If any team tanked that year to cash in on the Duncan Sweepstakes it was Boston, though that's still only cynical speculation and in case, they lost out

They got Billups though!!!!!

one of the problems with this idea IF, that's a big and quetionable if, is that a lot of the role players on the team are getting really old. Wesley, Mutombo, Barry...ect.
They might get a good player in the draft, but there is no way a young rookie can make up for the experiences these guys bring.

Well, obviously, now he's now. Some teams like to look ahead at what players might be. Obviously the Celtics didn't.

That's rubbish. You can't always predict how a guy's going to end up. Look at how many teams passed up on Ben Wallace or Gilbert Arenas. These things happen. Would you rather every team just kept any scrubs that walk through the door just incase they turn into another Billups or something.

He didn't suck that much. I mean, he was a rookie. Of course each of them has a trouble of adjusting to NBA game. You just don't trade a rookie in a middle of the season when you don't know what you have.

Well considering his career pretty much declined after that, I think they made a good decision at the time. It's not until he ended up in Detroit, 5 or 6 years into his career that he flourished.

he didn't suck, he played solid. Nevertheless Rick Pitino traded away his "dream backcourt" as he said pretty quickly (Billups & Mercer)

Play. His numbers weren't too shabby either. 11.ppg 4.3apg in 25mins.

Boston was just a shitty franchise @that point. Who trades away their 3rd pick 50 or so games into the season....for Kenny Anderson?

He was a good player since he was drafted, except any system he was in licked balls. Until he got to refine his game in Minnesota under Flip.
