OAKLAND, CA (AP) – The Phoenix Suns went public with their own point guard signing, which raises the question of: why are all these teams signing these small point guards, and why now? The answer… duh! To Win! Anyways… Phoenix starting point guard personally welcomed Nithin Kadayil to the Suns organization Wednesday night. Kadayil is a 5’8’’ point/shooting guard out of Toronto, Canada. A very skilled artist, Kadayil was the brains of his team, designing superb plays and playing them out effectively. A skilled passer, Kadayil is also not afraid to get physical down low, and his defensive skills are not that bad either. With Nash’s mentoring him on offense, and his competent defense (unlike Nash’s), Kadayil should enjoy his time in Arizona, it’s certainly a big change from the cold bitterness of Canada.


Alex Buckley was announced a member of the Indiana Pacers by GM Larry Bird. Buckley hails from Hershey, Pennsylvania, but also has a passion for the Boston Celtics. Due to this, and his quickness and love for the Celtics, Bird decided it might be best for him to play under the watch-full eye of one of the best Celtics players there was. Buckley is a skinny little kid, and will really need to bulk up, or will risk serious injury from the likes of Shaq and Amare Stoudamire. He has a lot to learn, but it’s his willingness to learn and his fast rate of growth that made him such an attractive player to Bird. It’s too early to say whether this is a good move or not, but so far Bird is looking more smart than dumb.


Warriors GM Chris Mullin turned on the TV, and he saw on his huge 60 foot tall by 120 foot wide widescreen TV that the Boston Celtics have signed a youngster from Ontario, Canada by the name of Khalid Sleiman. GM Danny Ainge seemed extremely pleased with himself, though hasn’t he been with many of his other “brilliant” moves? Khalid was yet another extremely short point guard from the north. At only 5’3’’ he joins Mikki Dela Rea of the Warriors as the shortest players currently playing. But like Dela Rea, he makes up for his lack of height with blazing speed and quick hands. He once gathered 20 steals in one half, he could have got more, but the other refused to come out as they couldn’t even bring the ball past mid-court before Sleiman stole it. Sleiman will defiantly be put on the IR to work more on his strength and jumping, what the Celtics have now is a pure defensive-minded point guard that they need to add offensive skills to.


Only several minutes ago, the San Antoino Spurs announced the signing of yet another international player: Wayne Goh, out of Kuala Lumper, Malaysia. Wayne is the offspring of Chinese parents and has had a passion for basketball since he was born. At 6’2’’ he will play both guard positions for the Spurs and is a mastermind in defending and knowledge of basketball shoes. What makes him dangerous is that he’s a lefty, just like Ginobili, and that will mess with defender’s minds. Even more so Goh plays just as well with his right as he does with his left, which will allow him much more ability to confuse defenders and get to the paint. He will probably compete directly with Beno Udrih for the backup guard spot, but this is another great move by the Spurs to pick up a gem from the middle of nowhere.

OAKLAND, CA (AP) – After a commanding win against the Atlanta Hawks in the replacement players’ first preseason game they returned home in Oakland to host the Los Angeles Lakers. This was exceptionally exciting day for point guard William Sit as his idol is Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant. The Lakers’ Kwame Brown told press before the game that he needed to show something to the guys:

“This isn’t just any league, I can’t speak for the Hawks, but I can say they are not going to have such an easy time against us. We welcome them to the league, but we also need to show them that they can’t get over their heads after beating a bottom rate team. We may be a little weaker than during the Championship runs, but we’re still a huge force. This will be a good game, watch closely.”

Although as much as people would want to root for the Warriors, especially since they are playing at home, it was hard not to worry for them. Before the game coach Montgomery activated the injured reserve players Munoz, Robertson, and Rasamoelina to replace Cyriel Klitiste, Zac Mousoulis, and Mikk Dela Rea. This was probably just to show off to the public the players, but if Montgomery had wanted to win, he would have done smart to keep those players in the lineup.

The game however, was over before it started. Before the crowd could blink, the Lakers had a 12 – 0 lead. The Warriors seemed unable to even buy a bucket as shots clanked right and left off the rim, Ben Branch even missed a dunk. It wasn’t until halfway through the first quarter that center Andrew Watson tossing in a running jump shot to put his team on the scoreboard. After that score things got rolling along a little better, but obviously not as good as the Warriors would have hoped. Superstar Kobe Bryant took over the game and scored on 4 straight drives straight down the lane, which the Warriors could not stop, and the crowd already had begun to filter out of the arena, foreseeing a huge blowout. The buzzer couldn’t have come quick enough as the quarter ended with the Warriors down 12 – 30.

