Postby ultimateplaya on Wed Feb 08, 2006 4:18 pm

i think that ben is better cause he's has 2.24 BPG and shaq has 1.52 and plus ben's team is the best in the nba.

big ben right now, shaq's mobility is gone as it is clearly demonstrated by the move bynaum put on him lol. Hell even Alonzo is better than shaq on defense right now.. but when it comes to whos the better big man shaq wins it due to his offensive game

not sure who'd win a free throw contest between shaq and big ben, would be real close. Just keep away since bricks will be flying in every direction

I'd take Rasheed over Ben Wallace as he is a much better on the ball defender. But Shaq isn't the same player he once was, and as Amphatoast point out, Zo is a superior defender right now to Shaq.

Wallace is the more motivated defender and he also picks up a good amount of steals for a centre as well. But a younger, healthier Shaq was equally capable of being an intimidating force in the paint.

Even a middle careered shaq was a better defender.. think back to game 2 of the 2001 finals, what did he have, 8 blocks? crazy.

blocks dont make a good defender

look at darko for instance, his blocks usually come from his shit defence in the first place for letting his man get by so easy

this isnt a fair fight....Shaq can't defend the pick and roll, rotates late and barely moves for rebounds (prefering to use his arms)

Big Ben for sure, Shaq's getting to old but Shaq would of been better at his peek.

you smoke crack. Zo can't rebound like Ben, can't defend the pick & roll like Ben, doesn't have the quick hands like Ben to nab steals and doesn't rotate as well as Ben. He doesn't dominate the game on D like Ben does.

As of right now I would pick Ben because Shaq has slowed down a bit.

Did you see the game I'm refferring to? Shaq's precense stoped philly from even thinking of driving the lane. He was swatting everything weak.

Overall, Ben's probably the better defender, although its mainly because Shaq seems to have lost a step or two. Ben tends to try and block shots too often though.

He also doesn't have the small hands like Ben so that he blows dunks, and drops the ball. He doesn't rebound quite as well as Ben, but it's hard to rebound the ball when on most plays, he sends it in the other direction. Unlike most players, Zo keeps the ball in bounds after he makes the block, he's one of the best since Bill Russell... it almost always results in a fast break. There aren't many players whose defensive presence and intensity can put a team at an advantage without Shaq... but that's what Zo does.

Wow good contribution there Shep :lame:. Axel writes a somewhat decent post about Alonzo vs Ben Wallace, and you pick up one exageration and spam when replying to it. Speaking of exagerations, how's the prodigy known as Darko going this season? I guess it's still Larry Brown's fault we havent seen his awesome passing and outside shooting skills...

Ben is the better team defender. BUT since Ben is only 6'9 he has match-up problems. So shaq is the better man-to-man defender

I dont see Shaq picking up 1.57 Steals a game as well as being in the top 10 in blocks. I know stats dont tell the whole story but overall Ben has a better defensive game since his whole game is built around his defense.
Even though hes much older now, Shaq is still a presence just not as much as when he was younger.

Shaq isn't/wasn't a great defender. He's a big defensive presence. 2 different things

what do you call this post....has nothing to do with the topic. If you have such a problem with my "spam" then why not delete it or campaign to get it deleted instead of bitching about it.
