do you see lebron james as a future star

Tue Jun 24, 2003 1:55 am

do you see lebron james as a future hall of famer, all star, mvp winner, and all that good stuff that michael jordan has won. i personally think lebron is a great player and he's from akron. i used to live in akron and hes the best player out of akron.

all of these.he will win mvp,all star of course, and hall of famer, and finals mvp(not in cavs)i like lebron much.he is my favourite rookie with anthony .

its hard to answer that because James only dominated some teens on a high school level. to answer that we just have to w8 till he plays against the best players in the world. Anything can happen, he can be a flop, he can break his knee and forced to retire....1st let him play before we talk about the possibility of beeing a hall of famer and stuff...but I think he will be an All-Star in his 1st season even if hes a 15ppg, 4 ass and 5 reb player because of the hype he brought

Tue Jun 24, 2003 7:01 am

kobe4mvp,

If James averages 15 ppg, 4 apg, and 5 rpg that, IMO, would be exceeding expectations for his rookie year. I don't think that a lot of people expect him to come out and average 25-30 points per game in his rookie year...maybe in his third or fourth year you'll begin to see these numbers consistently. Remember how long it took Kobe or T-Mac to gain the confidence to excel at the professional level.

Tue Jun 24, 2003 7:01 am

think u r right kobe :)

Tue Jun 24, 2003 7:20 am

Everything is up to Lebron himself( except for the finals MVP). He is pumped up by the press and hopefully he doesn't break and can handle the pressure he is given. Everyone hopes the maximum for him, but he is still a human so let's wait and see.... I hope he can lead the Cavaliers to the PO's, maybe not upcoming season, but maybe abaout 2 or 3 years! :)

Tue Jun 24, 2003 9:56 am

it's too early to tell...ask this same question in exactly a year....it would be so much clearer by then.........hundreds of factores can stop him from being an MVP/ all-star, etc....

meanwhile....bowyer...could you please make your signature a bit smaller...it's huge and it's streaching the text....

Tue Jun 24, 2003 1:53 pm

bowyer...

Tue Jun 24, 2003 2:16 pm

Too early to tell, but I think he will be successful. His best years probably won't come early, but I don't think he'll be terrible in his first few seasons.

I'm sick of Lebron already

Thu Jun 26, 2003 10:35 am

He's going to get abused. Regardless of what any NBA player tells you they are pissed that he's rcvd so much hype and 90 mil. from Nike.

Every night the he's going to face a Veterans and these guys are going to kill him because their rep is at stake and they can't let an 18 year old kid show off.

Does anyone really think this kid can matchup with Spree, Richard Jefferson, Corliss Williamson, Ron Artest (ouch), Big Dog?

He won't even matchup with Tayshaun Price or Drew Gooden.

Clevland fans will be dissappointed. Half his own team won't like him and they only hired the coach because he agreed to play the kid alot.

Love it or hate it! It's the truth.

They better not think about putting the kid at SG and face AI, Rip, Stack, Jason Terry, Kobe, T-Mac.

By the end of December the kid will wish he went to college.

Thu Jun 26, 2003 1:27 pm

Now there's a bold prediction. :)

On the eve of draft day! What you thought I was finished?

Thu Jun 26, 2003 2:36 pm

I'm working the graveyard shift reading various articles about the draft and many of the players involved. I found this article that I agree with and I wanted to get other opinions on the kid!
http://www.msnbc.com/news/930964.asp?0cb=-41a916#BODY

I think Paul Silas should have taken the job in Washington or Philly instead of dealing with the kid and his crazy a$$ mother.

ok, no I"m done.....................I think

Madhooper, Don't get me wrong here, i am not a huge Lebron fan, but i do believe these are about the same things that were said about Kobe when he was coming straight out of High school.
The first 5 SF's that you mentioned, in my opinion he would get the best of all of them.

Since the Cav's are in the East, the kid will shine. (Is there a reason that almost every player that you named is from an East team?

The West is where it's at! :)

i think artest would put James on lockdown, barring he doesn't get tossed out 5 mins into the game. artest relishes opportunities such as these. what a treat, indy and clev are in the same division- get to see these 2 face off 4 times

williamson prolly would eat the guy alive in the post. but james would destroy him off the dribble. but why would coach brown have corliss guard james anyway?

