Who got snubbed most?

Postby zmac on Sat Feb 11, 2006 11:21 pm

I dont think this is any of the other threads so I will go ahead.

I just wanna hear who people think got snubbed most from the All Star game.

I will go first, with an easy answer...Carmelo Anthony.

Cambys been injured, Kenyons been injured, Nenes gone all year....but where are they on the standings? 1st in their division. All becoz of Melo.

Someone please tell me why he shouldnt be there?

Oh and he also got more votes than Marion and Brand.....and they are in there.

I still think they sould bring in a system of experts that choose, fans aren't the best idea to choose an All Star Team.

I disagree. The ASG is more of a fan event so let the fans choose who they want to see. The All-NBA Team is more prestigious anyway

I agree with Jason Kidd, and I only slightly agree with Carmelo. True, he has been on a scoring tear lately, but there's no way he deserves it over Marion or Brand. The forward spot in the West is very hard to compete for, but I can see Carmelo eventually getting a spot in a year or two.

The fans choose the starting lineups, which is a good system for sure. All-star weekend is geared toward making the fans happy, and what better way than to let them pick the starters?

And how can you get a better "system of experts" than all of the coaches of the NBA? They choose the reserves, and I think they know the players better than anyone else...

Arenas was th emost glaring omission but he's in now that O'Neal can't play, so it's fixed.

Other than that, Carmello Anthony and Chris Paul come to mind.

I think the reserves will always be a more respectable choice than the actual starters... that being said, if the coaches picked the entire time most of the starters would be starting anyway. With a few exceptions, i.e Yao Ming... and any injured players getting shit loads of votes wouldn't be happening.

In the West, Carmelo Anothony definately. Denver's the #3 seed in the West and he's their leader. How is he not on the team?

In the East, Jason Kidd. NJ's #3 seed in the East and J-Kidds a big reason why, including helping VC go off.

Michael Redd'd be another I'd add on if there was room.

Chris Paul's not a snub to me because he's a rookie and I never expected rookies to make it on the team in the first place.

Same here.

Though I've been disappointed with 1 or 2 picks on each side every year.

definitely carmelo. no way he shouldnt have made it.

on cp3 not making it. remember that lebron and melo didnt make it in in their rookie years, so why should he make it? however, cp3 will be in the all-star game next year without a doubt.

If Areans didnt get picked then definatley Arenas. But he did so whatever

I would say Carmelo. He got raped. In all honesty, why did TMac make it? Hes missed 13 games, he shoots like 40%, his team SUCKS. Same with Yao. They wont get trashed though because its in Houston. Melo shouldve replaced Ray Allen.

T-Mac and Yao made it cause they were voted in.

IMO Ray Allen shouldn't have made it either. I'd go with Melo over him.

Jason Kidd, NJ looks better than Miami this year. Heck, they look better than everyone in the East except Detroit, and they beat Detroit in their last matchup.

Crymelo Anthony has been crying to much about how AK got to go in 2004 and not him. But I kinda think that he should of made it over Allen. But AK or Memo have just as good of chance.

i fully agree that the fans should lose thier right to vote, i understand why the nba lets the fans do it, but its dumb imo. every year players make the starting lineup who dont belong there, sometimes they dont even belong in the game. oh well, i always enjoy the rookie game the most anyway lol

Allen is a G and Melo is a F, having said that, Melo is having a superior season and should be listed as a G/F

The forward position is too tightly contested in the Western Conference. I feel that Melo got snubbed and I would have given him the go ahead instead of KG.

With Paul, I would have picked him in front of Ray Ray.

Fan voting has its problems but we're not talking about ten undeserving starters year in and year out, we're usually talking about a couple of players here and there. Yes, the "popularity contest" does present some problems but historically the most popular players have also been the best as well.

Injuries are the main problem since a handful of games and a player's popularity override another star who's been healthy and playing well all season long in the minds of many fans. But those instances are still generally exceptions, not the rule. "Exciting" players also grab the nod above their equally great but less flashy counterparts from time to time but you don't see a Harold Miner get voted in and it's rare that a young player who's exciting to watch and looking like he could be a pretty good player but not there yet (say, Josh Smith) gets voted in. Kobe could be an example, but he'd already shown flashes and he justified his selection with his performance.

The fairest compromise would be to allow the fans to vote in five players they want to see - one centre, two forwards, two guards as it is now - and they'll make the game but it's up to the coaches to decide who starts. There'll still be snubs, but there'll always be snubs when you've got 24 spots and 30 teams some of which have more than one player worthy of playing in the game. At least that way the best of the best can be rewarded with the starting job. No doubt at least three of the players the fans voted in will be starters since their popularity is due to their abilities in the first place.
