Superstars and Reserve Players - Who is luckier?

Not all superstars get the privilege of winning a championship. There's a long list of great players like Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, Kevin Garnett, ... who have never/not yet won championships. Despite so, they gained their popularity in the league.

On the other hand, there are players who are not so popular yet they won titles. Even if you're on the reserved list, you still get a championship ring if your team wins right?

So who is luckier? The superstar who is popular but pretty banged up after a season or the reserved player who wins a championship but is not known?

Overall, I'd say the superstar is still the luckier individual since they possess more skill and talent, secure a better financial future and get most of the credit when things are going well. But former greats like Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone and John Stockton might have a different perspective, though I'd suggest they're still quite happy with their careers on the whole.

Steve Kerr is probably the luckiest reserve player to win a championship ring. All he had to do at that time was to enter the game, hit some outside shots, probably play a few defense and BOOM five NBA rings altogether. And he was lucky to have that commentator job at TNT eventually.

If I could be Robert Horry, I'd pass on being someone like say... Paul Pierce, I think superstars who will be remembered for a long long time are luckier than reserve players. But if you're gonna be a reserve and be fairly well known for a lil while... as compared to superstars who will be forgotten, I say the rings

I'd rather be a superstar than a 'famous' reserve player who wins tons of championships. #1, I'd earn ten times the money reserve does, #2, I'd play more and have a bigger role and more responsibility in winning games.

I think it's just as good for both. Yes, as a superstar you're now a celebrity that will go down in history...but as reserve..you don't do much work and you're making fucking MILLIONS. Your personal life isn't bombarded with papparazzi...you have a normal life after retirement..hell..you're even more likely to continue as a head coach. Let's face it....past reserve players make the best current head coaches.

Reserves have to work just as hard if not harder than superstars because they lack talent and position superstars have.

They don't have to work as hard during the game...that's my point. Everyone works had in practise and what not.

I'd rather be the superstar. I'd feel like I didn't contribute to the rings if I were just a reserve player. I doubt Darko feels like he helped the Pistons earn the championship...

Yup Robert Horry. I remember reading somewhere he jacked up a lot of three's one year in the playoffs when he was with the Lakers and Shaq and Kobe were getting the blame for losing but he's not A. Walker pre-Miami like in the rest of his career though. He must pray to every god from every religion for all the clutch shots we remember him for.

Just see how many superstars don't get a championship ring.
And you have to be very lucky to get a ring,because how many players can say the got a ring from the NBA.Only a few off all of the players.

I'd rather be a superstar. If I don't win a championship, then I want to know it's because of me, I couldn't play well enough on the big game or I missed the big shot, I'd rather take the blame then sit in the background with no chance of being able to make a big impact.

I'd like to be a role player, but not to the point where I become the team's cheerleader off the bench (Mark Pope). I'd like to be someone like a fringe starter/sixth/seventh man.

I'd like to be a superstar, just to be well-known and be able to be the 'man' when it comes to big games. Eventually, I'll still have my Hall of Fame award to cover for that lack of championship trophy.

However, if by reserve you mean a 5-8 guy who contributes every game and is an 'x-factor' kind of player, then I'll be the reserve.

I completely agree.

I got 3 championship rings, but I only played 5 minutes in the Finals.

Shareef hasn't even made the playoffs, let alone the finals. That'll change if the Kings make the post season.
