Who would you guys consider the top 10 perimeter defenders in the league today? There are the obvious ones (Artest, Bowen) but there it seems like people tend to rattle off some random names (typically their favorite players). So, who do you guys think is the top 10 perimeter defenders?
1) Ron Artest
2) Bruce Bowen
3) Trenton Hassell
4) Tayshaun Prince
5) Shane Battier
6) Greg Buckner
7) Jacque Vaughn
8) Kobe Bryant
9) Andre Igoudala
10) Ruben Patterson

1) Trenton Hassell
2) Trenton Hassell
3) Trenton Hassell
4) Trenton Hassell
5) Trenton Hassell
6) Trenton Hassell
7) Trenton Hassell
8) Trenton Hassell
9) Trenton Hassell
10) .... Hmmm..., I'm stuck...
Tue Dec 20, 2005 7:45 am
10) Anthony Carter
Tue Dec 20, 2005 7:58 am
7) Jacque Vaughn
After seeing what AI did to him, I'd replace him in that spot with James Posey.
Tue Dec 20, 2005 7:58 am
Riot, your list is dead spot on, although I have a strong feeling that you're missing somebody significant... and I'm trying to remember who it is.
Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:06 am
Not in order...
1) Bruce Bowen
2) Ron Artest
3) Trenton Hassell
4) Kobe Bryant
5) Shane Battier
6) Tayshaun Prince
7) Shawn Marion
8) Brevin Knight
9) Andrei Kirilenko
10) Andre Iguodala
Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:26 am
I would have put Kirilenko and Marion on it but I don't know if I would consider them "perimeter" defenders. If they are, then I'd take Vaughn and Patterson off.
Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:41 am
Not in order...
Why'd you put numbers then?
Tue Dec 20, 2005 8:47 am
Riot, I figured it out. You're missing Marion. He's gotta be on that list.

Maybe he was referring to Riot's order?

Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:33 am

4.) kobe bryant (when he's motivated, he's one of the best in the league)
5.) trenton hassell
6.) ricky davis
7.) dwyane wade
8.) richard jefferson
9.) andre iguodala
10.) morris peterson
Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:34 am

...to show that there are ten.

Point guards don't seem to be receiving much respect around here. After all, they are perimeter defenders.
Marcus Banks
Lindsey Hunter
Gary Payton(can't guard the quick ones but is still really crafty)
Chris Duhon
Delonte West
Really, more credit needs to be given to those who are able to give the full-court press against the opposing point guards. That's tough work. Yeah, being able to guard the opposing swingman deserves praise, but the offensive structure is dependant on the point guard, and if you can give him headaches from the beginning, it could throw the whole team off.
Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:21 am
GloveGuy, you would put 2 Celtics point guards, and one former Celtics point guard
1.) Ron Artest
2.) Bruce Bowen
3.) Trenton Hassel
4.) Tayshaun Prince
5.) Andrei Kirilenko
6.) Shawn Marion
7.) Larry Hughes
8.) Allen Iverson
9.) Shane Battier
10.) Andre Iguodala

What, no S-Jax or another Pacer???
Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:42 am
Delonte West
i think he's one of the worst defenders, especially after the way Billups, Wade and others repeatedly embarassed him.
Lindsey Hunter is still a good defender!!!

D-Weaver wrote:What, no S-Jax or another Pacer???

Oops sorry, I guess that wasn't a homer enough list.

5.) Sarunas Jasikevicius
6.) Scot Pollard
7.) Jeff Foster
8.) Jermaine O'Neal
9.) Austin Croshere

456.) Ron Artest

456.) Ron Artest WE DON'T NEED HIM!!!!
I haven't really watched any Pacers' games this year, but Tinsley at teh 1, Sarunas at the 2 and Jackson at the 3... would that be a viable option?

That's the lineup we used against the Knicks, and before Tins returned for the New York game, we were going with AJ at the 1, Saras at the 2, Jack at the 3. Unfortunatley, if the deal with Denver and Atlanta doesn't go through, I think another deal might get worked out that involves shipping out Jackson.
However, I want Sarunas at the 1. I want to see him coming off the bench and being a spark. Its clear that Tinsley is the better point guard, and that when he is focused on playing team-oriented basketball, he is one of the best points in the leauge. Playing Sarunas at the two, you can tell is kind of getting to him. I think he'd rather come off the bench and play the one.
