Best Non-All Star players

Postby Amphatoast on Sun Oct 23, 2005 5:27 pm

Every year someone gets snubbed of an all-star appearance due to popularity of certain players ( example- vince carter). Then somethings just turn out to be standard like right now I can say the Western Conference All-star starting 5 will be yao, duncan, KG, kobe, mcgrady which means some people won't make it due to lack of space. With all this said who are some top players that just never made the all star team. The only names that come to mind are Mike Bibby and Jason Richardson

Chauncey Billups. He is such a good playoff player, so smooth and he's clutch. I cant think of another player I'd want as my pg in the playoffs with the exception of Iverson.

Another player that comes to mind is Jalen Rose. His performance in the 2000 playoffs was overlooked by Reggie, but he was the Pacers best player that season. Its amazing that Stackhouse got to the all star game that year and Rose didnt (and im a big stackhouse fan).

Yeah, Rose was great in that 2000 season, nobody believed he would make such impact in the league when he was playing for the nuggets, then suddenly he had a breakout year, his best year ever, i may say.

Id wasnt sudden. He was traded to the pacers in 97 for Marc Jackson (who would be traded back to the pacers later that season for a conditional draft pick). In 98, Rose was a big reason the Pacers pushed the Bulls to 7 games. in 99, Rose all but took over the sf job from mullin, despite the fact Mullin was still the starter. So it wasnt like he was buried on the bench in indy and suddenly broke out.

But I will agree, 2000 was his best season.

Ron Artest hasn't been an All-Star yet....so he'd be on that list....the Detroit guards definitely....Elton Brand....Mike Bibby....Larry Hughes I think didn't make team last year as he was injured (although I could be wrong)....

Elton Brand and Artest have both been all stars. Artest in 2004, and Brand in 2002.

Damn straight, Jalen Rose was the shit back then.

But right now he's nothing but a trashtalking, overpaid, shot-chucking player that has defence that makes Glen Robinson's defence look good.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I think Ron Harper ended his career without an All-star appearance right? So I think he deserves some recognition because was a monster in the Clippers.

You're partially right, but you have to look farther back in the playoffs to see who really was the most important player to the team. Reggie single handedly (with a little help from Travis Best  ) got the team out of the first round series against Milwaukee. Jalen Rose put up decent numbers, but played awful defense and took some bad shots in the clutch. That's why he was on the bench at the end of game 5.

Then in the second round, Jalen and Reggie put up the memorable 40 points each in game 1, but after that Jalen disappeared. Especially during the Reggie/Matt Geiger fight. Mark and Dale were right at his side helping and Jalen was nowhere to be found.

Game 3 of the ECF was the most telling. Reggie has proved over and over again to be able to pull off 4th quarter comebacks, but with Jalen in that position, he failed. Yes, he scored 22 points in the quarter, but the stats are misleading. He didn't make the shots he needed to, and seemed to be resting himself on the other side of the floor. Then in game 6 it was MILLER who scored 34 points with 17 in the 4th to seal the teams trip to the finals.

Stack averaged 29ppg (?) thought and probably 4-5 assists per game. It's hard to overlook that though.

Andre Miller is best non all star player. I haven't seen anybody throw such good alley oops (not even Nash) then him. He can also drive to the hoop and shoot midrangers!
