AUSSIES TAKE OVER ROOKIE GAME AS SOPHOMORES ROLL

By Bill Symonds
NLSC Insider

Updated: Feb. 17, 2006, 11.55 AM ET --

From start to finish, the Sophomore Stars showed their class as they cruised to a comfortable 124-116 win over the Rookie Stars. At no point were the Sophomore Stars, who were led by Rookie Game MVP Andrew Bogut, ever really challenged as they led by double figures at each intermission. Whilst it wasn't a highly competitive game, the NBA's young, rising stars put on a show for the fans who showed up. The game showed that there is an increase in depth inside, as Aussies Andrew Bogut (Sophomore Stars) & Will Sit (Rookie Stars) combined with Knicks' bigman Channing Frye (Sophomore Stars) to put on a show.

Image
He couldn't win the ROY Trophy so this will have to do for now for the Bucks' Andrew Bogut

Here's the boxscores from the game:

A few of the players looked a bit bewildered by all the attention, even Pacers' big Will Sit:

ImageImage
Rookie centre Will Sit (Indiana) wonders why he's even there, but the good kid that he is, he even takes time out to wave him to his overbearing mother

Let's take a look at a few highlights from tonight's game:

ImageImage
It didn't take Will Sit (Indiana) long to show everyone that he was not afraid as it took it at Bogut (Milwaukee) & whoever else stood in his way.

ImageImage
Things go from bad to worse for Andrew Bogut (Milwaukee). He knew that Brazilians love big butts, but he never realised that his would be a target (above left) from forward Tiago Splitter (Chicago). Offput by Splitter's actions, he gave up on the play & the Brazilian got an easy basket (above right).

ImageImage
Sophomore guard Rashard McCants (Minnesota) didn't play defense in college & he sure as hell doesn't play defense now, as rookie swingmen Vince Dehere (New Orleans-Oklahoma City) & Adam Morrison (LA Lakers), 2 of the deadliest snipers in the league, drill long bombs

ImageImage
Something is wrong here, it's layup city (above left) for rookie forward Rudy Gay (Toronto), meanwhile Walter "Honor-ism V2" Choi (LA Lakers) is the one throwing it down hard (above right). I guess what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas

ImageImage
Trying to prove a couple of points: Rookie Will Sit (Indiana) shows Andrew Bogut (Milwaukee) how a No. 1 Aussie plays with a brutal block (above left); meanwhile he seems to be auditioning for Phil, Kobe & the Lakers with this ridiculous denial (above right) of Andrew Bynum (LA Lakers)

ImageImage
As impressive as his splits are (above left), sophomore forward Marvin Williams (Atlanta) will have to to much more than that to surpass fellow sophomore guard Chris Paul (New Orleans-Oklahoma City), who used his speed, quickness & hustle (above right) to keep the rookies at bay

ImageImage
It was the Sophomores who had the last laugh as Channing Frye (New York) told Tiago Splitter (Chicago) that his back was to the wall & to get that shit out of there (above left). We can't forget to include Rookie Game MVP Andrew Bogut (Milwaukee) once again providing his best impression of Magilla Gorilla (above right)

Finally, we have just enough time to take a look at the play of the game:

Image
It didn't seem possible, but rookie guard Marty Gartner (Utah) threw it up high for 7'3" giant, Will Sit (Indiana), who somehow went up & got it. Not only did the fans go bananas, but so did Sit's mum

Tune in over the coming days I'll cover more festivities from All-Star Weekend in Las Vegas, and I know you won't want to miss that.

Haha, u had to put my mom in it?

Well after the game, despite not getting the MVP I told reporters, "I'd like to thank my momma, I'm gonna buy you a house mom! And a diamond ring!"

Then the girls will go crazy and think I'm rich and want my babies!

And damn right Bogut, I deserve a spot on the national team bitch! Kobe needs me bad btw

Cant wait for Allstar Saturday!

cheers, although Bogut actually started....you must have been confused by the stats pic....it's not a boxscore as ASW doesn't have them....

yes it was....don't forget Vince Dehere, he put up some nice numbers

cheers, although it's hard at times, I try not to think about the number of pages....I guess they seem to have flown by ever since I started my off-season....it always seems to take a season to get everything flowing....

glad to see someone notice Dehere :P making rookie team is no cakewalk, as Sit was the only 1 of 7 to make it this season....it ain't easy, that's for sure....

as for the Splitter CF, I just ported the Live '05 one across & gave some new .ebo files

STEPHEN JACKSON STAYS ON THE COURT & WINS SHOOTING TITLE

By 'Bill Symonds'
NLSC Insider

Updated: Feb. 17, 2006, 9.29 PM ET --

It was only a couple of seasons ago that Indiana Pacers' swingman Stephen Jackson landed himself in a heap of trouble by charging into the stands & assualting fans. Whilst the events on that dark day for the NBA will not be forgotten, tonight marked a new chapter in Jackson's wayward career as he won the 2007 3Pt Shootout Title. Jackson won in the final 27-18 over LA Clippers' guard Cuttino Mobley. Jackson used some of the best shooting that this contest has seen in over a decade as he scored 55 out of a possible 60 points, & only missed 3 out of 50 shots on the night. Jackson was in the zone, as the crowd quickly got behind the former Suns' 2nd Round pick that bounced around internationally (including the NBL) & in minor leagues before securing a spot with the San Antonio Spurs.

Image
Even though he won early, Stephen Jackson put on a show as he hit his final 18 shots in one of the strongest showings the contest has ever seen

Stephen Jackson used scores of 28 & 27 to top all competitors in each round to take the title. Cuttino Mobley's rounds of 23 & 18, whilst respectable, were blown out of the water on this night.

Image
Even though he won early, Stephen Jackson put on a show as he hit his final 18 shots in one of the strongest showings the contest has ever seen

Image
A strong finish couldn't overcome a slow start for Cuttino Mobley, as he was a gallant runner-up (loser) on the night

Other notable performances from the Shootout were Johnson's teammate, guard Salim Stoudamire, who narrowly missed out on the final with scores of 19 and 15. Stoudamire just couldn't find his rhythm throughout, but he could became a major force in this competition in the coming years.

The final scoreboard from each round were as follows:
Round 1
Final Round

The 1st Round went as follows:
Morris Peterson (Portland)
Jamal Crawford (New York)
Stephen Jackson (Indiana)
Baron Davis (Golden State)
Kareem Rush (Charlotte)
Troy Hudson (Minnesota)
Cuttino Mobley (LA Clippers)
Stephon Marbury (New York)

Tune in tomorrow as I recap one of the main attractions of All-Star Weekend, the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
