The Phoenix Suns injury woes continue, this is their third major injury of the season. Kurt Thomas had just returned a few days ago but today, in a 4 point loss to the New Jersey Nets, Amare Stoudemire went up for the rebound and got tangled up with Cliff Robinson and Amare fell heavily on his foot and strained his achilles tendon. The Suns already have Leandrinho Barbosa out for another 8 weeks with a broken bone in his foot.

The first quarter was an even, high scoring battle as both teams didn't want to give up the lead. The second quarter saw the Pacers' big man Jermaine O'Neal step up his game, scoring 13 points that quarter to give the Pacers a 52-49 lead.
The Celtics took over the game in the second half, taking the lead in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. The Pacers did somehow get to within 2 points of the lead from great plays by Jermaine O'Neal and Ron Artest but the Celtics held strong with good defence and accurate free throws to take the game 112-106. Player of the game was Paul Pierce who scored 23 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished out 6 assists and stole the ball 3 times. Ricky Davis scored 24 points and Al Jefferson scored 14 points and grabbed 13 boards. Jermaine O'Neal had a monster game with 37 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists, Sarunas Jasikevicius scored 26 points.

The first half was just total, total dominance by the Los Angeles Clippers, outscoring the Pacers 63-43. Cuttino Mobley and Corey Maggette combined for 32 points in that half and were given at lot of rest in the second half.
The second half just saw the Pacers give up as both teams just cruised until the end of the game. The Pacers were just simply outplayed by the Clippers, nothing else really. Garbage time was given to the young guys and Scot Pollard to run out the game as the Clippers took this well deserved win, 109-82. Player of the game was Elton Brand with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, steals and blocks. Cuttino Mobley finished with 19 points and Corey Maggette finished with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Yaroslav Korolev scored 9 points off the bench

The Bucks did have a great Christmas day as the defeated the Golden State Warriors but Michael Redd had to suffer his second injury of the season, this time spraining his finger on his shooting hand while getting fouled by Troy Murphy. Michael Redd will have to miss 8 days of action but will probably be 100% recovered after this period.

Houston, Detroit and Miami continue to be in the power rankings top 3 with New Orleans and Orlando sticking on the bottom. The biggest movers were the Memphis Grizzlies who went on a 4 game winning streak starting against the Pacers. Philadelphia and Chicago also moved up significantly. The Biggest losers were the Atlanta Hawks, who started the season great but moved down 4 spots and not looking like they'll make the play-offs even. The LA Lakers were also big losers as Kobe's team has struggled as of late.

The first half was a very close battle but the Kings took charge, who were led by Peja Stojakovic's hot hand, who shot 7 from 8 including 4 from 5 from 3 point land to help his team have the small 62-59 lead. Stephen Jackson joined in the shooting fun, going 5 from 9 on the field including 2 from 4 from 3 point land.
The third quarter saw the Pacers make amends with a Jermaine O'Neal charged comeback to level the scores at 3 quarter time. Jermaine O'Neal scored 12 points and grabbed 4 rebounds that quarter to help his team go into the fourth quarter level with the Kings, 87-87. The fourth quarter saw Ron Artest go on an absolute scoring spree, scoring at will to help his team cross the line. The Pacers grabbed the lead early in the fourth quarter and just held onto it this time, making no errors except for Stephen Jackson, he fouled Mike Bibby to cut the lead to 2 and on a fast break, he took a three point shot for no reason and missed and the ball went out of bounds, he was subbed off straight away but the Pacers still won, 119-111. Player of the game was Jermaine O'Neal with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks. Ron Artest ended the game with 32 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists and steals. Stephen Jackson also added 23 points. Peja Stojakovic scored 33 points but was held down to 2 points in the final quarter. Brad Miller scored 20 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists.

Meh, I do not feel like doing the full month recap so I'll just give you the basics.
The Month that past and the month ahead
The Pacers went 8-4 for the month and are currently 5th in their conference and 3rd in their division.
The Pacers have 10 games to play in January, noteable games are against the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers, all at the end of the month. I expect the Pacers to win at least 4-6 of these games. More if Jermaine O'Neal keeps up his form.
MVP Candidates
Kobe Bryant is now looking like the MVP of this season as he's averaging 31.2ppg and leading his team to the play-offs. Andrei Kirilenko is continue his great defence and scoring form and his team are finally playing better. Iverson, Carter and Marbury round up the top 5 candidates, all from teams from the East around the middle and lower half of the standings. Players like Jermaine O'Neal, Dwayne Wade, Chauncey Billups, LeBron James should be up there instead of those 3 'ball hogs'
Players of the month
East Player of the month
East player of the month went to the Pacers' Center, Jermaine O'Neal. O'Neal has helped his team towards the elite group of the NBA against all the odds. He is the leading scorer, rebounder and blocker of the team and second leading assister. Stellar job this month by the star.
West player of the month
No surprise as Kobe Bryant, being the number 1 mvp candidate, is named player of the month in the Western conference. He improved each statistical category this month and hopefully his team will follow through with him.
East rookie of the month
Joey Graham can only improve, he has boosted up his scoring and has taken the early lead in the Rookie of the year campaign.
West Rookie of the month
Chris Paul decided to show the league why he was picked number 4, too bad his team will be in the lottery again.

