it will be interesting to see what Indy gets out of this deal.

I say he'll end up in....Minnesota.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 1:50 am

There was a radio report in Indy that said a Maggette for Artest deal is very close to happening.

Yeah, the Clippers finally making the playoffs was too good to be true.. :?

Tue Dec 27, 2005 2:46 am

Olowokandi and McCants for Artest! Come on McHale!

Tue Dec 27, 2005 3:20 am

An underachieving center and an unproven rookie for the top perimeter defender in the league? I might as well say that Toronto will offer Araujo and Peterson for Artest.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 3:50 am

Riot, the T-Wolves have no chance. It seems Donnie is getting offers of the caliber of Maggette, Odom, Lewis and Al Harrington. There is no way a trade to Minny gets done. The only thing Minny can really offer is a combo of Wally and Eddie Griffin, and there's no way to make salaries match in a deal that Walsh would like.

Jermaine O'Neal&Artest for Hasell, Griffin and Wally ?

Tue Dec 27, 2005 5:09 am

Wow... that would be a bad move by the Clips if Artest doesn't pan out.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 6:07 am

According to an insider at Pacers Digest who has been very reliable in the past, Donnie Walsh has put the Clippers on hold, and put the ball in the Lakers court. He has made it clear to the Lakers that he wants Lamar Odom and they are considering it. It seems Artest is headed to LA, its just unclear if it will be to the Lakers for Odom, or to the Clippers for Maggette.

However, with the Pacers, it could end up being someone that nobody has mentioned, or a deal that seems to be dead, ie: Rashard Lewis, Shane Battier, Al Harrington, or who knows what else.

Well, that underachieving center is better than any other center they have and he is expiring. Plus, Rashad McCants has a shit load of upside.

I don't expect it to happen, but those are the rumors going on around here. And I don't think the Pacers are getting offers like Corey Maggette or Rashard Lewis. I'll believe it when it happens. I don't think Artest's trade value is that high right now.

We don't care about expiring contracts when it comes to this deal, we are still trying to win a title this year, and Olowokandi and McCants sure aren't going to help that happen.

As for Kandi being better then anyone we have? I like Centers to get more then 5-6 rebounds per game, and I certainly like it when they are able to have a good season that isn't a contract year. Kandi has a terrible attitude, and I wouldn't even CONSIDER trading Jeff Foster for him, much less Ron Artest.

Also, if you don't think Donnie is going to be able to pull off a trade for Maggette, Lewis or Odom, then you don't know Walsh's trade history. Yes, there have been some clunkers, but when he's prepared, he knows what he's doing. If he was going to make a shitty ass deal like the ones you're thinking about, it would have been long done by now. Walsh is going for an All Star caliber player. Period.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 8:48 am

Michael Olowokandi averages the same amount of RPG in 6 less minutes, but a lot of that has to do with Garnett and Griffin eating up so many rebounds. They just go after and get them. And Olowokandi may suck but he is twice the offensive threat that Jeff Foster is, no doubt about that.

And I have heard NUMEROUS reports that the Pacers do not want to take on a big salary and they are actually looking to dump their big salary players. It sounds to me like he doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money right now. Which is why I think Wally Szczerbiak would not be involved in any kind of trade offer.

I heard the Pacers are interested in both Olowokandi and McCants from the Timberwolves. And if this so-called "terrible" offer was so bad and if the Pacers were truely getting "all-star caliber players" offered to them then why are the Timberwolves a Ron Artest finalist? It seems to me like the Timberwolves offer is pretty much on par with the rest of the league's offers.

But Indy, what do I expect? I expect you to think you will get equal value back for Ron Artest. I expect you go after and think you guys will get a guy like Corey Maggette or Rashard Lewis for him. I just don't think it will happen and if it does I will admit my ignorance. However, right now I find it very hard to believe that Donnie Walsh is getting offered all these big name players and he remains to sit on his hands. If the Pacers were being offered Rashard Lewis or Corey Maggette for him I'd do that trade in a heart beat...why would you wait?

