I've seen the risk of injury offered as an excuse as well. Only one player has hurt themselves in the dunk contest - Tony Dumas in 1995 - and he was competing with a banged up knee at the time, all he did was aggravate a condition he already had.

I saw on TV that Smith said he has something special for the Dunk Contest. After watching the STeve Nash Charity game, I know AI2 has creativity, he did a sick windmill and other stuff, he also attempted a 'throw the ball into the air, bouce to self, behind the back dunk' but he missed btoh times when trying, but he was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO close to making the dunks. Robinson can jump, be has no creativity whatsoever, and is nothing like Spud Webb when it comes to being creative in teh dunk contest. Warrick, I dont even know.

I've seen Iguodala do an off-the-bounce behind the back dunk that is just bananas. He has creativity and is my pick to win.

Nate Robinson will probably surprise a lot of people. The guy is a hot-dog of the highest order, he obviously is going to try some crazy stuff.

Anyway...Lebron refused the dunk contest again but has entered the Skills Competition. What are the odds he gets booed?

I'm hoping either Warrick or Iggy win this. Warrick has amazing hops and @ 6'9 he runs really well so i expect some guard like dunks from him. Robinson should stay home.

I think this is a pretty decent field... I'm not really disappointed that LeBron and Wade aren't involved. They're both overrated dunkers, and I get the impression half of Wade's only look impressive because he inexplicably hits the ground everytime he comes down. David Lee might've been worth a shot, I think he beat James White in a dunk contest once.

Forgot to mention another downer (for me at least) in this year's contest - Kenny Smith judging. After the last time they let him judge, I was hoping it would in fact be the final time he was called upon for such a responsibility.

To me, Nate is an overrated dunker. I don't think he has enough air time or the height to pull off any major dunks like windmills, 360s and whatnot. Its impressive that at 5'9 he can dunk, but he probably can't do anything too special.

I dunno about you people..but id give it to nate if he can do anything close to a good tomma hawk...cause seeing a 5'8" guy throw it down is better than watching the crap we've been seeing over the years from guys a foot taller. Desmond mason and J-rich have provided the most entertainment in the dunk contest i've seen since t-mac vs. vince imo.

The three year rule isn't true. They used to have it like that (I think), but scrapped it because everyone though it sucked. They're trying to stick to the younger players though, to justify the Sprite Rising Stars name.
Examples of no such rule are Ricky Davis in 2004 and Chris Andersen in 2005 (no jokes about weed or the contest please).

Hakim Warrick should be wicked to see, he can jump so frigging high even out of stance. I remember this huge dunk last year at Syracuse when he jump out of the building and threw it down on a guy TOO hard.
Josh Smith is just there to defend, I'm curious to see if he can bring something new.
Iguodala should be nice, he's my pick to win it. I figure he's going to bring some creativity, maybe AI for a nice pass.
Nate Robinson is going to be a choker, he can't do anything really fancy as far as I know, people just like to see the little guy get up.

I think Nate'll do great and I don't like the Spudd Webb comparisons. Nate's a much better dunker IMO than Spudd and he seems like the type of person to me that'll have a lot of fun with it and work on a bunch of creative dunks beforehand. I think he'll definately be the inspirational pickI don't know if he'd win though. I don't know why you think he'd be a choker and I don't get why people think he has no creativity at all.

And I agree with Andrew, it's a shame they're only going with the 4-man contest.

true, one of his dunks in that highschool one was just a off the backboard slam, exactly like what vince and t-mac did in the allstar game.

I saw a replay of the contest on ESPN and they were hyping him to death like he's the greatest dunker ever.

He has very impressive leaping ability and I love watching him play and I love his in-game dunks, but his dunks in that HS slam dunk contest weren't all that impressive at all.

David Lee's much better than your average white guy dunker. He'd mop the floor with Chris Anderson. As already mentioned, he's won a dunk contest before. Not that that means a lot.
