I'm rooting for Suns vs. Nets.
I don't want another boring NBA Finals.

I guess you could call Bob's buzzer beating 3 at game 5 the culmination of a boring series...

Well some people have this notion that any NBA team that doesn't go mad and score over 100 points a lot is "boring". I heard multiple criticisms from offensive-obsessed NBA fanatics who insulted the Spurs - Pistons basketball matchup as boring simply because it was a matchup between 2 defensive teams. All I can say to you offensive-minded fools is this : you aren't true NBA fans. True NBA fans are interested in any final , not just finals which involved the 2 highest-scoring teams in the league and over 200 total points scored in a game. Watching defense isn't as bad as you think

You call going to a game 7 in the finals boring? You need some help.

that's the beauty of it...7 games is what i seek for in EVERY series.

honsetly, i hate basketball that's just up and down up and down. It's boring, looks like a practice drill. I need my share of offensive sets mixed with some fastbreaks points off good defense.
Would anyone even like the fastbreak game if players weren't allowed to dunk?

too bad almost doesn't count

Why would players not be allowed to dunk??

I watch the NBA Finals regardless of what match-up is, but yeah, I'd prefer a more scoring-oriented game.

i'm saying hypothetically.

While I agree that defense needn't be boring and a fierce competitive game isn't either, I disagree with the suggestion that they aren't true fans if that's the kind of basketball they enjoy. Basketball is a sport with so many styles of play and everyone has their own ideals about what is best to watch.
There are some "chess matches" that aren't great to watch, not because it's great defense but it's grind-it-out because both teams are performing horrendously offensively. Those shouldn't be confused with truly impressive defensive games.
As far as last year's Finals are concerned, Game 5 really saved the series for me. Since I don't have a strong like or dislike for either the Spurs or the Pistons I wanted to see a battle all the way. The blowouts in the first four games were very anticlimactic for someone who isn't a fan of either team.

It's not that. It's just that most of the teens of nowadays expect to see an And1 mix tape whenever they catch an ACTUAL basketball game. If that was the case, all the teams should be affiliated to the Harlem Globetrotters somehow and get it over with...
Personally, I prefer a closely contested game, whether the point total is in the 200s or in the 140s... To me , the excitement and agony are still there in both occasions, deriving for my love of the sport. I don't have to be a supporter of one of teh teams, but I always get to pick a side before the match begins and stick with it till the end. That makes it all th emore worthwhile.

Agreed there, I'm not a huge fan of streetball. I'm more impressed by fancy or amazing moves that come within the flow of the game and don't violate any of the basic rules of basketball.

Andrew obviously you don't know how "basketball should be played" (referring to those stupid And1 commercials)
Tue Jan 10, 2006 8:18 pm
I guess not. They're probably right though. Ignoring travelling and double dribbling rules and throwing the ball into the stands then getting a lob back is the real way to play basketball. Who needs rules? They just hold back the endorsements.
