I think the Lakers have better chances if Kwame starts playing like he SHOULD, and don't argue with Kobe. Phil Jackson is also a big reason so the team can make the playoffs.

I'm not sure about "always" a good team on paper, but they have had injury problems every year since 2001. So this season it's all about how the injuries work out for the team.

Lakers
no wonder

Clippers will be more solid than Lakers... Lakers still have only Kobe and then Odom only. Last season they had Caron and now he's replaced by Brown... I don't know how Phil will get this team to play, but I don't think he can get them together until Kobe steps off his throne and realizes the team doesn't win if he tries to do everything by himself.

MJ didn't do everything himself although he could have done more. He did a lot, but he had realized that in order for him to be fresher and more able to finish the game strong, he'd have to share the ball more and take over in the fourth. Kobe is trying to play 48 minutes controlling the ball all the time... Even MJ couldn't do that, how could someone like Kobe accomplish that???

Clippers with a healthy Cassell will go into the play-offs. They have the right pieces to make it, but as fgrep15 said alot of the Clippers fortunes rely on people staying healthy. They've had a run of bad luck with injuries in the last couple of seasons and that is basically the reason why they have underperformed...

When healthy the Clippers have an edge over the Lakers.

L.A the one man team is better than the Clippers :o

Lakers.

Kobe could take them...

Just..they don't do as well without Shaq

The Heat should do good this year.

Clippers much better talent overall, plus MUCH better frontcourt. (Not saying Kaman is good, but that Elton Brand is THAT good.)

Brand is "ok" not great.

Elton Brand is better than "ok".

Maybe, but I would like to see him get a bit better.

He's practically max'd out at potential, there is only so much he can do in his body.

Right.

He needs to see the ball a bit more. I still say Lakers cold beat the clippers any time any game.

Clippers

They're line-up overall is better. For all these people saying the Lakers are better because they had Kobe. Were they better last year? Nope.

Clippers were 3 better in the loss column.

lol.... but don't count out the intagibles. phil is a superior motivator as a coach and i believe he can harness kwame into a 15/9/3 player. and although the clippers have superior depth compared to the lakers they have a player named kobe bryant who is hungry to prove those critics wrong. ill go out on a limb and say he'll turn into a better team player. odom is also hungry to prove critics wrong and the lakers have interesting projects not to mention a steady veteran.... lakers will sneak in for the playoffs this year barely bypassing gs(due to b diddys injuries) and lose to the spurs or rockets in 5

Elton Brand is a guaranteed double double, or even a guaranteed 20-10 every game. How is that just "ok"? He's been in a shitty team for so long, that's why they think he's just ok. He's one of the most underrated forwards there are!

19.5 PPG 10.4 RPG 2 BPG CAREER AVERAGE!! You know how many few players can do that nowadays? Also his .496 FG% is good and his .726 FT% is ok...

they are good stats. i can't wait till the lakers and clippers play each other. have to tape it off espn.

Agreed. He should be an allstar.

Brand's just one of those players that's constantly under the radar. He's not flashy and he's on a lottery team so his numbers don't attract much attention.