Week 6 of the nba.com Power rankings have arrived.
The top 5 stayed put but the big movers were Memphis (from 9th to 6th) and Dallas (from 14th to 10th). They've been playing exceptionally well for the past few weeks and deserve their rankings. Denver and Philadelphia were the biggest losers as they've lost a few games but they're still in play-off contention.

Indianapolis, IN (Ticker) Shawn Marion had a stellar performance which earned him MVP of the game honours with 40 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals in the absence of Amare Stoudemire but that wasn't enough as the Pacers prevailed at home. The first half saw the Suns missing too many shots from everywhere as they only scored 1 from 11 3 pointers in the first half. The Pacers were playing good defence as well but also failed to capitalise on the Suns' faults. They only ended the half with a small 3 point lead.
The third quarter saw the Pacers take a stronghold on the match and as Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest and Jermaine O'Neal were playing like 10 people on the court as they charged to a 25 point lead but the Pacers got tired which let the Suns make a run towards the end of the quarter and only finished 12 points behind at the break. The Suns momentum continued in the fourth quarter but great defensive stops by the Pacers bigs prevented the Suns from taking the lead. The game went down towards the final minutes but the Pacers had a comfortable lead and the game finished with free throws. The Pacers won 103-97. Jermaine O'Neal scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ron Artest scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Stephen Jackson grabbed 8 rebounds as well as scoring 19 points off his on and Sarunas Jasikevicius scored 14 points and dished out 9 assists. Steve Nash scored 21 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out only 6 assists, Jimmy Jackson scored 13 off the bench.

Week 6 of the nba.com Power rankings have arrived.
The top 5 stayed put but the big movers were Memphis (from 9th to 6th) and Dallas (from 14th to 10th). They've been playing exceptionally well for the past few weeks and deserve their rankings. Denver and Philadelphia were the biggest losers as they've lost a few games but they're still in play-off contention.

Indianapolis, IN (Ticker) Shawn Marion had a stellar performance which earned him MVP of the game honours with 40 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals in the absence of Amare Stoudemire but that wasn't enough as the Pacers prevailed at home. The first half saw the Suns missing too many shots from everywhere as they only scored 1 from 11 3 pointers in the first half. The Pacers were playing good defence as well but also failed to capitalise on the Suns' faults. They only ended the half with a small 3 point lead.
The third quarter saw the Pacers take a stronghold on the match and as Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest and Jermaine O'Neal were playing like 10 people on the court as they charged to a 25 point lead but the Pacers got tired which let the Suns make a run towards the end of the quarter and only finished 12 points behind at the break. The Suns momentum continued in the fourth quarter but great defensive stops by the Pacers bigs prevented the Suns from taking the lead. The game went down towards the final minutes but the Pacers had a comfortable lead and the game finished with free throws. The Pacers won 103-97. Jermaine O'Neal scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Ron Artest scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Stephen Jackson grabbed 8 rebounds as well as scoring 19 points off his on and Sarunas Jasikevicius scored 14 points and dished out 9 assists. Steve Nash scored 21 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out only 6 assists, Jimmy Jackson scored 13 off the bench.

Oklahoma City, OK (Ticker) The Hornets 05-06 season struggles continue as they faced the mighty Pacers in a one-sided battle, but the first quarter didn't look onesided at all. The Hornets managed to come out firing in the first quarter, hitting impossible shots, grabbing rebounds, hustling and just playing passionately. They ended the quarter with a 29-28 lead. The Pacers decided to take over the game in the second quarter as the Hornets just failed to respond to the Pacers. The Pacers went on a 16-0 run to start off the quarter to take the 15 point lead but then the Pacers slowed down their game and ended up only 13 points ahead at half time.
The second half saw two players step up their game in their limited minutes, Chris Andersen and Fred Jones. Chris Andersen scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in around 11 minutes of second half action. He was just playing superbly, toobad the Hornets continued to slip. Fred Jones had the hot hand as he shot 3-4 three pointers in 6 minutes of second half play. The Hornets kept missing makeable shots, especially Chris Paul as he only score 1 from 16 attempts in the seonc half. The Pacers were playing slowly, just resting, trying not to get any injuries as they won the second half 44-33 and won the game 100-76. Player of the game was Jermaine O'Neal with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Ron Artest scored 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Drew Gooden had 10 points and 10 rebounds. For the Hornets, veteran PJ Brown scored 15 points, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Chris Paul went 4-27 from the field for 11 points and 6 assists.
