Off-Season Thread

Postby Blasphemy on Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:58 am

I dunno maybe this thread is a bad idea but was thinking whats you guys wanted to talk about in the off-season.

My suggestions for teams are...

Lakers- Get a better PF, trade Smush, and they need a good rookie

Sixers- Trade Korver, Train Iggy to score more, and stop letting Webber take so many shots.

Pacers- Trade Fred Jones and Sarunas

Knicks- Get rid of Larry Brown, Get rid of Francis, start Robinson and Frye and make them get better.

Bobcats- Get 1 or 2 good rookeis in the draft and try to get a star (i.e maybe Steve Francis, Stephon Marybury or Kevin Garnett)

So waht do you guys think should happen in the off-season?

i pretty much agree with none of those except the lakers one. I'm neutral on the pacers one...

The sixers need to trade iverson if they want to win, they've always put good talent around him and they never get past the first or second round.

The Knicks need to get rid of marbury, somehow, because things just arent working out there for them, if they could somehow get the marbury/francis duo to work though, and curry and frye develop, and crawford can adapt to the 3 spot, that'd be one of the better teams in the league.

The T-Wolves need to trade kevin garnett to start winning again, they owe him a championship or a trade and i think the latter is the most likely. I'm sensing a trade that sends Lamar Odom and perhaps 2 other lakers (maybe deavean george) to minnesota and the lakers get Garnett, or the Sonics Send Ray Allen and maybe one other player like Swift or Petro to the Wolves for Garnett

The Raptors have quite a long list.

Get rid of that poor excuse for a basketball player named Mike James and get a legitimate big man for the first time in franchise history. I'm tired of seeing us getting killed on the glass and crushed on the inside by scrubby centres who look like the next Shaquille O'Neal against us.

Get rid of Matt Bonner. He spends too much time sleeping with Sam Mitchell to get playing time. If he's not getting it up the ass from Mitchell, he's either losing the ball from trying to create off the dribble (which he clearly can't), or playing attrocious defence.

Replace Rafael Araujo with a wooden plank. Both play equally the same amount of defence but at least the wooden plank can play better defence without picking up any stupid fouls or it wouldn't miss chippies from within two feet of the basket.

Joey Graham needs to work on his ball handling because the guy's dribbling is as weak as it can get. He's a decent shooter when he gets his feet set and he's got a ton of strength, so he'll really start scoring around 12-15 ppg if he can dribble the ball.

Heck, probably 2/3 of the roster needs a complete overhaul, but the Raptors have got plenty of cap space this season and I'm hoping for something positive out of Colangelo.

Bonner is king. I know he has some crap ass defense but I like what he is giving us from the bench but Sam over uses him. I know he has great work ethics but doesn't YET deserve 25-30 mins a game. Whatever, I like this kids effort and attitude.

I know alot of people dislike James but I don't mind him. Doesn't matter to me if he stays or goes but if I had to choose, rather see him stay.

As for Araujo, I don't really care what happens to him.

Like what Its_asdf, we need a legitimate big man. With the cap we have, maybe we can pick one up or even trade for one.

Yeah, those guys would fit in with the hard working, tough team of winners the Bobcats are trying to build.

I don't see why they'd trade Smush, if there's any way of picking up a better PG he'd make a great back-up off the bench. I'd rather have him than Vujacic who seems to do absolutely nothing. Luke Walton has to stay also.

Nobody is going to take Smush. He is clearly not a distributor (only averaging 3.7 assists as a PG), and his scoring is merely 'average' and probably is on par with everyone else who averages 34 minutes per game.

Sixers don't need to get rid of Korver... they need to get rid of Billy King.

Jazz need to pick up one good permiter player to become to top 5 or 6 team.

Chicago needs someone up front other than Tyson Chandler. How the fuck is he still in the NBA? He's a bigger bust than Shawn Bradley.

Effort and attitude can get you so far. Everything was fine when he was playing the way he was supposed to be playing last year (Just come in and shoot), but since he's been so inconsistent this season, and even when he does have a half decent offensive game, the best he can put out his like 8-10 points while getting torched at the other end of the court.

I know alot of people dislike James but I don't mind him. Doesn't matter to me if he stays or goes but if I had to choose, rather see him stay.

 Where's a barf emoticon when you need it? DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT HE DOES ON THE COURT? Its ridiculous he can get away with playing such selfish, arrogant, and stupid basketball. God, I want to just strangle the shit out of you for saying that. :furious:

I think I just popped a blood vessel just by picturing the words that you've typed.

Well it's easy to say "start Robinson and Frye and make them get better."
If it was that easy i think i would be saying it to the entire Raptor roster. But the truth is, you need to give them time. You can't just say "make them get better." Get better how? But i have no doubt those guys are talented will be a star in the future.

A lot of your suggestions are obvious and yet hard to get done. How in the world are the Bobcats gonna get Francis, Marbury or KG? Who do they have on their roster that other team would want in return? You need to be more realistic.

Suns

Get Amare healthy and ready to go.

Get someone who can relieve Nash without as much of a drop in the playmaking. Barbosa is a good enough scoring point guard, but a pass-first player needs to be brought in. Someone that Steve can groom and teach the tricks of the trade to.

I'm sorry. I love players that work hard too, but in the end its not worth investing in because that player sucks.

That's one time, and i know they went far that year, but they havent come close to getting back, ever.

They made big moves in the past couple years to get the sixers back to the finals but it hasnt worked.

Be Honest, do you seriously think the sixers will get back to the finals by the time iverson's career ends if they keep doing what they're doing?

Rockets - Be healthy, get rid of gayho, pick a 6'7" swingman in the draft that can shoot, sign a rebounder next to yao, fire jvg and let siwft play.

Sixers- Trade Korver

Why trade Korver? He would be a great 6th man. Sixers NEED to trade Iverson and Webber (but who the fuck wants webber) if they are going to go anywhere

As for Nicks - trade everyone

For the Suns, i think Colin is spot on.

First and Foremost, they have to get Amare ready to go. Secondly they need a protege for Nashty.

Whos coming out in the draft that we could look at? Dee Brown is probably the most realistic considering the pick we will get, but hes more of a Barbosa isnt he? (Scorer)