That's great. Ron's a small forward, Olowokandi's a Center, must I say more?

Riot wrote:And Olowokandi may suck but he is twice the offensive threat that Jeff Foster is, no doubt about that.

Never start a sentence with "And". :) In all seriousness, you of all people *cough* Trenton Hassel dick sucker *cough* should realize that not all people on the floor need to score to make a difference. Jeff makes a difference without scoring that is more valuable then Olowokandi can ever be.

Riot wrote:And I have heard NUMEROUS reports that the Pacers do not want to take on a big salary and they are actually looking to dump their big salary players.

Yeah, we are looking to get rid of our big salary players, such as Jon Benders- through his retirement.

Riot wrote:Which is why I think Wally Szczerbiak would not be involved in any kind of trade offer.

That is why there won't be a trade with Minny. ;)

Riot wrote:I heard the Pacers are interested in both Olowokandi and McCants from the Timberwolves.

Yeah? Well we aren't. If a trade involving either of those players as the main components takes place, I'll put Kevin Garnett in my avatar, and GWB in my sig untill I move for school in January.

Riot wrote:And if this so-called "terrible" offer was so bad and if the Pacers were truely getting "all-star caliber players" offered to them then why are the Timberwolves a Ron Artest finalist?

Why? Because Kandi and Wally for Artest and Bender works, that's probably something Donnie's pushing for, and maybe Minny is considering it.

Riot wrote:But Indy, what do I expect? I expect you to think you will get equal value back for Ron Artest. I expect you go after and think you guys will get a guy like Corey Maggette or Rashard Lewis for him.

No, I don't expect to get equal value for Ron. Maggette and Lewis aren't even close to the caliber of Ron Artest, as far as basketball skills go.

Riot wrote:If the Pacers were being offered Rashard Lewis or Corey Maggette for him I'd do that trade in a heart beat...why would you wait?

Aha! Finally, an interesting point.

Well ,here's my theory: There is no way these deals were being offered at first, as time went on, the offers got better and better. Walsh is milking it for all he can, trying to get the best deal available, no reason to make a quick, knee jerk trade and not get the best deal possible.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 2:39 pm

I was comparing Olowokandi's rebounding numbers to Foster's, not Artest's.

And I think the opposite as you, I think the longer they take the less value Artest has. Especially if Danny Granger keeps playing the way he is playing.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 2:43 pm

Looks like the lakers are out of the running. Donnie doesnt want Odom's contract, he wants Bynum but Buss doesnt want to let go of the kid.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 2:49 pm

I wouldn't give either of them up for Artest. Last thing this growing team needs is a mental patient in denial running around at SF.

You do realize Foster is playing injured right? You don't truely think Kandi is a better rebounder then Jeff Foster I hope.

Tue Dec 27, 2005 3:00 pm

I've given up on Odom though. If we can get Artest for him, DO IT MITCH! I dont want Bynum to be traded though, he's gonna be DPOY someday.

I never said Olowokandi was a better rebounder, but you said something along the lines of "it's pathetic that your starting center gets 5rpg-6rpg" when your starting center (Jeff Foster) gets 5rpg.

Actually, our starting Center averages 10.6 boards a game. Foster comes off the bench.

Jeff Foster = The best white guy center ever.

He'll probably be the only white guy center that I'll ever appreciate as a player.

Bill Laimbeer? Bill Walton?

Wed Dec 28, 2005 2:33 am

Jeff Foster works hard and is a great guy. Every team needs a guy like that. But he really isn't a good starting center. He's only good if you have 4 other players who can pick up the slack offensively. Jeff Foster would not be a good center on a team like the Atlanta Hawks or Toronto Raptors. But on the Indiana Pacers he is because he can do the little things (which he is good at) while the other players do the "big things".

Does that make sense?

Wed Dec 28, 2005 2:34 am

white guy center
Rik Smits.

Bill Laimbeer? Bill Walton?

I've never seen them play before and I've gotten into basketball for only about 8 years now, so I don't know anything about the older players. I'm pretty sure Jeff Foster would school them though. 8-)
