Blockbuster trades that could happen from NBASOURCE.COM
Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett, and Steve Francis will all probably end up staying in their respective uniforms, but just for the fun of it let’s ship these guys to new locations. Feedback is a must…
Philadelphia Trades: G Allen Iverson
Dallas Trades: G Devin Harris, GF Marquis Daniels, GF Jerry Stackhouse, & 1st Rd pick
Why Philly should do it:
Over the last few days, ESPN’s Chris Broussard has relentlessly pushed the Iverson-Webber strife across the World Wide Web.
It’s left us all wondering, what does this mean? Do these guys hate each other? Do they pour super glue in each other’s doo rags?
Cut the brake lines on each other’s Bentleys?
But more importantly, do they dislike each other enough that the team will have no choice but to finally trade Allen Iverson?
If so, what would be the requirements in a return package for the Philly guard? I say it’s two-fold, in 1) they’d have to get back some young players able to run with Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert and, 2) they must also gain a significant amount of cap relief for the near future. With this Dallas trade, both requirements are fulfilled.
Philly gets their backcourt of the future in Harris and Daniels, plus Stack’s contract comes off the books after next season. That means GM Billy King will have a significant amount of money to throw at a free agent come the summer of 2007. In my opinion, that young core plus cap relief in ’07 is worth the price of an aging Iverson.
Why Dallas should do it:
Why the hell not? They really don’t need Harris with Terry playing so well and Daniels is milking a new injury every other week.
Plus, in adding AI to a team that boasts a rather versatile big man in Dirk Nowitzki (rather than a guy with Wilford Brimley’s knees), there’s no reason to think the Mavs couldn’t outscore every team that comes their way.
But most importantly, if Mark Cuban doesn’t make a major deal such as this, I’d bet my own reproductive organ that Dallas would be sent home in the 1st or 2nd round (as usual).
They can win their 55-60 games in the regular season, but once the Playoffs roll around and the opposition starts double-teaming Dirk (think last year’s 1st round vs. Houston), down go the Mavericks.
Adding Iverson to the mix however, changes all of that. Opponents will no longer be able to double Dirk but instead will have to balance their focus on him and #3. If this is the case, there’s no reason to think that Dallas won’t be able to hang with the Spurs and Suns (and perhaps beat them).

Philly might as well trade Iverson... he's getting older and will soon be on the decline of his career... and they haven't done shit with him, putting around him horrible players.

Is it me or has every guy the Sixers bring in to be the 'second' option... never actually play that wel once they go to Philly?
I say the Sixers stick with AI and hope something comes up. Maybe tan kthe next season or something... cause I don't think Webber has much 'trade value.' AI's been loyal to them and I think all they can do is wait and maybe he will be rewarded for sticking round.

Iverson is going nowhere. I can see Francis going and no I can't see Garnett going even w/ all these rumours.
Speakin' of trade rumours, seems like Jalen Rose is on his way out of Toronto.

Who for though? I can only possibly see Marbury going but that would benefit Toronto more, but NY's already in salaray cap hell add Rose's 15+ Mill and theyre fucked even more. Plus Nate Robinson starting PG, i dont think so.

Wow you have such an inquisitive mind. Who has Philly brought in as the second option exactly? Stackhouse was already there when Iverson was drafted, so he didnt exactly "struggle" after he was brought in. Tim Thomas was always a chump. KVH and Glenn Robinson were overated and struggled during their entire careers, and webber has been playing well for most of this season. Philly's problem has been defensively and stopping penetration which is why salmons is starting now in place of Korver.

New York aren't exactly completely devoit of contracts to throw at Toronto for Rose. Could be Penny or anyone.

Its not really happening.. philly isnt looking to trade iverson to dallas. Its just some stupid writers fantasy becuase he cant write about anything legit..
Sat Jan 28, 2006 6:03 pm

title should be fantasy trade talks

That site is garbage. That trade honestly sucks, maybe Dallas throw in a 2nd rounder and Dallas get Shavlik Randolph and another minimum guy.
The Garnett trade is not possible anymore because ricky davis is on their team now.
The Francis one is some what decent but I don't think Magic will do it cos Damon's injured.

orlando trade isn't that bad, the celtics trade is just bullshiat, and the philly trade isn't half bad.... but i doubt orlando would want stoudamire.... and dallas would take ai while sending all that talent

Very low on the probability scale.
Philly would have to trade both AI & Webber to realistically rebuild, and Webber is hard to move since he makes $20M a year for 3 more years.
You also have to take into account the money aspect, as the NBA is essentially still an entertainment business. AI is one of the best money generators in the NBA bar none. In terms of nationally televised games and merchandising, this guy is a gold mine. His popularity is unrivaled. How many commercials do we see for the "Kobe versus Marquis Daniels Showdown, this Sunday"?
AI will probably stay in Philly til he's done, but if AI wanted to leave to get a chance for a ring (and he really doesn't seem to be that kind of guy IMHO, but for sake of argument) Philly would need higher caliber youngsters. At least in the Carmelo range.

Iverson will never leave Philly.

U never know. Shaq left Lakers, everybody thought he'll stay there for the rest of his career!

Shaq wanted to go to another team. Iverson doesn't.

He already had that incident earlier where he walked off the court in anger because the team lost. I wouldn't be so certain.

Hell no AI aint going nowhere. he hasnt showed any signs of age still scoring over 30 PPG. its gonna be at least another 5 years until his scoring average drops under 25 a game and considers retirement.
Sun Jan 29, 2006 9:15 am
It's incredible how at 30 years old and at 6 feet, he's putting up 33 ppg, but I'd say age and injuries will catch up to him very soon.
Sun Jan 29, 2006 12:48 pm
probably too soon....

This is on-topic:
I hate how every time a team goes into a 2-game losing streak, all the freaking sportwriters start making stupid trade rumours and shit. "OMG, a source told me that (insert superstar) hates the ball boy. They should trade him"
