After totally destroying the Wizards the Pistons now host the Lakers.
The Lakers have offensive dynamo Kobe Bryant who is averaging almost 29ppg.
Still the Lakers shouldn't be much of a problem for the Pistons as long as they shut down Kobe.
Look for some interesting matchups as Rip will be playing limited minutes as he has just returned from injury.
Tayshaun Prince will likely guard Kobe.

Kobe's 31 didnt give the Lakers the push past the Pistons.
The Pistons plan to shut down Kobe may not have worked, but the Pistons shut down the rest of the Lakers nicely.
The plan for the Pistons was to have Prince guard Kobe,
but with Rip Hamilton only playing limited minutes it meant that with Tayshuan guarding Kobe
there was either Delfino or Evans on Odom.
Coach Saunders quickly recognised this and decided to put his better defender on Odom
letting Kobe have his 30 while making sure they shut down the rest of the Lakers.

With Kobe having his way on offense, the Lakers quickly got out to a 2 point lead and held it to the end of the 1st.
During the second the Detroit crowd grew quiet as the Lakers extended their lead out to 10 at one point,
however the Pistons managed to pull it back to 6 by intermisson.
The Pistons came out of the locker room firing and went on a 10-0 run to outscore the Lakers by 12 in the 3rd.
The dominance continued into the 4th with Pistons finishing strong for a 12 point victory.

Kobe top scored with 31 points while shooting 12-24 from the field and 4-5 from 3pt,
he also added 6 rebounds and 8 assists.
Billups toyed with a triple double, putting up 20 points 7 assists and 8 rebounds.
Prince was the top scorer for the Pistons with 21 points he also added 10 rebounds and 2 blocks

Kobe Bryant was frustrated with the loss:
"We let a good win slip away here, we didnt find a good way to stop their momentum,
they did a great job of isolating our offense and focusing on taking shots away from the other guys on the court."

Rips ankle was still not 100% so he sat as soon as he felt a twinge || Billups pulled out this great 360 dunk during the Pistons 10-0 run in the third.
ImageImage
Hunter must have been happy with the win, but his limited minutes (4) mustt be frustrating || Billups once again finding an easy way to the hoop

Next up: @ Denver Nuggets

good stuff you came up with the win (Y)

After a great game vs the Lakers the Pistons now head to Denver to face the Nuggets.
Will the higher altitude of Denver help the Nuggets to tire the Pistons early?
Carmelo Anthony has teamed up with Kenyon Martin to make a formidable frontcourt duo.
Look for the battle of Melo and Martin vs Prince and Sheed to be a good one.

This game was not what it was expected to be it was basically over from the start.
Denver never once had the lead in this game, and never looked to be in a better condition than the Pistons.
The front court battle was easily won by the Pistons outscoring the Denver one 56-38.

Each quarter the amount that Detroit out scored the Nuggets increased, resulting in a 33 point victory for Detroit.
The Pistons did not slack off in the 4th like some teams would, instead finishing with their best quarter of the game
to send a message out to their up coming opponents.

Rasheed Wallace had a dominant gmae with 37 points and 14 boards on 17-23 shooting.
Rip Hamilton had a great game back from injury with 27 points and 3 steals.
Carmelo had it going in the 1st half but ended with 19 points on 8-20 shooting.
Dre Miller added 11 points and 9 assists.

Coach Flip Saunders was happy with the game:
"I think we sent out a message to the league, many thought theat we would be weak in the higher altitude and get run over,
but we proved that we are not only the toughest but also one of the fittest teams out there."

ImageImage
Sheed dominated all over the floor, using his vast array of offensive moves || K-Mart did put up some highlights, but only got off 8 shots due to great Detroit Defense.
ImageImage
Melo was hot in the first half, but he cooled off, and couldnt hit when they really needed it || Prince connects on a great alleyoop pass from Billups

Nex Game: @ Clippers

damn rasheed went nuts

The Pistons look like they are on their way to sweeping the month,
all that stands in their way is the Clippers, possibly one of the most underrated teams.
The Los Angeles offense is a lot more powerful than most think so this will test Detroits defense once again.

