Official Raptors Thread: We beat the Pistons(' beench)!!

Sat Nov 05, 2005 11:39 am

Toronto has a lot of some young talent, but they seem to hurry their shots and moves and sometimes they are just too slow. Jalen rose is a pain in the ass, he takes too many shots, and commits too many turnovers (offensive fouls, and normal turnovers). Jalen gets paid too much even though he isnt that good. Arujo just sucks. Chris Bosh is starting to struggle, I mean his shots are sjust not going in and he isnt attacking the key enough. Bonner is an average shooter but when he shoots, he seems like he is crouching. Charlie V is trying hard but just not hard enough. Jose Calderon is doing very good. Alvin Williams.... I dont know, I havnt really seen him play this season yet. Mike James is doing ok I guess.

I think they need some time to see what they become. It could be anywhere from a month to a couple years before we see the real potential of the Raps.

That's a strange observation, I've watched Bosh play and a lot of the time he tries to score inside the paint.

Bonner is an average shooter but when he shoots, he seems like he is crouching.

I think you mean slouch, not crouch. Bonner is an above average shooter; it's just that he doesn't have the ability to create for himself.

Charlie V is trying hard but just not hard enough.

I don't get what you mean here. Charlie's been busting his tail off and he hasn't seemed to have played any lazy basketball to me. The guy looks determined after the ESPN guys gave him an earful.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:31 pm

they need to fire there GM as the first step

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:34 pm

Rob Babcock has done a fine job as the Raptors GM.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:43 pm

Charlie V is trying hard but just not hard enough.

have you been watching the games lately? he's been the sparkplug off the bench, he's doing a damn good job

the problem lies in jalen rose, sorry to say. in the season opener he cost them the game with that offensive foul and tonight, i dont know what the fuck he was doing but he kept isolating himself with carter.. and the sad part is most of his shots weren't falling. the raptors are headed one way, rose is headed to another. i think babcock should just trade him.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:44 pm

Bobcock has been trying to trade him from what I understand but the problem is nobody wants him and his big contract.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:55 pm

Charlie V int trying hard enough because he isnt moving too much on offence and on defence he's doing ok. Jalen is the reason we lost the beginning of the season, and it was partially his fault we lost today. I mean for a veteren that gets paid 5mil a year or something like that, he sure isn't being a good leader.

Mo Pete did a really good job today (Raptors vs Nets on Nov 4th, 2005), and so did Jose Calderon. Jose did amazing, he set so many players up for easy points and he is amazing at scoring and passing. Ok he might not be amazing at scoring but he's doing a good job.

Bosh isnt attacking the key enough because all he does is post up and than he kicks it out to the three or to another person. He isnt going into the key and finising with a strong move like he did last season. He's been kind of quiet and he hasn't been getting a lot of touches.

A poblem with the Raptors is that mostly all the players take too many 3-pointers. I mean I think it was Arujo that took a 3-pointer, I mean damn, when did a center take a 3-pointer? I mean he did it in a serious game.

Jalen was one of the reasons we had a bad season last year and I bet you that this season they will have a bad season because of him. Not saying its 100% his fault but I'm saying he is a big problem.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:59 pm

He may be a problem, but like Riot said it's kind of hard to deal him with his huge contract. How many years does he have left on it anyway? That would be pretty much the only way to get rid of him.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 1:52 pm

I dont know but I think its more than 3 years left.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 2:00 pm

I don't get it. He's been active on the boards and he can score some points from inside and out. What more can you ask?

I don't see any difference in the way Bosh is playing right now. He's just trying a few new things that don't seem to be working really well right now.

Sat Nov 05, 2005 2:57 pm

Our big men need alot of work. We were out rebounded 46-35 and thats bad. Bosh had only seven boards but its only the beginning of the season so I know they're will be improvements. Like Its_asdf said, he is trying some new things. He is taking some long jumpers now and trying out new moves down in the post. As for Villanueva, he has made some rookie mistakes but he is doing the best he can to help this team. He is giving 100% everynight has been scoring inside and outside.

The Raptor I am very impressed by iz Jose Calderon. He simply had an amazing game despite the loss. He played his heart out and this kid has spirit. Dishing the ball, rebouding, scoring and hustling his ass to get the team back into the game. I can really see him start.

I also like the idea of Mo Pete coming off the bench. He brings his A game everytime he gets off the bench. I wanna see more from Joey Graham, the person who is taking his position.

As for Araujo, fans booed him when he missed 2 easy, I mean EASY shots. I still feel sorry for the guy but he really gotta pick up that game. I want this guy to suceed in the NBA.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:35 am

Arujo needs to be more dominate in the key. He needs to really puch when he's posting up. He should try to dunk in the key more or try to do what shaq does. I know, I know... He isnt Shaq but he should atlast try a couple of those things.

