back on the topic though, i guess it is apparent that it's pretty much impossible to win a MVP award with a mediocre record. allen iverson has been brought up numerous times as an MVP candidate, but the year that he won the award. he was thirty games over .500 (oh how times change). i guess we won't see kobe win an actual MVP award until he manages to get his team 50+ wins.

Each is at least 30 games over .500, cept the Utah team in 99, which was a lockout season.

If you expand Utah's winning percentage over 82 games, they would've won 60 games that season.
