apparently...

the guy isnt even 25 yet, and is already putting up the best numbers for a center in the league! take account into the fact that he NEVER wanted to even play basketball for much of his childhood and hes doing pretty dam good

no one will be satisfied until he can get 27/13 on avg... and if that does happen, ppl will say why can't he block 4 shots a game, and when he does , he'll be critize for being too selfish and not racking up enuf assists, and even if he does that, he'll have to win championships b/c ppl will say hes not a winner...

man this is starting to sound like a kobe bryant thing,..

anywayz, yao is soft, and lacks energy and speed... i don't think he can be more than a ~24/12/2 guy at best

Why does he lack energy? Because he plays basketball all year long without ANY breaks. Most NBA players get the offseason to rest. Yao plays for China... dont tell me you wouldnt be tired if u played maybe 10 months of basketball for the last 3-4 years.

And I already said it: Yao may be soft... but that's how he plays. But it could be good... it means he can be mroe versatile than a lot of centers. He got a great shooting touch and a nifty hook shot. And I see him pull off that spin and dunk move a bit mroe these days than before. At least he's playing a little bit more physical. And if he keeps up this on offence, it means that his teammates will be a lot more open in the future! (Y)

Guys should be more realistic. If this is how he plays, than judge him on that, don't compare him to someone like Shaq. They are two different types of big men. And right now, Yao is one of the best Centers in the league. Especially recently. You gotta give that to him. If he averages 20 and 10, helps Tmac stay open on the perimeter and his teammates step up and the team wins.... I'd take that over 27/13.

The way he's been playing lately, he could easily be a 27/13 guy if he continues to improve at this rate (and stays consistant).

i doubt he can get to 27/13....that would require assertiveness constantly.

His defense sucks balls though, he's way too slow.

If he's guarding Steve Nash, then obviously. But he is one of the best inside post defenders in the leauge. He routinely holds opposing big men below their normal averages.

but he has poor S/R defense, slow rotations and we've already mentioned his average rebounding.

Lmao some of you are so bitchy, would of thought Yao is your family, he's a highly over-rated soft player and thats how it is, should of taken STAT. Only good things i can think about Yao is he has nice ball control at times and can occasionally knock down some shots from a bit out, and of course he blocks alot which is given as he's 7'6 and yes height is a very big factor in rebounding and blocking, basicly he should be averaging alot more boards simple as.
I'll be back for EASO 2007, feel the terror like its 05 again i own this game!!

I am defending him from ridiculous comments about him.. It is obvious you prob haven't really watch yao play...

If you watch Yao Ming play, he coughs up the ball WAY too much, and gets stripped down low and from double teams, if he actually had good ball control, he would be getting like another 2-3 dunks + 2-3 assists a game instead of losing it..

he blocks alot which is given as he's 7'6 and yes height is a very big factor in rebounding and blocking, basicly he should be averaging alot more boards simple as.

he doesn't block that many shots.. he either has horrible timing, lacks quickness to the ball and prob short wing span for his height.. prob all 3..

But he is one of the best inside post defenders in the leauge. He routinely holds opposing big men below their normal averages.

he does hold down opposing center quite well, maybe that has to do with the quality of centers, his 1 on 1 def is avg... no way i would say he is 1 of da best post defenders, depends on the definiton of that, i've seen TONS of disappointing plays where da opposing guards torture 1 of the rockets perimeter defenders and makes a basket off yao, i might be expecting too much, but just watching how Mourning, Shaq, Diop, Dampier's has their defensive presences off da ball downlow, i don't think Yao Ming is up to par in that area..

That's why the best rebounder and shot blocker in the NBA is 6'9, right?

Yao in last 8 games: 26.5 points 14.1 rebounds 1.6 assists 2 blocks 1.5 turnovers in 37 minutes shooting around 52%...

His PER has jumped from around 22.5 to 25 in these games...

He might actually be surpassing Shaq...

The whole team sounds like they are all surprised by Yao in the alst few games. Someone said, 'Big doubles doubles... wow' or somethnig like that. So longest streak of 20+ point games for yao right? Wonder if he will get through the rest of the season like this... after all, T-mac is dying on the bench right now.

I think T-Mac should take advantage of Yao's good performance and get some rest. Get his back healed. Then really make a run for the playoffs. They are 7-3 in their last 10, and a even better record since Yao returned.

wow wut a streak, i am guessing in 1 of da next 2-3 seasons, he will be avging 25/13 .. assuming this is a hot streak..

i mean he doens't really deserve the fame when he was barely doing 19/8 beginning of the season..

wow i'm surprised, he is actually playing well..

He is, dude.

he's a highly over-rated soft player

If he's so soft, why is he one of only four players averaging at least 20/10 right now?

he doesn't block that many shots.. he either has horrible timing, lacks quickness to the ball and prob short wing span for his height.. prob all 3..

How about: the refs don't give him respect.

If you watch Yao Ming play, he coughs up the ball WAY too much, and gets stripped down low and from double teams, if he actually had good ball control, he would be getting like another 2-3 dunks + 2-3 assists a game instead of losing it..

Maybe earlier in the season, but not now. He has averaged 1.2 turnovers in the past five games, FYI.

they said he was aggressive all game, i'll like to WATCH one of these games and see how hes doing.. his #'s are great tho...

Seriously, dude, that would be a great idea, because "It is obvious you prob haven't really watch yao play..."

That's got nothing to do with how soft he is/isn't.

Anyways he's playing great, it's about time.

For a big man, it's normal. Big men don't develop as fast as, say, guards.

wow yao is no doubt taking his game to anther level. If rockets make the playoffs I'm not sure if they going to be an easy push over with Yao playing like this.. could cause a first round upset
