who is the better conditioned athlete - rip or kirilenko?

Wed Jan 04, 2006 2:45 pm

i know we can't use anything empirical to support our opinion(s) seeing how we're not the trainers of these athletes, but based on what you've seen or know, who do you think is the better conditioned athlete between these two basketball players -- richard hamilton or andrei kirilenko?

this just got me thinking after watching the jazz/lakers game tonight where kirilenko delivered a ridiculous stat line -- 14 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 7 blocks, 6 steals. he was literally all over the court. would it be harder to chase people around all night, playing the passing lanes, contesting shots, just playing defense in general or running around all game looking for an open shot?

14 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists, 7 blocks, 6 steals.

I'd say AK47, that is a great statline

Better conditioned? I guess I'd say Rip since Kirilenko seems to get injured every 5th game.

SO true.

Likewise, i'll say RIP. A part of conditioning is staying away from injury, which RIP has (minus 3 broken noses)

Rip. Regardless of the stats, I would say he is obviously less injury prone are he does more mileage per game than AK. All that running through the screens tires people up, but not Hamilton.

Rip for the same reasons as everybody else

Wed Jan 04, 2006 7:51 pm

that Kirilenko stat line though is ABSOLUTELY INSANE.

Thats true, and besides, broken noses you can't really prevent through training. I have a feeling Rip could run a marathon with the best of them.

He actually was a long distance runner before becoming a full-time basketball player.

Rip hands down

Wed Jan 04, 2006 10:31 pm

definately rip, anyone else see that TNT interview they had on nba.com a while back? he runs a few miles a day, as well as all the other stuff

that said, AK is fucking crazy, nearly QUINTUPLE DOUBLE!!!

Thu Jan 05, 2006 2:28 am

AK gets injured a lot, where as Rip is basically a motor engine running all game long for almost an entire season.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:13 am

Rip. AK47 has been way too injury prone.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 7:05 am

AK was so closed of accomplishing a quad double. I think the last player was David Robinson.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 7:38 am

hm.. wow.. i am speechless at that statline.. insane

but i would have to say rip.. cause he is just fuckin crazy, though HUGE props or AK47

That is correct. And he was closer to QUINTUPLE DOUBLE, if you can believa that.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 10:40 am

techinically he was closer to a quadruple double... but he was also close to a quintuple

True. Remove the 'r' from closer, then. Still an amazing feat, and I do think that he is teh only active NBA player who can someday pull it through. And teh next day he'll be injured.

Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:07 am

Ofcurse RIP.

Not sure if its just me, but doesn't it seem like RIP runs a lot more than AK47?

Thu Jan 05, 2006 11:31 am

AK was so closed of accomplishing a quad double. I think the last player was David Robinson.

Duncan was 2 blocks shy of completing the 4 x 2 vs NJ.

Hamilton is the more conditioned athlete.

But I honestly think Kirilenko can defend Hamilton and chase him around the court. Even if Hamilton manages to get around him Kirilenko gets a lot of his blocks by sometimes even letting his guy run buy and then blocking the shot.

But then again I may be a little biased, Kirilenko is one of my favorite players, and nothing against Hamilton.

That statline is good but you dont get that kind of production from him everyday. I f he got that everyday then I would be telling a whole different story.

AK gets a 5x4 almost every game dude he should be in the all-star game.
