T-Mac Retiring anytime soon?

Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:41 pm

I was just wonder, does anyone know if TMacs going to retire because of his back? Maybe at the end of this contract?

Mon Jan 23, 2006 12:43 pm

The mans 26, and he's gonna have a nice loooong offseason this year to heal so I doubt he'll retire anytime soon.

Can we please merge all the McGrady topics into one massive Tracy McGrady thread?

Are you stupid?

Why would he retire, he makes 16 million and when he's contract runs out, he'll make at least another 10+ million regardless of his back, it's not even that bad, he can still play through it.

He should wait till his back is fully healed until he plays. And ofcourse he isn't going to retire soon, way too early, he will probably when he is 30 or 32.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:07 pm

I think 30 is too early for him to retire, maybe 34+

Mon Jan 23, 2006 1:44 pm

It's WAY to early for you to think about him retiring.

That's like asking, is Kobe going to retire anytime soon?

One injury doesn't mean a player should be retiring.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:05 pm

As Grant Hill proved , you do not always need to retire because of your injury bugs. Especially when your less then 30 . Grant Hill was older then T-mac when he got his injury problems , and hes still playing . Bottom line is , T-mac won't retire unless he winds up getting paralyzed.

He has hinted that he wants to try his hands on baseball...

What the hell is he smoking?

Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:51 pm

Another 10 years at least for him.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 2:53 pm

10 years i'd say or at least 7 or 8 for both tmac and kobe

i wanna see dikembo play for anotehr 10 years

Mon Jan 23, 2006 3:13 pm

Well Shaq said he'd retire @ 32....that date is long gone and he's still around.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 3:15 pm

And he's got a 5 year contract or something

Mon Jan 23, 2006 4:20 pm

I think tmac will only retire if he has already won a playoff series. After that he might play baseball coz its his first love in regards to sports.

I dont think 1 playoff series would quench his thirst.

I must admit, I'm not a doctor and I don't pretend to be an expert on sports medicine or much else medical for that matter. But I'm guessing if his back was really that bad that it was forcing him into retirement, he wouldn't be playing at the level he's at...I doubt he'd be even playing at all right now.

Consider the back injury Pippen suffered in 1998 and the tail end of Larry Bird's career. No doubt McGrady suffers from his ailing back and it affects his game and he's missed a notable amount of games because of it, but he seems to be going along a little too well at the moment to suggest he's close to retiring. Of course as I said that's speculation based on past history and no background in medicine, but generally speaking players with injuries that severe are really hampered by them.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 6:50 pm

Plus, Pippen was older and in the twilight of his career anyway.

McGrady's in his prime.

True. But as with Larry Legend, the injury accelerated his decline from the top of the league.

Mon Jan 23, 2006 7:09 pm

sure he is not one of the elite players right now but if he healed properly and came back full strength next year, who would want to face him

Mon Jan 23, 2006 10:35 pm

as if he will retire!

Tue Jan 24, 2006 4:43 am
