Why Tracy McGrady's better than Kobe

Postby kevC on Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:07 pm

Besides being statistically superior over his career... (if you want to argue this look at the 40,000 different threads about it in the interweb and consult http://www.basketball-reference.com/labs/apbr.html)

Today, after a 41 point performance against the Pistons, he passed up a potential game-winning shot to Luther Head who was wide open and had just hit a 3 to cut a 4 pt lead to 1. Head, unfortunately missed the 3 pointer and the Rockets lost 99-97. Tracy McGrady proceeded to go to the rookie, embraced him, and told him that "It's okay" and went to the locker room smiling and encouraging Head. What would Kobe do?

One way or another, tie the game up by himself. 60 - 70% of the time.

And unless McGrady gets at least a ring, he is under no circumstances a better player than Bryant.

If your question is 'who is the better person', maybe you are correct, but that is not the issue here.

My question is "better" in everything. Basketball, baseball, football, field hockey, sex (okay, Kobe's probably better at that), and life in general.

And I meant, what would Kobe do when he passed up his game winning shot to a rookie and he misses?

hm... kobe does not look good in yellow. he should get traded back to the team that originally drafted him just for the heck of it.

as for on topic... you cant detemine who better by one play... sadly kobe has 3 rings whereas tmac has none. and therefore as of now kobe is better.

if the rockets however get both yao and tmac healthy and have their supporting cast able to do something, then they are better as a team.

No, actually read it and comprehend it before you say anything. His reaction towards the rookie's miss and his encouragement was what really won my respect.

so he's better because he consoled head after he missed the game winner? ah ok. really, i don't see how that makes him better. just makes him a nice teammate that's all.

If you read, you'd understand I didn't mean necessarily as a basketball player.

I read it, and I understand it. I agree with you in the fact that T-Mac is a better team player. Kobe might be dominating games, but really are the other players on the Lakers going to develop in clutch situations? Are they really benefitting from just handing Kobe the ball and watching? (which is really what i saw in tonights game)

I don't think they are, and when Kobe either a.) gets injured, or b.) has an off night, they will struggle horribly.. because right now they all get open shots and still struggle to perform at all.

I think Kobe is the better player, but in the long run, I think better team play will win out.

wow kevC, better in what sense? all I see is the word better, so seeing how we're in NBA Talk, would it be ridiculous for me to jump to conclusions about how you might be alluding he might be a better basketball player? i mean really, you only used "better" -- better in what sense? could you be more vague?

Read the thread! I'm being fecitious anyways... The point is that not only is T-Mac a better basketball player over his career, but he's also a better leader as seen by his actions.