The second quarter showed promise as 6th man Jing Xu went on fire and hit a layup, then stole the inbounds pass, laid it up, and then stole it again from Smush Parker as he was bring the ball up the court and laid in another one. However again the Lakers turned to players like Brown and Bryant for the equalizer. Halfway through the second quarter Montgomery pulled all of his starters except for Branch, yelling at them that the bench players were outplaying them, and therefore they will continue to sit on the bench. The bench players Montgomery were talking about was Xu, forward Andreas Dahl, and guard/forward Mark Moore. The Warriors played almost on par with the Lakers as they were only outscored this quarter 20 – 19, and ended the half down 50 – 31. The player of the half was Lamar Odom for the Lakers and Xu for the Warriors.

At the beginning of the 3rd quarter the starters were inserted back into the starting lineup, but opened the quarter going 0 – 10 shooting and Montgomery pulled them as soon as he could. Branch was the lone bright spot for the Warriors the whole game as he more or less was the Warriors’ rebounding guy, grabbing 14 boards while putting in 12 points as the third quarter expired.
The fourth quarter the Warriors scored 20, matching the lowest amount the Lakers scored in a quarter and this was their best offensive quarter. They opened with spectacular alley-hoop dunks from Ben Branch and Mark Moore, but the play of the game came off Andreas Dahl’s one hand putback dunk on Xu’s miss. These plays got the Warriors fired up, but of course it was way too late and they couldn’t do much about the huge deficit. At the end of the game Lakers co-captain told analysis Bill Walton,

“Well, we came out to play and win. Just because we’re playing these guys don’t mean we can take it easy, we have to play just as hard. I give props to these guys, they gave it real heart out there, it’s not easy to come out and play against superstars like us. I’d like to give a shout to Will Sit man, you played pretty will man, keep working on it, I hope to see these guys improve a lot and man… look forward to seeing these guys again in the season.”

Bryant was also named the player of the game for scoring 40 points.

And at the Warriors press conference, which was surprisingly packed, the warriors answered questions.

Q: Coach, how did you feel about tonight’s game, it was a huge blowout, but what have you gained? Give us a basic summary of what is going on in your head right now.

Montgomery: Well… it’s tough to say. The Lakers are a great team with lots of history and pride, if they lost then their pride would be shattered and they couldn’t allow that. But you know, I am happy with what we had today because when we played the Hawks they didn’t seem into the game, and the guys got a false sense of the NBA. Now… this is the real NBA right here, now these players know what they have really gotten themselves into.

Q: Ben Branch, how do you judge your performance today? You were the lone player that was in double digits and was the high rebounder tonight, how do you feel?

Branch: Man, I am tired, like coach said, that Atlanta game wasn’t a game, felt more like practice. This is the match-up I’ve been itching to get. We got blown out sure, but this is good because now we know our weaknesses, which was rebounding and shooting, and we just got to train that over and over again. A double-double is nice, a win would have been nicer; I’d rather not have as much personal glory as I would like to have the whole team bask in the glory of winning.

Q: Coach, how would you react to the shooting? You guys shot 28 – 93 tonight, that’s a 30.1% shooting performance, including 4 – 27 for 14.8%. What could have caused this?

Montgomery: I don’t think the guys were used to such a tight defense like the Lakers. I give the Lakers a pat on the back for playing such lockdown defense on the guys, it was good. We just have to know when to take shots, we took some ill-advised ones, and we have to convert down low, we had many chances to lay the ball in, but it seemed like there was just a cover on it. I think its loss of concentration… I am thinking Yoga cause that would improve the player’s concentration and senses… That’s it! I am signing the team for Yoga lessons every night.

That was only an excerpt from the press conference. So the Warriors are now 1 – 1 on the season in terms of win and losses. They’ll get a good rest before they played another game, and they will need it to recover from the loss and work on they things they are missing.

Says on fan on the streets, “I always have faith in the Warriors no matter who they have on their team! I’ve been a season ticker holder for over 15 years and to tell you the truth, I think the team was in need of a makeover. GO WARRIORS!!!”
