he's an idiot...
C'mon, there's no good reason to take the music out of the game!

Hopefully he's not planning on getting rid of some of the classic ditties that have been played in arenas for years now (like "Charge!", the "Addams Family" theme and "If you're happy and you know it (clap your hands)"), as there's really no need for that. Even the music during timeouts has become a staple of sports.

I don't mind Stern "cleaning up" the game but I think he does go to extremes and doesn't always hit the right area.

Stern is like the Hitler of NBA, trying to make it a white sport again.

Thank God he isn't. I like the changes he's made.

I just got back from the Clipper-Suns game and noticed the in-game music. I don't think the players really notice the music because their concentrating on the game. If they can play a chant like "charge!" or "defense!" then thats just the same as playing a beat for 3 seconds.

Oh, and David Stern is just intimidated by what he doesn't understand. Next thing you'll know, he'll want the crowd all quiet like during a golf swing or tennis serve, and the commentators will have to whisper the play by play.

Sun Dec 11, 2005 6:46 pm

next thing you know, he's gonna make a 4-pointer line for J.J. Redick and other white people...

I'm just kidding, Stern has done a lot of good things for NBA, and i like him. Compared to the NHL, NBA has improved a lot over the years. They have expanded the game to an international level. Thi music thing is just an thought, and i hope it stays that way.

Sun Dec 11, 2005 8:47 pm

i think the music is cool, and really takes away nothing from the game while adding some nice atmosphere

obviously the crowds wont be the same as college, nearly everyone at college games is young, probly drunk and is out to have a good time, whilst at games the people are aged 1-100, and will never be as animated at the games

last two posts were great (Y)

That is a good point, something that's ignored with criticisms of Stern and I know I'm guilty of it too at times. He's done a great job as commissioner on the whole and he should get more credit for making the NBA what it is today. I do feel some of his decisions are focusing on the wrong issues and making a bigger deal of some things than necessary.

I enjoy most of the (rock) music, mostly during time-outs. When the crowd is really loud, the music helps the noise keep going, which makes actually seeing a game in person enjoyable.

Maciej Lampe? But he could be a Jew who hates other Jews. And obviously, black people. I wonder what he'll do with Jordan Farmer when he comes into the league. Perhaps he'll burn him alive during a half-time show.

Mon Dec 12, 2005 8:28 am

As long as the music is not "Who Let the Dogs Out".
Stern must have something better to do than ban the arena music.

Mon Dec 12, 2005 11:54 am

I think all of this is so serious now just because of what happened at the superbowl a few years ago. Last year we got the worst NBA All-Star halftime show ever. Stern ought to be a little more relaxed, no need for so many changes so quickly. He just got "operation pennyloafer" in and even removed players wearing headphones before games, so he should ease up a little bit. If changes are needed in the future, then so be it.

What happened at last years halftime show? I forgot.

I agree with that, that was fucking awful. It's like the NASCAR show accidentely went to the wrong arena.

ye and i like that, i mean when ur playing ball and for ppl who listen to hip-hop which 99% of the nba players listen to and theres a song with a sick beat and all u feel charged up and stuff. But then if u bring in some slow music your like wtf is this. So i feel that the music actually helps them play better in a way

Next thing you know... He's gonna make a rule that all active NBA players, or players who would like to join the NBA, must have plastic surgery to look at least 90% like David Stern.
