YAO MING sucks? Please read.

Postby adchu on Fri Nov 22, 2002 2:52 pm

Some months ago I discussed Yao Ming with some of you guys here. I forgot your name but you said Yao Ming is not good. Then I tell you wait and see. SEE? Here comes with 30 pts + 16 rebs.

By the way, EASports rated Yao Ming quite accurate.

I know he'll be a good player, I've seen him played in Asian Games (although china lost to korea in finals which beaten our National team by 1 point on a three points shot in the semis) and i'm impress with Mr. Yao the way he moves for a tall guy like him!

just as people should wait to see if Yao will be bust or a bad player... we should prolly use the same discretion before we say he's really really good. I mean give him some to play. he's played two good games after little to no progress for the earlier part of the season and already he's a potential all-star, and patchers should be rushing to make new "SUPER YAO" rosters. jk
he's yet to be tested... he played against the Dallas frontline... (which may be better, but they are no Oneal or Duncan, garnett, webber...) presumably against any of those players Yao would have been benched with foul trouble before he broke on any scoring run.

i actually am pretty sure Ming will be the most dominant player since Wilt and average about 35ppg, 20rpg, 5bpg and shoot something like 70% from the field. i'm not kidding, i really think he will be easily better than Shaq.

And youre not kidding? ....
<sigh>... ur entitled to your opinion, i guess but what makes you think he will be dominant like that? i havent seen him do much on the defensive side for him to parallel Wilt and Shaq... That is dominance.[/quote]

Yeah at 7-6 and 150 lbs yao will back Shaq down throw it down like a big fella should, he'll hang on the rim and then bump his chest against shaq, then shaq will just hang his head and lumber down court with his head down... then to cap it off the Rockets will win it all, MVP Rookie of the Year, Ming Yao will say in perfect english "you can now call me the big the big Confucius"

Oh and then a giant flying pig will swoop by and tell us all that hell has frozen over...

Yao!

All Yao Ming needs to be THE dominant center is a whole lot of upper-body strength work. His legs are like tree trunks, but he has the upper body of a pre-pubescent girl. If he can put on 30 pounds of solid upper-body mass, he will easily be able to challenge Shaq. And with Shaq dropping hints about having achieved everything he set out to achieve, he might be done in a couple years, leaving Yao as the ONLY dominant center in the league, when 35ppg, 15rpg, 5apg, 5blks and 70%+ FG% wouldn't be too unfathomable.

That said, this probably won't happen if he doesn't defect... China will have him spending all his free time in the offseason doing PR and playing for the national team.

YAO: TIME TO ESCAPE THE POWER OF THE DARK SIDE!! Let's offer him Instant US citizenship.

yoa ming is a great player... though i don't think he will stop shaq's strong post-up game except if foolish shaq tries to do his jump hook :P

haha, shawn bradley sucks. he's a giant toothpick with four limbs.

I only watched the highlights, so that might not be indicitive of how he played the whole game, but most of his points (at least the ones they showed) were just being the right pace at the right time. One time the driver lost the ball and it happened to fall right in Yao's lap when he's standing right in front of the basket. Another time, a different driver drew a defender and dumped it off to Yao standing right in front of the basket (noticing a pattern?). Anyone with decent coordination can have a high FG% when they get the ball wide open 2 feet from the basket. I only saw him create for himself once the whole highlight, in which he made about 7 baskets.

Now, if this is at all representitive of how he played last night, I'm certainly not as impressed as many of you are.

What else does he need to do but be in the right place (under the basket) at the right time (always). There will always be offensive boards, and who in the league besides Shaq and MAYBE Mutombo and Sabonis can stop him from inside? Shawn Bradley had the height last night, but not the quickness of Yao. Yao has the total package it seems. He's quick, huge, has a soft touch from inside, can get off the ground, and can shoot from beyond the arc. What more can you ask for? Either Barkley or Kenny Smith was saying last night that for the Rockets to win, Yao has to be the best player. I think if Stevie Franchise can learn to share the ball a bit more, we'll be seeing Stevie-to-Yao alley-oops for years to come... Possibly even come playoff time.
