he does. Thus, the defender and ref don't really give him the respect he needs.
Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:21 pm
He took a lot of bad shots, but when you consider his rebounding, assists, making some defensive plays for them, and coming through down the stretch, that was far from choking.

He's supposed to be a "franchise player". I don't think the everyday standards of "well, he tried hard" or "oh look, he made some hustle plays" should apply. He should be dominating the game, and 'putting his team on his back' , but obviously that didn't happen.

Who says what he's 'supposed to be'?
He is what he is.

and it's just a single game....i'm sure he'll make adjustments down the line.

Mike James plays purely for stat-padding and he's purposely playing like a douchebag to earn a big payday.
At least Carter passes the ball at times.

I was gonna say he's a franchise player because of his large contract but that says nothing these days..
Wed Apr 26, 2006 8:35 am
He's a franchise player becuase of how well he plays, not his contract. 24 ppg, 6rpg, 4 apg, and single handedly resurected the nets when he arrived last season. he belongs in the top 10 players in the nba right now at the very least.

I think both of those statements are a bit of a stretch to say the least.

How can you say he didnt? When he arrived in new jersey, they were way out of contention for a playoff spot. In his 57 games with new jersey, he averaged 27.5 ppg, 6 rebounds, 5 apg. Before he arrived, the Nets were 10-16, and his play was the reason they finished 42-40.

I misread/understood it, I thought it said he singlehandly ressurected the Nets to the playoffs this year, which he didn't singlehandlely, as in my opinion, Kidd's been the main reason.
But what about the second one?
Wed Apr 26, 2006 10:01 am
Well, he's in my top 10:
1. Kobe
2. Lebron
3. Garnett
4. Dirk
5. Wade
6. Nash
7. Brand
8. Carter
9. Iverson
10. Shaq

Kidd has gotten better as a point guard too. Although his scoring's down, he's doing more in the assists and rebounding columns and leaving scoring to Nenad, RJ, and VC.
And as him becoming a better passer and doing the dirty work, it gives the others a chance to shine.
Wed Apr 26, 2006 12:00 pm
Kidd has always been like that, the only reason he was a scorer in those finals runs was becuase they had Keith Van Horn and Kerry Kittles as their two best scorers

Why is it every time I glance at this thread I think it says "Da Vinci Code"?
