Yao Ming BREAKS his foot.

Postby kevC on Tue Apr 11, 2006 1:39 pm

I felt that this deserved its own thread aside of the Yao Watch thread.

No one knows how serious it is yet but it'll at least take him out of the entire off-season. It could be even as serious as putting his career on jeopardy as it is the same foot he had his surgery on.

I'm a little bit dead inside.

I'm going to go cry now.

I'm going to go cry now.

^

Seriously though, this has not been a good season for the rockets organization. Now who is gonna come out and watch their games?

If it really is a career ending injury, its just sad. It willl be one of the biggest "what ifs"

Updates from yaomingmania:

MONDAY, 4/10/06 (10:00pm Central time) - As shown above, Yao broke his foot less than an hour ago in the Rockets game against Utah. He suffered a “Jones fracture,” and is obviously out for the rest of the season. I looked it up, and here’s a definition of the injury:

A Jones fracture is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the foot. The fifth metatarsal is at the base of the small toe, and the proximal end, where the Jones fracture occurs, is in the midportion of the foot. Patients who sustain a Jones fracture have pain over this middle/outside area of their foot, swelling, and difficulty walking.

Treatment of an acute Jones fracture that is not significantly displaced consists of a cast or walking boot for 6-8 weeks. Patients should not place weight on the foot until instructed by their doctor.

Jones fractures can become chronic conditions if the fracture fails to unite. If this is the case, surgery will likely be recommended to secure the fracture in place with a screw.

A screw? A SCREW??

Wow.

This fucking sucks. Yao is the only really good center in the league besides Shaq, who obviously wont be around many more years.

Hopefully he won't need the screw. If he does, I doubt he'll be able to play effectively ever again. That much activity from such a huge frame on a foot hinged together by a screw spells intermitent disaster.

Panic time in Houston... again.

after a very long time to think about his career

*cough cough*

two minutes. I realized that he is already slow, and this foot injury will just ruin his career like Thug Yohance said.

Personally i'm glad, that fucker pisses me off in NBA Live, every year he's the god damned MVP and when you play him he gets like 40 pts from FSS jump shots where he leans back so far his ass is on the floor and his hands are so far in front of him his shot is released above the back board. Half his shots roll off the top of the backboard and he gets the offensive rebound and then puts it up.

Ilgauskus does that too, but not as bad.

Yeah that's a completely reasonable reaction to a potential career-jeopardizing injury to the best center in the league.

It's not a career jepoardizing injury, he busted a tiny bone in his foot and he'll be full strength by next season, it was just bad timing that it ends the season for him.

And he's not the best center in the league, guys like Shaq and Ben Wallace are better any day, because they have more defense than ming could ever hope for.

Yao Ming is consistently at the top of the list of most overrated players in the NBA.....

He's awesome and one of the best centers no doubt, but he is still overrated. You also have the biased opinion of being an asian in houston, lol.

If you really think Ben Wallace is better than Yao, you really have no argument. And you don't understand how devastating a foot injury can be to a big guy.

Not a career jeopardizing injury? Do you know a professional basketball player with screws in the bones of his feet?

This is not good. But on the other hand, it might not be as bad as it seems. First of all, the article says that only "if the fracture fails to unite", then "surgery will likely be recommended to secure the fracture in place with a screw". Only. There is no positive evidence about how bad it is. If it was really that bad, then why did he not go out until a minute later? And it must not be really that bad if he was able to make a free throw after that.

Maybe in the past, but lately he has been averaging 27pts, 11rbds and nearly 2 blocks a game... If you play like that, its very, very hard to be overrated
