Hughes Has Surgery, Out Another 8-10 Weeks
Press Release - 02/14 - 4:45 PM EST
Cavaliers Guard Larry Hughes underwent surgery on his right long finger this afternoon. The surgery was performed by Dr. Thomas Graham, Chief of the Curtis National Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Graham was assisted by Cavaliers head team physician Dr. Richard Parker. Additional fixation and bone grafting was performed to address his existing fracture. Hughes is now projected to be out for the next eight to ten weeks

so he's out until playoffs at least.

Tough break for Cleveland on paper, but they're doing alright at the moment so I wouldn't be surprised if they hold on.

This really sucks....I just really hope these injuries arent constant and that when he gets back, he will fit in fine.

well, they haven't played with him many games, and playoffs time isn't exactly perfect to adjust together.

No. Which makes it even worse. If a high school player, on JV, playing for FREE can make it through two seasons with a broken finger...

Someone being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS A YEAR can take a couple weeks off, tape it up, and get back in the game.

In theory I agree with you and there are players who will play through such injuries. But it does depend on the severity and nature of the injury. I mean, Michael Jordan broke his foot early in his sophomore season and that didn't hamper his game later on (and if it did, imagine what he would have been like had he not sustained that injury!) but Grant Hill's broken foot has resulted in five surgeries and much grief.

True... But an ankle is an ankle, and a finger is a finger.

You can tape two fingers together, and still shoot reasonably well... although it will hurt quite a bit (I know this from personal experience).

Case in point, he should be able to come back after the wound is closed (from surgery).

But hes gonna be a little bitch like that baseball player who sat out a couple of games because he had an ingrown hair.

Absolutely, but my point is that not all injuries to a certain area are alike. I agree that most players would play through a broken finger with some taping and put up with the pain, but depending on the break (and the fact there's millions of dollars invested in him) perhaps Hughes sitting out isn't so much a matter of him wimping out as doctors and the Cavaliers playing it really safe.

Or he could be wimping out. I'm just throwing out possibilities.

agree, u can screw ur finger forever if u played thru that, i am sure he will get used to it after a few weeks ( if he taped up his broken finger ) but u know cavs paid him wut? millions.. he wouldn't let hughes not fully recovered by playing thru it

also that is just a possibility, i can't see these guys not wantin to play ball.. but then, Artest wanted to quit ball for music.. soo , i dunno wut these guys r thinkin
