Steph or Steve

Postby Indy on Sun Nov 13, 2005 8:40 am

I like player comparison threads, never made one so I decided to make one.

Stephon Marbury vs. Steve Francis.

The battle of shoot first point guards/small shooting guards with the number 3.

Personally I'll take Francis. He's more of a team player, him and McGrady seemed to both mature after that trade, they are both playing well with their new teams, and not causing any disturbances.

With all the Knicks "fans" we have here, there ought to be a lot of arguing for Marbury.

may I ask why you wrote "fans" in quotations Indy??

Either way , I'd take Marbury , a tad bit more expierienced guard who is the best penetrating PG in the NBA right now . BOTH aren't proven winners or team leaders , and Marbury does put up better numbers on most days . Francis a way better rebounder though.

Steve Francis. I still remember when he was with the Rockets and thinking, 'How could this guy be the second best rebounder on the team?' But I'd take him... cause I like him more hehehe

Marbury been averaging above 20 and 8 for a long time (His whole career right?) and although it's to early to tell... his stats have dropped a bit. Stevie has upped his ppg again and his all-around game is what I like. Although I don't think he's got as good a shot as Marbury... he still gets the nod from me.

Not to mention his killer crossover and hops! :)

Well, I've been a fan of Marbury since I was wearing the Timberwolves jersey, and Francis hates my city...so this isn't what you would call unbiased.

Marbury. I'm not going to explain why he had nothing to do with various teams getting worse when he got there/good when he left. They're coincidences where people don't take into account other player movement that happened at the same time.

And this last year Francis had Hill and Howard. Marbury had...Kurt Thomas and Jamal Crawford. I wonder why he seemed to be more of a team player?

Francis, his contract is $15M cheaper.

I would think much better of Marbury if he wasn't getting paid like Iverson, Jason Kidd, Kobe, and Tim Duncan (and he makes more than all these guys except iverson).

Francis gets paid like Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Elton Brand...which seems to be about right.

you have to keep in mind marbury got his contract before the NBA cracked down on the ridiculous salaries. my guess is that they would simiarly be paid if they had gotten contract extensions at the same time

its a comparison of marbury vs. francis.
they both haven't proven to be winners yet but they both put good stats up.

Marbury seems to pass more, but Francis has more highlights. If you going to lose would you rather pass or have highlights to watch?

They both play very similar but I would choose Francis. He is probably the best rebounder when i comes to point guards.

i prefer marbury, francis just jumps higher

marbury is more consistent, better passer, shoots a better fg%, ft%, hits more 3's, commits less turnovers

Marbury I think is the slightly better player. Has better passing numbers then Francis but less of the excitement and more of the ego. And also, unlike Francis, Marbury makes whoever he leaves winners, and whoever he comes to losers. Just look at what the Knicks have done to start this year. When picking a piece to a championship you would want Francis because he fits in more, seemed to get better in Orlando and should continue to be that way.

It's not just Marbury that's the difference in the teams. NJ didn't just trade Kidd for Marbury and that's it, Nash vs. Marbury wasn't the only change in Phoenix, how can people still not see this. Injuries and other player movement happened at the same time.

I'd go with Marbury, I don't really care if he's "hated", he's still better than Steve Francis.

It really does confuse me how people fail to see those things. It's like some sort of mind blockage.

Interesting enough, any memory of it disappeared not long after he claimed to be the best point guard in the league.
