It's not a career jepoardizing injury, he busted a tiny bone in his foot and he'll be full strength by next season, it was just bad timing that it ends the season for him.

And he's not the best center in the league, guys like Shaq and Ben Wallace are better any day, because they have more defense than ming could ever hope for.

Yao Ming is consistently at the top of the list of most overrated players in the NBA.....

He's awesome and one of the best centers no doubt, but he is still overrated. You also have the biased opinion of being an asian in houston, lol.

You can have the same arguement that Ben Wallace compared to Yao has no offense. Ming's got more offense than Wallace can ever hope for....

Yep, for the last 2 months, Yao's been probably the best all-around C in the League. TOugh that the season's over early but at least he's optimistic yeah?

Huge blow to the Rockets and another young star on the rise now has question marks hanging over his career, at least for the moment. Who would've thought Houston's season would have been so terrible, after they had a very productive offseason making some good acquisitions on low risk moves. They've been jinxed all season (and for once, I didn't have anything to do with it).

In any event, while I don't claim to be a huge Yao fan I hope his career isn't over and that he will recover from this setback. He's been very impressive since the All-Star break and like Amare, it would be a real shame if he joined the list of players whose careers were derailed and fizzled out far too early.

Are you kidding me? Ilgauskas has 6 screws in one foot, 7 in the other, so screws are not a problem. Ilgauskas had about 4-5 injuries like this, so I don't think this is serious.

I didn't mean the screws aren't a problem, cause when you play with screws, you make a huge risk to your health, but it's not a problem when you talk about the end of a career, cause, although the recovery is very long, painful and difficult, you can be almost in full shape after you recover.

True...in the best case scenario. Hopefully that's how it will turn out with Yao.

If it was really serious, Yao wouldn't have been able to walk at all after breaking it. Instead, he played for a minute before going out, and he didn't have to be helped off by his teammates. I realise that. I was referring to the article that mentioned it's sometimes a necessity with the kind of fracture he's reported as having suffered.

Yes..and people were remarking how amazed they are that he not only has a career..but he's one of the top "pure" centers in the league. It's an anomoly.

It says Okur kicked him, he limped and kept playing, then later on Kirilenko stepped on his foot, then played a little bit more, then finally left the game. To me it would be sad if all this could have been prevented if he had been checked out after the first incident with Okur.

Perhaps there has been some unnecessary doom and gloom talk, but then again Grant Hill's injury wasn't originally expected to be career altering either. Perhaps it's not as serious as it's been made out to be but it's hardly a small bruise (though that can still keep a player out of a game, as Derrick Coleman once demonstrated).

No one said that he has a screw in his foot, we were just pondering about the worst case scenario if he did indeed need screws in his broken foot.

I was reading an aritcle.. interesting fact. that infection in his toe reduced the size of his left foot by 1 size...

They say it takes four to six months to heal it. Won't that also affect Houston's 06/07 season? Six months from now is the start of the next season and he won't be able to work on his game, conditioning or lower body strength. The injury will cause inbalance of leg strength and Yao will have to go through long and painfully recovery program once he gets rid of the braces. The good thing is that he won't have to play for the Chinese national team and that he'll be able to work on his upper body in the gym.
