I'm telling you people that a super-star lineup does not work...
Like lineup of
Shaq
Duncan
T-Mac
Kobe
Iverson
Pretty much the best players out there at the moment... Then a bench of say:
Garnett
Marion
Brand
Allen
Redd
Arenas
James
-------------
It just does not work... Too many scorers and shooters and only a single ball... I love to shoot the ball and it sometimes pains me when I don't get the ball as often as I would like... And all the super-stars are used to having the ball in their hands and score a lot of points. The US team needs 3-4 stars that do most of the scoring and a versatile bunch at that, I mean one inside guy, one slasher, one shooter and one who can do it all... Or replace the slasher with another "who can do it all" guy... So there is that versatility. Then you need to surround those 4 players with players that support these guys... Inside and outside defenders, great playmakers, good shooters (who can hit the open jumper)... So that would be a complete team... A team made of super-stars is never going to be all that happy together.
Each player needs to have a role and they have to be happy filling his role and not guys who think that their role is wrong and/or not enough... Scoring hasn't been the problem with the US teams, the team is always packed with great scorers, but the versatility has been very lacking... The last US team, a defense could swamp the middle and let them shoot the outside shots and you would have a good chance at winning the game.
It was just that simple... There were no guys that could shoot the ball in it...

interesting take. who do you suggest should be on the team?
though i don't necessarily agree since top tier players like Garnett, Duncan, Billups, Marion aren't selfish despite their status
the only problem with getting pure shooters for the SG spot is that most of them are not good defenders
i think if we bring the best and the coach will play to their strengths, the US team will win it. though there could be trouble if the nba non travel is called a travel in the games

For Shooters I grab JJ Redick, Kyle Korver and Damon Jones
For Scores id get like Kobe/T-mac and like Rip
For Perimeter Defense id Get Bruce Bowen and James Posey/Trent Hassel
For Inside Game id get Elton Brand and Shaq
For Playmakers id get Chauncey Billups or J-Kidd
For Inside Stopping id get Marcus Camby and Ben Wallace
And then id find a spot for Dwyane Wade.
Doesnt look like a bad team to me no egos, unless kobe and shaq are both there...

Big BEn is too old.
Sat Dec 24, 2005 11:52 pm
he's only 30 and in the prime of his career.
I think Korver & D Jones would suck. Neither plays D and both are useless when not shooting. D Jones doesn't even create anything for teammates or shoot layups and/or 2pnters.
RIP would be good because he's in constant motion. Kobe doesn't need justifying. The rest are good picks too.
the only problem with getting pure shooters for the SG spot is that most of them are not good defenders
indeed, however the problem of the last team was that nobody put up a hand to contest a shot. If you put a hand in the shooters face you should be alright most times.
Sun Dec 25, 2005 12:09 am
no way should korver be in that team
he is terrible, cant create his own shot, or anyone elses shot, cant play D, and misses way too many shots, and also looks retarded when he shoots
shaq will be too old, i rekon J'Oneal would be better for his spot
chris paul (maybe) for a playmaker? maybe next team...
Sun Dec 25, 2005 12:13 am
Korver is a role player and every team (at least a good one) needs them. He's a superb shooter and if you bring him off the bench when needed, that won't hurt your D that much.
Sun Dec 25, 2005 12:14 am
have you seen him play? its like watching a retard trying to fuck a doorknob when he shoots... (not every shot, but he sticks his legs out when he jumps...)

. Yes, I have seen him play and he's a great shooter who made some clutch shots in the past. Who gives a fuck whether he looks good doing it? Well, obviously you do.
Sun Dec 25, 2005 12:24 am
use him purely for defense and tell him to just act pretty on offense and wait for the many missed shots

its not that he looks stupid, he looks stupid and doesnt make the shots
granted, ive only seen him play 5 or 6 games, but in ALL of them he missed countless open shots, and never got on fire.
Sun Dec 25, 2005 4:20 am
Try to see 5 or 6 games when he's on fire. It has happened Korver is one inconsistant motherfucker, but so are the whole Sixers. And yeah, he does look stupid sometimes, but a lot of players look stupid.

matthew berry thinks korver is dreamy looking, so what would his looks have anything to do with it anyway
im just saying he looks like a retard whens hes shooting badly

I guess that officially would count shaq out if he wasn't too old...
