Vin Baker to LA Clippers (unconfirmed)

I just read about this on RealGM.

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archi ... tar_baker/

Any thoughts on this from anybody?

If he's healthy and off the sauce, this could bolster their frontcourt for a good run at the playoffs.

Then again, thats a massive if.

Yeah, I'd still rather see Shawn Kemp at the moment. But it would be good for Baker to get somewhere and contribute, if only for 15 minutes a night. Plus the Wilcox deal means they could use a bit more upfront. Radmanovic is more of a perimeter player. Baker would only need to grab some rebounds when Elton's resting, and the Clips would be sweet.

I have nothing but contempt for Gin.

If he's cleaned up, he can be a reasonable pickup for the Clips though. But wouldn't you be a wee bit worried if you were GM that Dunleavy Sr. will walk in on him and Korolev throwing back vodka-shots at 4 in the morning?

Goddamn, stop spamming d_wade #3..

And no, Baker won't do anything positive for the Clippers, the Knicks thought it was worth giving him another chance and he blew, then the Rockets gave him one and he blew it, so yeah..

Baker was an alcoholic when he was with the celtics. That's why they got rid of him. The guy isn't gonna do anything..although that celtic year he had 75% from the field which was outstanding.

^^ well now you know.

And alexboom. I didn't see that somewhere. I live in Boston (well im in maryland for college) and I've been watching all of the games since I was 6 years old. I remember when he had like 72 field goal percentage. It was pretty beast.

Why don't they get Rodman and take a bit of Hollywood out of the Lakers.

I read a little blurb (this was maybe 5 months ago) about Vin Baker and why he's not playing, and he said his highest priority in life right now is his new restaurant and getting some good home cooking for himself & his family.

Sounds like someone you want on a playoff team.

This is a true surprise. There are some guys out there - spree, gugliotta, laettner, big dog glenn robinson, wes person, tim hardaway, kevin willis, lynch, weatherspoon, and Shawn Kemp who are out of the league but all seem a little better than Baker. Baker sucked in 04-05 at age 33, why would he better now? It's not like he's a lockeroom leader like willis either. Why not sign a D league guy and at least get upside? Or if you want a vet, doesn't Kemp have more potential if he can put it together this time? The clippers have an undistinguished bench, but Baker only hurts the credibility. Who knows, maybe he can play... but recent seasons doubt it.

I was surprised to see that. I figured he was done with his NBA career and I don't see why the Clippers would need to bring him in when they're already looking at the playoffs (you know, that still sounds strange). If he wants to make one last go at it, more power to him but I'm not predicting great things.

I don't see anything good out of this, the Clippers already have a great team and Baker isn't gonna help them. They got Brand, Radmanovic, Kaman, and Singleton as legitimate big men. Baker will just take up cap room and be a bad addition.

Baker probably looks like fat bastard by now.

There's no way with his prior attitude/alcohol problems will the Clippers take him.

He last played in the nba in 03, but he has talked about why won't the heat sign him and glen rice as recently as the beginning of this season. He's playing a minor league now, possibly the ABA, where he's an allstar for them.