Thu Jun 26, 2003 11:08 pm

Well he better be, considering the Cavs are drafting him.
he better play well.
but Lebron will not dominate Big Dog or Raon artest or any other of those SF's madhooper mentioned(to the guy who said bron would get the best of em).

with starters minutes(only high school player besides Bill Russel and Amare Stoudamire to start i think) he will average about 13ppg 6rpg 3apg.

but will prolly be top 5 in all star voting even if hes averaging 2ppg.

he better not flop.

one person im hoping has a breakout year though is Jonathan Bender, and also Kwame Brown

Fri Jun 27, 2003 2:13 am

I agree as well, it's too early to tell. But I feel Lebron could have a break out season, & put up 18-21 Points per!

But then again I could be wrong, and anything can happen! Look at Vince Carter, if it wasn't for his dunking, no one would vote for him to the allstar game; and nobody's even talking about VC anymore. It's like he's been forgotten?

Fri Jun 27, 2003 3:07 am

lebron is very talented player in highschool ,but in nba-who knows.at the moment he is too overrated i think!
but he is good, very good basketball player!

Fri Jun 27, 2003 3:15 am

I hate answering these questions because staying healthy is a big factor. Certainly Kobe is on his way to making a run at being "the next MJ" but now that he had shoulder surgery, who knows how that is going to affect him. Vince Carter had a shot, but know his knee is messed up. T-mac might get there but will he get 6 rings?? I don't think so. MJ was pretty much healthy throughout his career and people forget that. Lerbon could be just one flagrant foul away from a significant injury. Giving him a 90 million dollar shoe deal certainly put a bullseye on his back that he did not need and it could spark jeolousy among the league. I would love to see Ron Artest welcome Lebron to the league, Ron has no fear (remember this is the same guy who broke MJ's ribs).

Fri Jun 27, 2003 5:01 am

like t-mac i dont expect much from james for a few years, yeah iam sure he will be on espn every night but as far as been an allstar i think that will take time, i dont even think he will be R.O.Y

Fri Jun 27, 2003 7:01 am

The frightening thing is...we haven't even seen the beginning of the Lebron James marketing saturation/blitz that's going to come.

Up until now there have been rules about his amateur status that have held back the floodgates. When he gets in the NBA I imagine there's going to be an assault of Sportscenter coverage, merchandise, and commercials hitting from all angles at once.

...

Fri Jun 27, 2003 10:00 am

I tink he will be a good player, but I highly doubt that he will reach the level of Kobe or T-mac, or AI. and VC when he was healthy.
I think Bron will always be a player that is noteworthy, but not Superstatus.

Fri Jun 27, 2003 2:07 pm

Let's see the guy play a dozen games first... Then people are gonna post here and tell he's better than MJ in his prime & stuff...

Fri Jun 27, 2003 3:56 pm

tales.... you said it all right there

Fri Jun 27, 2003 4:39 pm

I know the truth... but I'm not the truth like Billy Corgan... (N)

I personally think LeBron could surprise a few posters here...

Hint: as much as we see Kobe dickriders nowadays, we shall see LeBron's dickriders in one/two year(s)...

They have already arrived  Atleast some of the others are admiring players which have achieved something.

I think a little earlier, like before the draft, before the shoe deal, some of the NBA players wouldn't have been as harsh on Lebron James as they will now He was always going to get the average abuse a first rounder gets, but now he'll probably cop it more. He is probably the most hyped player prior to entering the league, probably the most in the history of the NBA. With MJ late in his career, people were careful not to hurt him etc. he means a lot to the league, has created a lot of exposure for the league, helped to reshape salaries etc. If he was going for a dunk defenders would just let it go in regular season meaningless games. I felt like this might be the case with Lebron James, because he is so hyped, even his enemies would let him go because even they would be intrigued by how far this rookie can go, how great he can become, why ruin it by clotheslining him Juwon Howard style?
But now, after the shoe deal, first pick, articles like the one above, and the fact that he has a big head and an entourage (like Iverson in the early days) I think, and kind of hope, that he gets a wake up call. The Cavs need a protector for him I think, a Charles Oakley type, maybe an Anthony Mason, someone willing to sacrifice themselves for this kid, willing to hit someone. I don't know if anyone would do that these days though...
