Pierce Thinking Of A Trade

Postby air gordon on Wed Jan 11, 2006 4:18 pm

from realGM wiretap
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/38631/20060110/pierce_thinking_of_a_trade/
some highlights from the link:
“It’s something I’d give a lot of thought to,” Pierce said before scoring 32 points in last night’s 104-102 Celtics’ loss

Statistically, Pierce is having his best season.

“But I’d rather have a season like this when we’re winning,” he said.

“A career is defined by winning games and championships.”
Pierce, 28, and in his eighth season, said he feels he’s running out of time.
“I’m not getting any younger,” Pierce said. “(A trade) is something I’d give a lot of thought to.”

Pierce said he might lobby for a trade himself or it could be instigated by Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

let the rumors begin

Celtic fans will probably want the world for Pierce and I don't blame them. Pierce is a stud and has plenty of good years left in him

I think the Bulls could have a shot ONLY IF Pierce becomes unhappy and demands a trade. They may have the means to get a deal done: a huge expiring contract in Tim Thomas (14mil), 2 first round draft picks, and some decent, young talent

my guess is that any team trading for Pierce will have to take on some baggage- namely Lafrentz and/or Blount's crappy contract.

I can understant why Pierce wants to be traded.. he's having a career year but the team's success doesn't reflect it... I think he wants out of the "young" movement by the Celtics.

Waits for Indy to tell us it's going to be Ron Artest for Pierce. He's always really wanted Pierce.

Just playing dude. :P

Wow, finally Pierce wants a trade... with all the shitty teams in Boston over the years, I'm surprised he didnt ask for one earlier.

It amazed me that 3 posts went by without anyone mentioning that possibility. I could see a Ron/Stephen Jackson for Paul Pierce trade. I have mixed feelings about that one....

Don't think I'd do it.

i don't think i'd do it. adding a notorious scorer on your team doesn't automatically make them better. pierce also isn't the defender that he was back in 2001-2003, so i'd keep s. jax ( i hate that name too ) and artest. that would be a great deal for boston though, depending on how well the likes of al jefferson, tony allen and gerald green develop. if the trade were to take place today though, they'd probably end up being like the hawks -- shitloads of talent, no chemistry.

The main reason I wouldn't do it is because Paul is Ron's bitch. Period. Paul Pierce, is owned by Ron Artest. It was great being on the right side of that ownage, but if Ron were a Celtic, and Paul were a Pacer, I feel like I'd be a fan of a pussy ass team.

Yeah in 2003 Ron Artest totally owned Pierce . Paul Pierce is one of the most physical two guards in the league. I've seen him bang with KG when KG tried to guard him. Kobe is probably the only other 2 guard with the same kind of mindset.

Ron Artest of 2003 is a different player then Ron Artest now. Look what Ron did to him in 04? He made him look like a cocky chump not even good enough to be a number 3 option.

You have to be kidding. Look at that 04 team, Mark Blount was the Celtics second option. Mark Blount! The Pacers whole team defense just keyed in on Pierce and collapsed on him as soon as he put the ball on the floor. Theres nothing Kobe, Tmac, Iverson or even your beloved Stephen Jackson () could have done in that situation. The mere fact that the Celtics got to the playoffs that year with that roster shows exactly how good Paul Pierce is.

Its pretty obvious from the tone of the first article that he didn't want to be traded. I'd hate to see Paul Pierce in another jersey, that is unless it is a Raptors jersey and we don't give up too much for him. :P

heh i know links from Real GM shouldn't be taken as gospel. Though it is the first time I've read Pierce quoted as saying he's given a lot of thought of seeking a trade.

Go figure, an article of Pierce basically retracting his statment hehe comes out the following day

This was also mentioned in ESPN Insider reports, so does that mean ESPN links shouldn't be taken as gospel? Naw, rumors are rumors, it can either come true, or false.

Ron Artest (if he's on the right frame of mind) could defend anyone, even Kobe, T-Mac, or AI and make them look like cocky chumps.

Artest couldnt guard Iverson! Lol.. Artest is a very good on the ball defender, the best in the league, but great offense always beats great defense in basketball. The only real exception is team defense when it collapses.

Sorry, can't shut down Pierce, Kobe, T-Mac or AI w/o team defense. No 1 player can do the job.

You should burn in hell for saying something as stupid as that. :x Bosh is untouchable for the Raptors, and he isn't going anywhere.
