Postby Hoopwrecker3 on Wed Nov 30, 2005 11:47 pm

Im using nfshtool i have extracted the files properly, then I edited 0000.bmp and 0000-a.bmp, but when i rebuild them using the index.fsh, its not successful!...i think the problem is on the file format, i think it has something to do with its Transparency thing or the Alpha thing...im using Photoshop CS on editing!...can anyone help me on how to set/make alpha transparency thing please or better yet try posting a short tutorial on this problem!...im looking forward on your response!...it will really be a big help!...Thanks! :D :D :D

What does it say when you try to rebuild it?
And what changed did you make to the .bmp's?

i was editing the portrait of my created player!...i know there are tutorials on editing the player portrait but im having a hard time editing it!...so here it goes!...i used aamckie big file and extracted the aamckie.fsh file of using Bigui and from there i extracted aamckie.fsh using nfshtool, now I edited 0000.bmp and 0000-a.bmp, i add another layer of 0000.bmp and place my created players picture/portrait and delete the background layer which is the picture of Mckie, after that i select the magic wand tool and select the outer part of my pic and fill it with black, and after that I save/overwrite the 0000.bmp, then next i select the pic/portrait of the player I created and delete it then fill the outer part of the pic/portrait with black, meaning the shape of my head is empty/transparent! then I save it as 0000-a.bmp replacing the original 0000-a.bmp!...hope you'll understand!...sorry for the explation, i am having a hard time explaining it!...hehehe :D :D :D !...hope you can help me! :D :D :D

The transparency file (-a.bmp) isn't supposed to actually be transparent. Black (#000000) means it will become transparent, and white (#FFFFFF) is to mark the areas that will be visible. So you'd want to make the head white, and the rest black.

Also, when do you come across the problem? It's when trying to run nfshtool again right? Then what does nfshtool say when you try to run it?

nfshtool does not work on the newer fsh versions

the author of the program has released a new program that works in the same way, but instead of BMPs it outputs DDS files

Krawhitham, The newest nfshtool works fine for me... At least on courts and faces, might be different for the others.

Hoopwrecker3, Yea, there's an error with the -a.bmp that you made. A good way to be sure that you get it right is to just use the original one and save it after making your changes.
Although I'd recommend that you use the program fshline instead. That uses .png and .dds format, so you can just make the areas on the .png file transparent, and not have to worry about any alpha channels or stuff like that. Check out fshline and see if you like it more.

Sir Andrew!
i tried fshline!...i deleted nfshtool which is my default fhs editor since i dont know how to use fshline so i tried using it like nfshtool!...it extracted a dds file and a png file!...do i have to edit both or simply just edit one of them? Then what do i have to do next?

Make the Alpha Channel an 8-bit bitmap.

You can do that by opening your bmp in EAGRAPH and press the down button on its toolbar. Save them import at the NFSHTOOL.
