Magic Talks With Spree End When Two-Year Deal Is Demanded

Wed Nov 09, 2005 9:28 am

ImageOrlando Sentinel - The Magic spoke with Latrell Sprewell's agent, but Spree wanted a two-year deal.

Orlando decided that it was too long to be tied to him given his age and their opinions regarding his character.

I hope he doesn't get a contract.

want all, lose all.

Sooner or later, he'll give in. His family's at the risk of starvation.

(Sorry, I had to do that :P)

 Damn...poor Spree.

As people say, beggers can't be choosers. He's got to get to his senses soon...

Wed Nov 09, 2005 12:04 pm

how much is this asking for?

You have to hand it to Spree. Zero leverage yet he refuses to budge.

Sat Nov 12, 2005 10:50 am

A little question...What if Spree gets voted to the ASG? I know it's really hard for him to get votes but, what if he gets voted to start? He could play or not?

Sat Nov 12, 2005 10:51 am

I don't think he'd be on the ballot seeing as though he wasn't signed by the time opening night rosters were finalised.

Mon Nov 14, 2005 3:11 pm

ASG???

Mon Nov 14, 2005 3:26 pm

Sprewell clearly couldn't play in the All-Star Game if he was voted in, as much as you or I couldn't if we were.

The man is an idiot, on top of that.

I am worried about Spree's family. If he doesn't get a contract soon I am afraid his family will starve.

Guys, enough with the feed my family jokes. Those are SO old.

Magic could use him, so I hope they do sign him. I hope some team signs him already at least. Nuggets could also use him.

Tue Nov 15, 2005 7:42 am

Doesnt he have money to feed his family? I mean didnt he have a deacent deal with Minesota or w/e?

In Chuck's weekly column about the Raptors:
Chuck Swirsky wrote:I hope Latrell Sprewell can feed his family now that he's on the outside looking in looking for work.

 Even Chuck's getting in on it.

Do you mean the LA Clippers?

Sat Nov 19, 2005 9:15 am

If Spree is forced into retirement because he won't bend on any demands when he has zero leverage, he has only himself to blame. It's a shame because I don't believe he's done, but he's not really in a position to demand a long contract or the kind of money he was making under his last contract.

Sat Nov 19, 2005 1:09 pm

He's still demanding around 7 mill a year and he's saying that taking one million would be "a slap to the face". Jesus christ..... :shake:

Sun Nov 20, 2005 8:23 am

Man, this just tells you spree's not even interested in playing basketball. He just wants money. He's not gonna get a contract worth 7 million period. At this rate, I'm not surprised if he remains a free agent for the whole season. Teams just dont want and dont need players that have a bad character and contract.

Sun Nov 20, 2005 8:42 am

A veteran with his demenaor and stats (12ppg. And we're talking about a guy who has been known as a scorer for his career.) should be getting 7-10 million $ per? What the fuck?

Yeah, I saw that on RealGM. I guess you can't blame his agent for trying, but surely he has to release he has no leverage, that Spree may be a capable veteran but not quite as capable as he was a couple of years ago, and he's not helping the situation at all. So what he's saying is true; he might as well retire, though not for the reasons he's citing. If he wants to demand more money than he's worth and refuses to take any offer - even just for a year - he might as well call it quits.
