The 3 Nets. The Ntes are rolling and if they finish as one of the top teams in the East, one of them should be considered for the MVP.
If one of the Nets are chosen, I wouldn't be suprised if it was Carter. Jason Kidd's numbers are great for someone his age, but his numbers can't compare with other players that are on that list.
Jefferson is pretty much the do-it-all type of guy for the team, but he hasn't been carrying the team offensively for the past few games.

As a matter of fact, they have 18 wins, 10 losses
And yeh my list is basically the same as everyone else.
1. Billups.
2. LeBron.
3. Brand.
4. Nash.
I was talking about the Clippers with the record, not the Cavs

MICHAEL REDD ( i m surprised that you guys are not even mentoining his name)
You are right Redd has a chance playing the best he ever has and is leading the bucks quite well but then again he isn't producing good enough stats to win it.

Just wondering why does everyone go with Billups?? But anyways heres mine:
LeBron
Kobe
Wade
Iverson
Arenas

Maybe because the Pistons are 25 & 4 and the fact that Billups is averaging 19.0 points, almost 8.5 assists & 3.10 rebounds?
Maybe.

I'm not sure why everyone is going with Billups either. Billups is 4th in assists per 48 minutes, behind Nash, Baron Davis, and Brevin Knight. He's not even leading his own position in the most crucial category for PG's. And he's 34th in ppg. That's good, but 34th in scoring isn't even all-star caliber.
Chauncey is also 129th in steals if you're going to say his defense is what should get him there. Baron Davis is 5th in steals, and Brevin Knight is 2nd. I wouldn't even give Chauncey Billups the most valuable point guard, let alone put him above players like Lebron, Kobe, Wade and Arenas.
Actually, the more I look into things, the more I think Brevin Knight should win the MIP award this year... not only that, he's averaging more assists than Chauncey and he's playing on the expansion Bobcats.

The team record will be quite important & Billups is probably the second most important player on the Pistons.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:34 pm
Team record should have nothing to do with it at all.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:40 pm
But it does.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 12:51 pm
It sure does. It's one of the difference why Jason Kidd wasn't MVP when he moved to the Nets, and Steve Nash was one.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:00 pm
I bet Billups won't even be an All Star.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:11 pm
Yea I guess Billups is playing really good. But I wouldnt say MVP like. Thats just my opinion
Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:19 pm
Then the NBA sucks at delivering their MVP awards. If MVP were determined based on team performance, the New York Yankees would have the MVP every single year.
We're talking about the most valuable player in the perspective of the entire league, not from the Detriot Pistons' perspective.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:27 pm
Ron Artest.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 1:38 pm
Randolph as an All-Star won't even happen. Him as the MVP is a joke.
Fuck You
Tue Jan 03, 2006 2:11 pm
Billups, Iverson, Brand
I guarantee one of those 3^

So if a guy just padded his stats by taking all the shots and dominating the ball on a horrible team he should be rewarded with the MVP? Please, get out of here man.

Actually, the more I look into things, the more I think Brevin Knight should win the MIP award this year... not only that, he's averaging more assists than Chauncey and he's playing on the expansion Bobcats.
1) Chauncey Billups' team plays a slower pace than all of those teams. Phoenix is #1 in FGA, Charlotte #2, and GS #5. Detroit is #12. The more shots your team is taking, the more chances for an assist. If the Pistons were taking 7 more shots a game, Chauncey's assists would go up about 9.3 APG. In addition to that, the Pistons offensive gameplan is not for Chauncey to dominate the ball and almost be the only playmaker like some of these other guys are. In a similar situation he would also have the numbers.
2) Mentioning steals as a gauge for defense was your first mistake. Sadly but surely, getting steals does not equal playing good defense. Bowen is agreat man to man defender and is not known for his ability to steal the ball because he does what's important, playing straight up defense and stopping his man from scoring. Not to pass judgement, but the fact that you boldly felt steals somehow meant good defense says a little about your basketball knowledge. Steals can be part of your defensive ability, but not everyone that can rack up steals is a good defender, many guys just like to gamble a lot, and their 2/5 success rate gives 3 other oppurtunities for the other team to have an open shot of for their defense to be in dissaray.
3) This is talk about MVP, not MIP, Brevin Knight averged more assists in less minutes last season, and is not the MIP by any means.
It sure does. It's one of the difference why Jason Kidd wasn't MVP when he moved to the Nets, and Steve Nash was one.
Well their was the whole Duncan dominating that year with 26-13-4

like fgrep15 already said, Knight was doing just as good last year.
Axel wrote:Team record should have nothing to do with it at all.
It should have everything to do with it. Your teams has to WIN for you to be an MVP.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 3:55 pm
Brand, Iverson, LeBron, Kobe, Billups.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 4:09 pm
Team winning has nothing to do with it. Michael Jordan would be just as valuable of a player if he had played for this years Toronto Raptors. His value is just as high, it just happens that the rest of the team is shit.
And I think you're digging a bit too deep. We could make similar arguments for Darko Milicic too. I could argue that Darko would be the most valuable player if he got the kind of minutes A.I. or Kobe gets. You could just multiple his scoring average by the increase minutes.... and suddenly even he looks good.
But the fact is Billups' numbers simply aren't as good as the others I listed. You can just make excuses for why they aren't as good, but that doesn't correlate into better performance.
