How good is Ryan Gomes?

Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:33 pm

Why isn't anyone talking about this guy? Ever since he became a started for the Celtics, he's been on fire! Last night he had 29 pts and 11 rebounds,& 27 pts, 9 rebs and 5 assists the game before that. It seems like he is consistently scoring 15 + and getting near 10 boards every night, and this guy is just a rookie... and a second round pick.

What's his future gonna be?

McDonalds' employee

LOL

Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:38 pm

whilst starting, hes averaged 13.8, 8.5 and 1.6

great stats for a rookie

Thu Mar 09, 2006 11:40 pm

great stats for a #50(??) draft pick

Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:00 am

yea..he's pretty solid player..and he can shot treys too..(Y)

Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:07 am

He needs to gain some better ballhandling skills and quickness to shed off that tweener label thats been plauguing him since he's entered the NBA. When he does that, I'm sure he'll be a very solid player.

Fringe starter/first big man off the bench. I'm very surprised with his development.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:07 am

yea Gomes was a steal in the draft, though. Some people had him going in the first round, and when nobody took him I think people forgot about him. He would've been a higher draft pick as well as if he played for Duke or UConn.

His rookie year he is doin real good, I looked at his points per game avg. and it skyrocketed these past two games.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 1:03 am

I can't believe he got drafted in the second round either, he was one of the nation's finest players at Providence.. :?

Fri Mar 10, 2006 2:45 am

let's not get overhyped too soon...it's just been a few games.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 3:26 am

Little known fact: The Celtics were considering drafting Gomes with their 16th pick, before Gerald Green dropped down.

His ceiling isn't very high, but he was one of the most NBA-ready players entering into the draft.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 6:50 am

Gomes is awsome. Right now hes playing like a 5 year vet. He puts the ball off the glass almost everytime so he doesnt get blocked. Hes averaging 14ppg 8.5rpg on like 63% fg and hes doing what Brady did for the Pats when Bledsoe went out w/ an injury. Hes stepped up big time for Jefferson.

I think his future will be good. I mean I cant really see him decline in a big amount, He hustles hits freethrows excellant, catches the ball good rebounds plays D and scores. I think in about 3-4 more years when Gerald Green plays more, Gomes, Jefferson, Perkins and West are all playing togeather in like 3-4 years then there going to make a big run for a championship.

Wow you're fucking stupid man.

He was a steal. This guy was an All Big-East player, and he can do everything right now. And who was that dude that said he needs to work on his ballhandling skill?

That's not true. That's not true at all. He's 6'10'', hes a PF/C, and he can dribble the ball just fine.

I mean, yeah sure, anyone can improve on that; But for his matter, he doesn't really need to at all.

I see this guy as an All-Star in the future. 2-3 years I say.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 7:14 am

You're like Indy, but for the Celtics.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:05 am

He needs to get less trnovers and commit less fouls

Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:16 am

Wow you're fucking stupid man.

Ehm, he was actually backing up what you were saying. He was saying that for a number 50 pick, those are great stats. Atleast that's what I garnered from the whole thing. No need to get your panties in such a bunch. :?

Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:19 am

he mite be an ok player, dont see him being any more then a role player

seriously this bullshit needs to stop. Half the NBA's teams can say that but do you know what......plenty of players will be gone in 3-4 yrs.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 8:58 am

Well, I'm pretty sure he'll be a solid PF, but nothing special like players at his position - Bosh, Okafor, Howard, etc.

Fri Mar 10, 2006 9:28 am

Here's a nice article about his recent success.

The 18th pick that is.

Gomes is a good surprise for me, I've always held him in rather high esteem, but never could I imagine that this is what he would produce given the chance.

Never mind what role he has in a few years, these last weeks he's been a great injection for the Celtics. And I hope that he can stay in green, acting like a great player off the bench. I still think that AlJeff should start ahead of him since I find Jeffs ceiling to be higher.

But maybe shutting down Wally because of his horrible knees the rest of the season and giving Gomes the chance to start at the 3?

Sat Mar 11, 2006 2:05 am

i think he can be a nice 14/8 guy, shoots over 50%... i doubt he will improve that much.. he doesn't have carlo's boozer's size and strength.. i don't know who to compare him to..

Big Al's got the potential to be an all-star, but i don't know if he'll get there..