        Image 122 @ 91 Image

Once again the Pistons opponent decided not to bring their A game
The Clippers got completely blown out on their home court, in fact it seemed almost as if the fans were cheering for the Pistons.
The Pistons used a balanced attack to take the game with ease, scoring a great 122 points,
while holding the Clippers to 91.

The only moement of glory for the Clippers was leading 31-27 after the first.
From there onwards it was all Detroit,
a strong 28-13 3rd followed by a 38-21 4th were too much for any team to stop, let alone the Clippers.

Rasheed Wallace once again reached the 30 point plateau (32p) he also added 8 boards.
Ben Wallace dominated on D with 15 rebounds 2 steals and 7 blocks.
Mobley had 23 points but shot a horrible 2-10 from 3pt.
Chris Kaman had a nice double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Coach Flip Saunders was happy with the game:
"With the way we are playing it seems like anything is possible,
we are not only a great defensive team now, we also are very hard to stop on the other end,
If we continue this form I cant really see many teams posing much of a challenge for us."

Rip takes the charge on Elton Brand... then he celebrates it with a few fist pumps
ImageImage
Although held to only 16 points, Maggette still put up some great highlights || Livingston puts home the alley oop.

Billups with the buzzer beating 3 || The Billups-Prince connection, once again seen in action

December will be a month to remember for the Pistons.
Dominating all teams that came thier way, the Pistons actually looked unbeatable.
EVen in situations where they were behind, or the scores close, they played like they knew they would win.
To put their dominance in prespective just look at the average margin of victory for the Pistons for December, 24 points!
An interesting stat is the Pistons scoring which increased substantially over the month,
while still playing great defense.
This is a scary thing for the rest of the league as now the best defensive team looks to be on of the best on offense.
The pressure now goes on the Pistons to see if they can maintain this roll throughout Janurary and onwards.

Image
Image

A few Detroit players improved their stats over December.
With the rise in scoring it would be expected to see that reflected in the player averages.
The Pistons now have 3 players averagin over 20 points (Sheed, Rip and Chauncy)
Rasheed continues to average a double double and now is posting stats that put him in the top teir of forwards in the league.
Billups is also pushing on averaging a double double, now averaging an impressive 9.3 assists.
Despite injury Rip Hamilton still continues to provide Stable scoring to build the Pistons offense around.
Ben and Tay continue to dominate on defense with Ben controlling the Paint and Prince locking down the Premiter.

The League seems to have balanced itsself out now with the usual top contenders at the top of their conferences.
Supprises to be in playoff contention are the young Blazers who hold the 7th spot out west.
Toronto is also holding onto 5th in the East which is verysupprising as they were thought to be headed for the lottery this season.
Cleveland is currently holding 4th spot, yet have the 2nd best record in the L, its a pity they play in the same Div as Detroit.
KG's Wolves finally look like they have their shit sorted and are holding onto a respectable 3rd spot in the West.

Image
Image

With the League having balanced itself out, the conference report basically explains the divisional supprises.

Image
Image
Note: MVP Canidates included also.

T-Mac like KG is getting desperate for that ring, and it shows in the numbers he is putting up.
AI had a great month leading the 76ers to the 3rd spot in the East.
Andrew Bogut is continuing to play great this season, while Ike Diogu is looking like a supprise candidate for ROY.
It looks like you have to be scoring at about 26ppg or over to be a MVP candidate this year,
with 4 of them averaging over 28ppg, this will be a heated race to the finish.

Image
Image

The Scoring race continues to be a big one, P Double continues to average 35ppg,
but T-Mac and is closing in on him and KG, if T-Mac continues his big scoring games he could take the lead in Jan.
KG continues to dominate the boards, and is supprisingly followed by Eddy Curry who is criticised for laziness on the boards.
The Blocks category is now led 1 and 2 by the Wallaces, with Big Ben looking to be making a push for DPOY again.
Billups is once again top in steals, but AI has lifted all areas of his game and is catching up.
The assits race is a supprising one, with reigning MVP Steve Nash only in 3rd spot,
The Category is led by Pistons Captain Billups with 9.3 per game, with AI in 2nd with 8.6, Nash and Dre Miller are 3rd with a below par 7.8.