I second that...I've been impressed with Calderon. This guy is smooth. He has a pass first mentality and that's what the Raptors need. He's also explosive. He gets that first step..most of the time he's gonna beat u.

hipn..u really can't blame villanueva for not working hard enough. Those espn guys put enough pressure on the kid. He's a rook..he's going to make some rookie mistakes. He's been working hard..and he, calderon and mo pete are really giving the second unit a lift.

as far as chris bosh dishing it out to an open team mate "more that he's attacking the rim", it's because , if u haven't noticed, he's getting more and more attention and he's getting double teamed. Guys in the NBA know what he's capable of..and if you leave him one on one, he's going to beat most power fowards in the league. I really have no problem with how Chris is playing right now.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 2:38 am

O and BTW Bosh really needs to cut donw on those fancy moves like between the legs because hes been falling down (whiel attempting those moves) since last season.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 5:53 am

i think bosh needs some work on his game, he's streaky as hell. i mean for a big man he shouldn't be shooting 38%. he shouldn't have had that much trouble yesterday. he had nenad krstic defending him (who isn't that good of a defender), jason collins and marc jackson.. two other people he should've gotten by with his length and speed. also i noticed they were forcing him right and even though he can use his right hand he's not very good at it. he had a nice pumpfake on collins where he had enough space to finish with his right hand but he bricked it instead.

other than the 2001 alvin williams the raptors have had their share of getting shitty point guards. if you want to truly see "how good" a point guard is, bring them to toronto to play for the raptors. who have the raps gotten to play the point the last couple seasons? rafer alston - bum. milt palacio - bum. i thought mike james was a good trade during the summer but the guy just makes horrible decisions. a 3 pointer with 19 seconds left on the clock? good call buddy. i like jose calderon though, sam should use him more. pass first point guard who makes good decisions and goes for shots only if he knows he can makes them. he controls the tempo really well and from what i've noticed, is really the only guy that gives bosh his touches. (unlike his teammates who feed him the ball with 6 seconds left on the clock)

watching loren woods start for an NBA team just makes me think i can make it to the NBA. this guy ABSOLUTELY SUCKS.

i like the rookies joey graham and charlie villanueva. joey's still pretty raw but he's going to be a good player in the league. he's pretty strong and tough. nice touch and a good defender (he'll get better). charlie has a nice stroke as well and he's tough as nails. he doesn't do those 10 foot hook shots (*cough* loren woods *cough*) like some people on the team are accustomed to doing. he goes straight at you and loves banging on the boards. good finisher too.

rafael araujo sucks. this might be the worse babcock acquisition ever.

mo pete is the man. probably the one that plays with the most desire on the team. like many other people though he needs to take his time and not rush his 3 pointers. his defense is underrated, i think. he gave gilbert arenas a tough time in the season opener and he had his moments with vince when he was guarding him. i love his shot, though.

get rid of jalen rose. this guy should be a role model for the team but the shit he pulled last night was ridiculous. he took the matchup against VC personally and decided to go iso the majority of the time... and the shots weren't even falling! you're a good player jalen but not that good. play within the team concept douchebag, if anything you're probably the reason why the raps did so horribly last night. queer.

matt bonner sucks.

Against the NETS Bosh virtually played outside the ENTIRE GAME. It's true he got limited touches, but come on the guy has to start living up to his expectations and take things down low. Especially against (my favorite team) the NETS who aren't exactly stacked on the frontline...

Anyway... The Raptors just need a new GM, new coach, and to let Rose's contract expire and then they can finally start to work towards a new era...

Sun Nov 06, 2005 10:01 am

I like Sam Mitchell but I guess I really haven't been paying attention to his coaching style. Why don't you guys like him?

Sun Nov 06, 2005 10:07 am

I personally like Mitchell, but some people say that he seems a bit demanding and people might take his words the wrong way.

I think Sam needs to work a little more on organizing our defence a little more and setting up some more organized offesnive plays. Sometimes it's a pain to watch the Raptors just come down the floor 8 consecutive times and shoot a pull-up three.

He's a rookie coach, sometimes you have go to through growing pains with a rookie coach just like you do with a rookie player.

I think Mitchell can be a pretty good coach in the league if he is given a fair shot. I think he is in the perfect situation where he can learn how to coach with his team learning how to play. Him and his players are both young and learning how to do their jobs so hopefully they can peak at the same time.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 11:09 am

There's nothing wrong with the staff, its just certain players like Jalen Rose, he's the biggest problem out of them all. H takes dumb shots and doesn't play D.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:10 pm

At least he was helping us with 27 points today.

We just got our asses kicked by 30 and next up is Cleveland.

Bosh had an "off" game I can say. 15 and 6 today. I didn't really see the game but by some of the stats I can tell.

As always we got our asses kicked on rebouding. Are leading rebounder was Jalen Rose with ... 6 damn rebounds !!! We were out rebound again 53-35. By 18 folks, c'mon as well as a 16-3 edge on the offensive glass.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:17 pm

wo got our ass drilled.... btw did anybody see Aaron Williams' finger??

Sun Nov 06, 2005 1:46 pm

Another bad example of the Raptors. I know they can do better, but they're not. I gave up at half-time and watched the Leafs instead.

Sun Nov 06, 2005 3:45 pm

Aaron WIlliam's fingers was f***ed up, but luckily he got the figners back into the sockets or w/e they're called. And BTW that was a nice block...
