Tracy McGrady having personal crisis

Postby King James #23 on Sat Feb 18, 2006 3:32 pm

McGrady Affected By Undisclosed Personal Crisis
All-Star weekend has come to Houston during one of the worst times of Tracy McGrady's life.
The 26-year-old Rockets star, who'll play in his sixth All-Star game Sunday, won't divulge what's bothering him, but said his personal crisis is as trying as anything he's ever faced.

"I'm human, I'm going through some things in my life, things I've got to deal with, and I'm just trying to handle it the best way I can," McGrady said. "It's wearing and tearing at me. This weight has gotten heavy for me and it's taking a toll."

Even Houston coach Jeff Van Gundy is concerned, making a recent unscheduled visit to McGrady's house to talk to him about his issues. McGrady told Van Gundy he was considering taking some games off and disappearing from public life.
"I told my coach that's how I felt -- that I really felt like leaving and not tell people where I was going, just getting away for a few days and just clearing my mind," McGrady said. "I need peace of mind right now. It's all just piled up on me and broken me down."

McGrady has missed 13 games this season with back spasms and left another game in late December to see his fiancee, Clerenda Harris, give birth to their second child, a son.

But McGrady wouldn't say whether the issues were health-related or who they involve.
"I've dealt with family members passing away, best friends getting killed," McGrady said. "This is a lot worse than that because it's a combination of things in different areas.
"I'm in a tough stage of my life right now."

I wonder what's really wrong with him, thoughts?

Him and Chapelle should go on a road trip.

Anyways, I hope he can deal with whatever it is that's been bothering him.

There's a rumor that his newborn baby is sick.

I'm inclined to believe it, or perhaps his wife's health or someone else close to him. But when he says "I've dealt with family members passing away, best friends getting killed," McGrady said. "This is a lot worse than that because it's a combination of things in different areas", that would seem to point to his child.

Rather than speculate further on his misfortunes and sorrow, I'll just say I hope there's a happy ending to this difficult time for him.

Man what a rough year for McGrady.

I think some time off would be good for him, he's not 100% healthy yet anyway. And Ming needs to get back into it, how do you decline from your rookie year?

If there's one player you'll feel most sorry for, its mcgrady. His nba career is full of heartaches an disappointments like every year he experiences death in his family, losing playoff series, 21-61 season, carrying the team on his back. Its tough for this guy. Maybe this year he needs a time off, but he can't do it as his team is 0-13 w/o him. I just wish him the best and hope he recovers.

Yo man McGrady is my favorite player man i hate to see him like this.it would be a great thing if playing in houston for the all star game can lift his spirit.if hes having trouble just leave it at home and the locker room, just bring your game.

I'm not sure, he's not really scoring a great deal and if history is an example the more points T-Mac scores the less he cares about the teams success.

Either way, hopefully whatever is wrong is sorted, especially if it's related to someone close to him (baby, wife etc).

I do feel bad for a guy, he does need some time off. After coming from Orlando TO Houston I bet he was happy to play for a decent team that is above .500. But then with injuries houstoin is playing as well as Orlando played in the final year of T-Mac there.....sad Plus Yao is not trying too hard :( and he is in the all star game.... damn, all chinese voted for him :(, there are more diserving centers.

Well he said hes had expiereances were friends have died, and family have died. And this is much worse. Maybe its his newborn, or maybe his wife. But it sounds pretty serious to me. I hope everythings alright with him. I knew there was something wrong. The other night he shot 3-20. Hes shooting like 40% this year. Hopefully everythings ok with him.

As long as McGrady does what's best for himself and returns strong and triumphs from his pain, I will support his decision.

Well this is very sad. One of the few selfish players I admire from the NBA. Be is obviously having a hard time, so I think he should get a couple of days off, get away from his celebritie life, try to have a rest. Hope he'll go through this soon.

I bet he's a closet gay. He's been living on the DL and he's only married so people aren't suspicious.

thank you, that is so true. either way though, you gotta feel bad for a guy if his newbord son is having health problems or sumthin. I have another reason for Yao's stats goin down, remind me who he didn't play with in his rookie year...

I honestly don't think it's his child. If it were, why wouldn't he come out and tell us? Wouldn't you expect him to ask people for their prayers or something?
