Stupidest moves in the NBA 2005-06

Postby aldrin on Wed Apr 05, 2006 5:38 pm

What do you think were the stupidest moves in the league this year? I'll give you a few to get things started, no doubt there are plenty more where these came from:

For me, Anything involving Isiah Thomas (this could be a whole thread by itself)

The Knicks when they traded for Eddy Curry. They gave away an unprotected 1st rounder which is going to be top 3. Maybe #1. Whoever they draft will be better than Curry, not to mention cheaper. Plus they gave away Mike Sweetney.

And pretty much everything else the Knicks did this year.

I would agree, but he wanted out. He didnt want to play at all in Detroit, and probly asked the managers for a trade... so its sort of like the Carter deal in a way

You're right except for Sweetney, he hasn't really done shit for Chicago either. He was supposed to break out every season after his rookie year but it never happened and never will. He's just a fat, lazy bastard like Curry.

Swift is all what is stupid about this deal. He had/has potential to fit in that team, he's just to dumb to do it.

Derek Anderson for Gerald Fitch. The Rockets don't even have Fitch anymore so they don't have anything to show for that deal and I'm not sure what they hoped or expected to achieve by it. Perhaps I'm missing something but that deal was really odd.

Isiah Thomas' dealings have usually looked OK on paper but have more or less blown up in his face. At the very least, they haven't panned out as expected on paper.

Andersen wasn't doing anything good for them though, he is a slum on the defensive end and rarely shows up on the offensive end either although he can be a potent scorer when he puts his mind to it.

The Curry one was a complete shocker

His numbers in Houston were respectable though. It was unusual to see someone who's been (for the most part) a solid player since entering the league getting traded straight up for a player who's been in and out of the D-League and nothing else. I haven't seen much of Fitch but as I understand it he's not completely useless, but nevertheless it's a lopsided deal.

Yea I didn't really see a point of it either but oh well it was just another twist in what has been a weird year for Houston

The Rockets released Fitch and he went straight back to Miami.

Well there's a way to pwn yourself.

I also dislike the 10-day contract signing of Marcus Fizer. He's done.

That's right. Atlanta did that with the Gary Payton/Antoine Walker trade, but at least then they were getting cap relief. Houston's not in a position to make a run at any top free agents, getting Anderson's contract off the books doesn't make much of a dent.

Curry trade might be the worst. Bulls do get Isaiah's 1st pick in the upcoming draft, but they also get to swap picks in 2007, which opens the opportunity of getting two lottery picks out of this. And tack on the two 2nd round picks.

4 picks for Eddy Curry...now if the Bulls can only get Isaiah to draft the picks for them they'd be golden.

Derek Anderson wanted to play for a contender and since the Rockets were looking way out of the playoffs at that time they consented to deal him to Miami. He wasn't going to help them anyhow.

Hmm so many moves. If I have to not use any involving the Knicks...hmmm. Scalabrine is definately up there. I like the Mason-Magloire trade. As Hollinger asked, is it possible for both teams to lose a trade?

The Wolves getting Marko Jaric has been another bust move. Especially at $8 million per.

I gotta go with Jerome James to the Knicks. Too big of a contract for so little playing time.

he seems like a fat, lazy bastard hehe

Sweetney was a thrown in for the deal so anything they can get out of him will be a bonus. Sweetney's been starting btw
