O'Neal will glitter

-- Michael Cunningham
Posted February 18 2006

At last season's All-Star game Heat center Shaquille O'Neal provided comic relief with his giant "shoe phone."

This time O'Neal plans to do it with "gold grills" in his mouth.

The Heat center was fitted in Miami for removable front teeth caps and plans to wear them during the All-Star game Sunday, sources said. Gold or platinum "grills" have been popularized as a fashion statement by some American hip-hop artists, particularly those in the South.

O'Neal's comic gimmick in 2005 was the shoe phone, a mobile phone embedded in the bottom of one of his size 22 shoes complete with an antenna protruding from the toe. He sent the phone to Diddy during the game and had the hip-hop mogul call him on the bench.

I wonder how much they cost as big as his mouth is

I went along with the shoe phone no problems but I don't care for this gimmick. I'm still waiting for Shaq to make good on his promise to launch five threes in an All-Star game.

He's about due for another one. His first and only successful three in the NBA came 10 years ago this season.

He should enter the 3pt shootout one day. Would be lots of entertainment for me.

He doesn't have enough creativity. His dunks are impressive but it takes more than power to win a dunk contest.

Shaq would probably win if he had Bynum to dunk over all the time.

Didnt Shaq do a 360 once in the allstar game?

Exactly. On the other hand, part of me does want to see Shaq in the three point contest. Just to see if he'd hit one out of 25 attempts.

I would say he hits about 3 of them. I'd hand him the trophy anyways just for participating.

It'd be better if he did the skills competition.. he'd have a better chance at winning.

If Shaq broke the backboard in a dunk contest he'd win it.

shaq's 3 point stats in the nba 1-20
shaq's 3 point stats in the all star games 0-2 (not included this year's all star game)
shaq's free throw percentage 53,3
note all of the stats are career

i think he would hit 1 shot in the 3 point contest

The NBA would be crazy if they don't put Shaq in some event. Imagine the ratings they would get and $$$

The RC one is also a DVD player. It was on TV before the game, he was racing it around Garnett's feet
