What is this new singlet thingy?

Hi, I just saw this picture of Kobe and Carter weaing some internal singlet or something inside their Jerseys? Is this some new trend or has it been around for awhile?

I do know some college players wear a shirt inside their jerseys while playing.

I for one, do not. It's already hot enough when you're sweating it out on the court. But, can someone tell me the reasons for wearing an 'undergarment' inside one's jersey? So that it won't be that digusting when you bump around with other players, sweat?

Thank you.

the jerseys they wear are not great at absorbing sweat. it is also a layer of cloth to keep warm. After you sweat, and when you go to the bench things cool down dramatically, and also when you cool down sweat on the jersey tends to get quite disgusting when it touches your skins. That's my guess anyways. I personally like to wear a t-shirt when i play basketball because the cutton abosrbs sweat very nicely.

Is it like.. some sort of male bra ? hmmm.... has anyone seen Shaq or Oliver Miller wearing one?

Anyway, I would think the stitching would get quite irritating combined with the sweat.

Well, players wear shirts under jerseys usually to absorb sweat i believe... much like what sweatbands are for... as [L3]1101 stated.

It does seem to be more of a recent trend, at least amongst NBA players.

Aren't their apparel made of drifit or whatnot material? But I suppose with the amount of physical activity they do the sweat won't evaporate enough perhaps.

Oh, and one more thing, those tights NBA players wear inside their shorts. I think it's called compression shorts or something. Does the same principle apply? For comfiness?

I also noticed that NBA jerseys(or maybe all basketball jerseys) seem to be super long? Like if I put them on and tuck them in they might end up at my knees I guess.

in the afl (australian football) the players wear something like that which tracks their movements to see how far they ran, as well as their heart rate and stuff like that

maybe this is the same? (doubtful though)

its also to keep the body warm to prepare themselves after a break.usually after a break u feel like ur legs cant move like how it did.i believe this shirt can keep the body from getting cool down.so that they will maintain at a certain level

Next thing you know.... they'll wear stockings over their heads.
Apparently to absorb sweat.

Aren't heabands for that. And anyways, on court, it's better to keep your head cool.

They absorb the sweat and keeps the jersey fom sticking onto the players' skin. Because when you sweat the jersey (NBA Team Jersey) sticks to you and it is very uncomfortable, so they wear the shirt under to absorb the sweat and to keep the jerseys from sticking onto them. I aslo believe that the shirt underneath keeps you warm, its kind of likw what Allen Iverson wears to keep his arm warm.

Well... for televised games... I think it's better if Sam Cassell actually wore a stocking over his head, Or maybe it's an advantage for him on court.

Hmm, I just bought the Feb '06(how many months in advance?) issue of SLAM! and there's an ad of Dwayne Wade in a protective gear suit called Hexpad. I think maybe that's what kobe is wearing perhaps. Coz it has grey material like what is shown as Kobe's wearing.

The website for this is www.mcdavidusa.com . I think Wade wears these while playing games.

=)

-edit-

Hmm looking at that kobe picture again, it doesn't look like a hexpad, the width's different. But interesting to note all these new innovations -_- what next, next time they'll play all armored like American football.

Wades and Shaqs is a shirt used by many NFL players to prevent back injuries and to protect Wade from serious injury when he hits the floor after a areobatic play.

these are the kind of things Wade wore
