NEW YORK -- New York Knicks and Rangers owner James Dolan has been hospitalized and is expected to undergo heart surgery Monday.

The 50-year-old CEO of Cablevision -- which owns the Knicks, Rangers and Madison Square Garden -- checked into a hospital Saturday to prepare for bypass surgery.

"His physicians expect him to make a full and complete recovery," the company said in a statement.

Dolan led a successful fight this past summer against New York mayor Michael Bloomberg to block the development of a stadium and convention center in midtown Manhattan. The company felt that the stadium, a key component of the city's failed Olympic bid and prospective home for the New York Jets, would have competed with the Garden.

Our problems go back further than Dolan. We never had smart ownership in NY. Too much short-term win-now thinking and lousy draft picks. If it wasn't for Patrick(our best pick in 20 years), we'd be in even worse shape.

It's only my opinion, but I guess they would have been better off by choosing # 13 in that draft...

Besides that, you could make a case that they didn't screw up too bad in the draft until 1992 (if we forget the Kenny Skywalker incident), because of the simple fact that they were either involved in really shitty, tin foil deep drafts, or just didn't have the position to do something better. 1992 was when they let Sprewell slip for the privilege of picking Hubert Davis. Now that's screwing up...

No buyout Davis is a Knick now


Antonio Davis' place in Knicks history is already secured. He was the innocent bystander when Larry Johnson sank a memorable three-pointer against the Indiana Pacers in the 1999 playoffs that miraculously became a four-point play.

"Hell no," Davis said yesterday when asked if he indeed fouled Johnson. "I never touched him."

Davis can't rewrite history, but he has the chance to create some in a Knicks uniform, which seemed impossible just a few days ago. Davis finally joined the Knicks yesterday, two weeks after being acquired in the controversial Eddy Curry trade. Davis, 36, didn't want to leave his hometown Chicago Bulls, and from the outset there was talk of a buyout. But after Davis had time to reflect on the move - and after a meeting with Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas - he claims he is a Knick ... for as long as Thomas wants him.

"I'm here," Davis said before last night's 114-99 preseason loss to the 76ers at the Garden. "I was devastated by it, but the thing is as you go toward the end of your career, everything is settled, everything is good. You're going into training camp feeling, 'If I can just get through this year. The family is stable and everything and I'll be all right.' Then you get traded.

"Obviously you're thinking about change, thinking about kids and thinking about our foundation being disrupted. There are a lot of mixed feelings. But none of it had anything to do with basketball or this city."

Davis reported to the Knicks' camp in Charleston, S.C., last Tuesday but stayed for less than 24 hours before returning to Chicago because of a family illness. The Knicks gave Davis permission to leave but began fining him on Friday when he failed to return.

"I just wanted to sit down with (Larry and Isiah) and clear the air on a few things," he said, "just so I could fully embrace this situation and go about the situation at hand."

Davis played for Brown in Indiana, and the coach believes that Davis can play a vital role both on the court and in the locker room, where the power forward has already taken over Allan Houston's vacated stall.

Don't worry too much. It's looking like the NYK finally got one right in this year's draft. My guess is Phoenix will be sorry for letting Nate Robinson go .

To tell you the truth , I really think that Robinson isn't going to be a star . He's too much of a ballhog to play PG . I barely see him pass unless hes being guarded by 2 people or is driving and about to get blocked . I understand he's young , thats why I'm not blasting him. I just hope he learns how to play the Point soon.

I see a much better future for Frye and Lee.
Robinson is a good player, he can shoot, handle the ball, qualities a PG nowadays needs to have, but he is really overhyped because he is 5"9 and can dunk. I hate it when people say the like the Knicks this year because of Robinson.

He's such a lousy rebounder, that it isn't even funny anymore. He's 7'0'' with his shoes on and has probably around 300 pounds to go with a pretty decent athleticism. So not only he can beat his opponent with his size, he could also simply outjump him. But no, he doesn't even want to. It's all about desire. And you look at the stats per minute - Jerome James is also as bad as you can get in that area.

Why do some people still think Isiah is a genius? What is so genius about the fact he gets players pretty much nobody else wants? If the New Yorkers survived through all those years of bad basketball, the could suffer through another two or three years of rebuilding. Imagine if Isiah took that way and still kept his guts - he could still sign Curry (I would take Pachulia&Maurice Evans instead of James) and pick the players he picked or traded for. And of course, traded Jamaal Crawford's sorry ass to someone like Denver (for one of their big PGs - either Watson or Miller) 0and Marbury to someone dumb enough to take him. Perhaps Marbury to Toronto for Jalen Rose&Toronto's second 1st round pick in 2005 (I would take Green or Granger) and a future first. Toronto could actually be stupid enough to make this trade happen.

Now throw a decent up-and-coming coach into the mix, and you got yourself a bunch of decent role players who would get you a top pick or two in next couple of years, plus a chance to wait for Knicks' contract to expire, which would free most of their capspace and give them ability to actualy try if anyone wants to play for them. I know it's only one of those what-if scenarios, but I can never resist being a armchair GM .

It's not an excuse, Curry is a really bad rebounder, but you're just taking words out of their context just to make the Knicks look bad.
Maybe you should just try to make some 'friends' in this community and have some nice conversations with fellow NBA-fans instead of trying to make everyone look stupid, trying to prove people wrong and be a smartass (keyword: trying, I'm not impressed)?
It's pretty well-known Curry can't rebound to save his life, no need to teach this to Knicks fans.. I know the problems the Knicks have right now, but it's so easy to kick a man while he's down..

I don't think pointing out that, as things are now, your liliputian rookie point guard is outrebounding your projected starting center to be a "smartass" statement, but rather an ironic coment and a praise for Nate Robinson's game, since I believe he will be the steal of this draft. I honnestly think that it is an anedoctical situation, and I think I'm not the only one feeling that way.

I don't think it's my fault if you feel I'm trying to make you look stupid, since it has never been my objective towards you or anybody else. I can't even remember a post where I antagonized you. If you feel that way, that can only mean your a tad too susceptible, so breath in and relax, ok? It's the Knicks we're talking about

Besides, I'm always in for a good discussion. It's not my mission to prove people wrong. I try to backup my arguments, as other posters do, in order to justify why do I think in a certain way regarding any subject. it's not like I'm giving away opinions without justification.

Putodelagoa does have a point though. Most people of Curry's stature have the physical tools to be dominate at both rebounding and scoring from the inside. He definitely has his scoring down pat, but if you're paying the guy that much money to only put points on the board.........

Curry is lazy , Period. Nate hustles to get rebounds , Curry just waits for them to come to him . I admit it , I don't praise Curry , but I know if Larry whips him up , he'll do good . He can be a monster if he actually starts working.
