It would be impossible for Kobe to average over 8 assists per game, so in conclusion, West > Kobe.

on the other hand, iverson has career averages of 27.8 ppg, 6.1 apg, 4.0 rpg. where does he rank in the list of all time great 2's? he has been consistenly great for almost a decade as well. i think iverson is in general seriously underrated, especially over the past couple of years.... in fact, maybe he should be getting as much or more mvp consideration then kobe. yes, kobe has had a good stretch and one amazing game, but by the logic of another thread here (tmac's 13 in 35 vs kobe's 82), consistency over a full season should be more valuable than a burst of great play.

i think it would be a crime for kobe to win mvp this year based on his record, if tmac didnt get it during his 32 year, and iverson didnt get it last year, kobe sure as hell doesnt deserve it this year. if wilt can average 50 and not win the mvp, then i think its reasonable to say that kobe doesnt deserve it with his record.

People don't really talk about West much, but West was a 1st team All-Defensive player 4 times, and 2nd team once. It looks small, but considering the award only started the last 6 years in his career and he got all those after the age of 30, he would've been a first teamer or second teamer about every other year of his career.

Jerry West is not the logo for no reason, he was a very good scorer, one of the most clutch players in NBA history, he was in the Jordan level of clutchness. He was a very good defender, vastly superior passer, and much better shooter [and that's with Kobe being a very good shooter]. His basketball IQ was also on another level in comparison, he was one of the smarters players to play the game.

Steals and blocks started being counted in his last season when he was 35 years old, and he averaged 2.6 steals and 0.7 blocks in 31.2 MPG, that's when his athleticism was fading, though only playing 31 games. Kobe is the better rebounder though [pace helped West there]. Since he was older his athleticism will be underatted, but he could almost get his elbow at the rim in college, he was quite quick and fast too. West was also a competitor, he was a guy that would battle on the floor, couldn't handle losing, and remember he won a finals MVP while on the losing team.

Stats dont say the whole thing. Even if West has better numbers that Kobe it doesn't mean he is/was better than Kobe. If that was the case then Oscar Robertson was better than Michael Jordan as a player which I truly doubt it.

How could you win the Finals MVP and losing the Finals? damn I forgot about that...congrats to West though.

I don't recall the bounty of stats I put up in my post, I think the only thing I mentioned were his steals and blocks at 35 to show how he was defending even at that age. While statistical defense is not good defense, he was doing it while playing good defense.

Oh come on guys. You can't even put Kobe and West in the same sentence. You can't compare West's tenacity, perfectionisim, and pure motivation to Kobe's somewhat lacking effort on the court. West purified the image of the NBA at that time, when the league needed it most, while Kobe has decimated it. How the hell can you compare West when he never talked trash, never competed selfishly and hell, how do you explain the famous John Havlicek quote after losing in the finals, "Jerry,I love you." What's Kobe's personality? Just search up "Kobe punches Miller" on Google, and you'll see. You see, Kobe even isn't better than West stastistically either. So i really can't see the argument between them.
