For once I agree with Indy. I saw him play and was astonished by his complete set of skills and his versatility..

If he gets his chances, he'll be All-Star material in 2-3 seasons. (Y)

And then I picked him up :D

What surprises me is the number of blocks he's able to get. He's pretty versatile in limited minutes, and I'm hoping to see his minutes rise (and help my fantasy team reach unparallelled heights).

You shouldn't be surprised, I mentioned before he gave me a Marionesque feel with his numbers also because in College he averaged 2+ steals and blocks. He was ranked as the best swing defender coming into the draft by a lot of people. :D

Its amazing how correct the Scottie Pippen comparisons were.

Now you're taking things a bit too far . He'll be a good player, but he lacks athleticism and ballhandling ability to be a superstar material, which Scottie certainly was.

All I meant was that his game mirrors Scotties. I never said he'd be as good as Scottie.

With that I would agree. In my mind, a lineup of Tinsley, Jackson, Granger, O'Neal and a decent centre in the Magloire mold (plus the superb bench they have now) would make a championship material. I really hope that they somehow get Nene. His injury appears to be nothing career threatening or athletic ability-diminishing, so I would take a roll on him, if I were Walsh. He can fill the hole in the middle for this team and provide instant explosion of strength and athleticism. Nene's combination of hops and quickness can be surpassed only by likes of Amare. He doesn't have height of a typical centre, but he makes for it with his length and body type. Best case scenario is that he becomes a double double machine and an All-Star and the worst one isn't as bad as you think. Too bad that he won't be able to play this year and that Pacers are playing in the same conference as Detroit :).

a center like... Jeff Foster??? Foster's an animal on the boards.

Hmm, who made the Pippen comparisons? I really don't see that at all, not really similar players.

It was a comparison made a ton on draft day.

You don't see the similarities? I sure do. Danger's a guy who can guard pretty much every position, he has a sneaky way of playing defense, he gets to the basket as much as possible on offense, and he can fill up the stat sheet in all categories. A lot of similarities to Pip.

Sun Dec 25, 2005 2:40 pm

Pip couldn't guard any non perimeter positions. Pippen was known for his great all-round game and defense. Danny has an all-round game, but not close to the same level, he was not a prolific ball handling or passing SF by any means.

The comparisons I saw:

Josh Howard on defense, Rashard Lewis on offense
Michael Finley
Eddie Griffin

I saw him as similar to Shawn Marion, but a little different, I liked the Rashard/Howard a lot.

Sun Dec 25, 2005 2:48 pm

Actually, Scottie was very good at fronting the post against guys like Karl Malone.

Danny has an all-round game, but not close to the same level, he was not a prolific ball handling or passing SF by any means.

I never said that Danny was at the same level of play as Pippen, just that there are similarities in the way they play. As for the ball handling bit, you're right, that's where the similarities end. Pippen was a guy that played the point forward position, and brought the ball up the court even more then BJ Armstrong, John Paxson or any of the other Bulls PGs. Danny will never do that. An interesting similarity between the two is that they are both 6'8", 228. Exactly the same measurements.

Sun Dec 25, 2005 4:50 pm

strange to see that both are 6'8 and 228 but i don't believe he'll reach pippens level, maybe if he was a little more athlectic. i still believe he will be the 3rd best forward of the draft after marvin williams and gerald green, both of those have the athleticism that granger lacks and both will have their chances to shine, their teams just have to let them play...

Sun Dec 25, 2005 5:48 pm

grangers not close to shard on offense. shard is a great 3pt shooter, and shoots a lot of shots from outside every game

granger is not a 3pt shooter. he hadnt hit a 3 all year until jus 3 games ago or so... hes extremely streaky from the outside, but i can see how in 2/3 years he will be more similar to shard if he works on his outside game a LOT

Sun Dec 25, 2005 5:59 pm

Of course the comparisons aren't supposed to be identical.Granger is a rookie and his skillset & potential is that of guys that are seasoned. How can someone say that Granger won't turn out like Lewis when Lewis wasn't exactly anything special in his rookie year. You can't dismiss the kid.

Having said that, he won't be an All-Star in 2,3yrs, although he might be All-Star caliber player. Too much depth IMO.

Too bad he doesn't do shit on offense or isn't at least a very good defensive player (just 'good'). They need another post presence to prevent double teams on O'Neal. Perhaps then he's shooting percentage will raise to a decent level.

Sun Dec 25, 2005 8:50 pm

Not really on-topic, but how good is Danny on Live 06?
He could be the guy i need to run with Kobe ;)

Pity i missed the Cleveland/Indiana game the other day, i would of liked to see the kid play.

:wall: How many times do I have to say it: I'm not saying he'll reach Pippens level, just that they have similar styles... does everyone understand?

I don't know. He'll never be Pippen. He's not athletic enough.

That block he had on Wade in my avatar's pretty damn athletic. :P

When the Pacers come to town on the 20th of January I'll remember to heckle Danny Granger for you, Indy.

He's not a freak though. His combination of quickness, speed and jumping ability are just very good, not unnatural. Pippen had that. That's why he'll never be on his level .

Mon Dec 26, 2005 3:08 am

hm nice block against wade....

Mon Dec 26, 2005 7:37 am

I've read somewhere that Danny Granger has a 36 inch verticle. That's a pretty solid verticle to go with the fact that he's also 6'8/6'9 and has long arms.

Mon Dec 26, 2005 7:49 am

He has a 34'' vertical and tested out 31# overall athlete at Chicago predraft camp. That doesn't tell a lot though. Andrew Bogut had a 33 1/2'' inch vertical .
