since yao and camby are out, will he start in the all star game since he is the 3rd leading vote getter for centers in the west?
Mon Jan 02, 2006 4:34 pm
It depends if Yao and Camby are injured at the time of the all-star game... at the moment it's a bit early
Mon Jan 02, 2006 4:37 pm
He would deserves it, he's been playing like an All Star recently.
Mon Jan 02, 2006 5:16 pm
Only if he's named as a replacement and even then only if the coach decides to start him. While the league nominates a player as a replacement for someone who's injured, the coach has final say on who replaces him in the starting lineup.
For example...say T-Mac and KG are voted in as the starting forwards (leaving Duncan on the bench, since I doubt he won't be picked by the coaches) with Yao as the starting centre...the Western coach could choose to start Duncan in Yao's place or indeed anyone else picked for the team, including the replacement (say, Okur). Or he could start KG at centre and start someone else entirely at the other forward sport alongside T-Mac.

I thought you had to get picked as a reserve by the coaches, it's not just the next person in line voting wise.
Mon Jan 02, 2006 5:54 pm
That's right. The league (or possibly the coaches) selects the replacements. The coaches of course vote on the reserves in the first place.

Yao's not gonna be out that long anyway, he'll be back for All-Star. And I don't think many fans will like to see Okur starting in an All-Star game...
Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:18 pm
Well as I just explained, Okur wouldn't necessarily be starting or even named to the team as a replacement. It's at the discretion of the league, not the next player in line in the fan voting. Also, isn't Yao out indefinitely? That doesn't usually suggest a quick return.
Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:18 pm
he's been doing well out there, and he deserves to go. I think he's just about getting 20 & 10 which would probably place him #2 behind Camby.
Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:24 pm
He's averaging 18 and 9 (roughly), which are indeed fine numbers. I too wouldn't be surprised if he was named to the team as a replacement or perhaps in the absence of Camby if he's still unavailable by the time All-Star Weekend rolls around.

Okur's playing a career year this season...in fact i'm starting to like this player...why not?
Mon Jan 02, 2006 11:55 pm
he's another guy that was held back by larry brown.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 2:34 am
that would be so weird to have okur start o_0 but yeah whatever

Funny how Utah could actually have a good team if everyone could stay healthy. They're young and their frontcourt really complements each other. Boozer provides rebounding with low post game, while Okur stay more on the outside and AK47 just glides in-between. If they can only get someone who would provide great shooting and D from the SG position, they would be in good shape. Adam Morrison and JJ Reddick won't give you much D, but they would sure give you a good shooting skills.
C: Okur
PF: Boozer
SF: Kirilenko
SG: Reddick
PG: Williams

Where is this guy? Honestly, its like he just took Utah's millions of dollars and ran off with it.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 3:16 am
They say he has some harmstring problems or something like that. Plus, he lost his hustle on his way out of Cleveland.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 4:06 am
They said Yao will be out 4-6 weeks a week ago or so. It'll be awfully close to the ASG. We'll see. Yao did say he'll do everything he can to get back by then because he really wants to play in front of his hometown fans.
Tue Jan 03, 2006 4:44 am
Well we know for sure that Yao will start, cuz he is getting so many votes(probably all chinese people voted for him)...camby will be back up to yao, but i don't see okur in an all star game at all.

J.J. Redick(only one 'D') will not start on an NBA basketball team and Adam Morrison will not play shooting guard in the NBA. Don't buy into the Dick Vitale hype machine.

The guy played 51 games last year, and not to mention he chickened out against playing in Cleveland.
