DOWN TO THE WIRE

UTAH JAZZ: 116
PHOENIX SUNS: 114

Image
November 5, 2005. Salt Lake City, Utah - The Utah Jazz, winners of their first 2 contests faced against the powerful Phoenix Suns led my playmaker Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire.

Right from the tipoff the Jazz went running and the Suns had no answer for them. At the pace this game was going, it looked like a replay of the Jazz's first game. Andrei Kilirenko was absolutly on fire and was pouring in points from all over the court. The Suns began to catch fire near the end of the first quarter and narrowed the gap to 9 points.

The second quarter was a totally different story as the Suns totally dominated the Jazz in every aspect of the game. They Jazz were outrebounded by a ratio of 4:1 in this quarter, and missed many easy shots. Jerry Sloan, coach of the Jazz was absolutly furious, but his fury would turn to dismay as he watched his starting shooting guard Gorden Giricek collide with Amare Stoudemire of the runs and came down holding his elbow. Fellow foward Matt Harpring came in for Giricek, and the team soon learned that Giricek had only suffered a Arm Injury, but will still be able to play.
Image Image

5 Minutes after Giricek was injured, Suns foward Amare Stoudmire drove and went up for a dunk, but Mehmet Okur was in his way and Stoudmire drew the foul on Okur, but at the same time he was injured and it also turned out to be an arm injury. Stoudmire was allowed to return to the game as well, though his injury appeared more serious than Giriceks and seriously hindered his performance.
Image Image

By by the end of the 2nd quarter, the Suns had a small lead at 63 - 60, holding the Jazz to only 15 points, 30 less than their 1st quarter output.

The 3rd quarter was more of the same story but it seemed that if the Jazz were not going to score, then neither were the Suns. This quarter involved bad decisions on both sides and failed attempts to convert, with the Suns scoring 22 points and the Jazz 19, ending the quarter at 85 - 79 Suns.

As the 4th quarter came about, it was as though something lit a fire in the Jazz and everyone became a crucial part of the game. Point by point they worked their way back, and one extremely crucial point was when Andrei Kirilenko missed a 3 point attempt, Center Danial Santiago grabbed the rebound and kicked it out to Kirilenko, who attempted another 3 and missed, and Santiago jumped over Stoudemire and grabbed the board again and kicked it out to Kirilenko again, who finally made the shot to even the game. The Suns made a drive with about 2 minutes left, which gave them a 3 point lead with 50.4 seconds left, that is when everything went downhill for them. Andrei Kirilenko faked to the right and crossed back to the left, and though Steve Nash was able to keep up, Kirilenko was able to rise up over him and drain the 3. The Suns called timeout. Several positions later with the Jazz leading 114-111, and 17.1 seconds left, Walter McCarty drove to the basket, and was fouled by Giricek, the problem for the Jazz was that McCarty went through the foul and slamed the ball down, giving himself an opportunity for a 3 point play and to tie the game. McCarty made the free throw and it was 114-all. On the ensuing play, Deron Williams brought the ball down and somehow sneaked it by Steve Nash to Kirilenko in stride for the dunk. With 4 seconds left, Jim Jackson took the ball and drove in, and laid the ball in just as the buzzer sounded. Jackson celebrated, but after the review of tape, it was determined that the ball was still on his fingertips as the buzzer sounded, therefore the basket doesn't count and gives the Jazz the victory, 116- 114.

Thanks man, I though I wasn't gonna get my laptop back until like next week or something, but hey, it was back in a day, but I couldn't do anything that day, but had a bit of free time yesterday. Thanks man.

Thanks dude, and amare, what a beast, maybe I should try to trade for him. And what they said about the playmaker superstar not being to effective? somewhat true, cause Nash used it sometimes to throw a pass so fast that I have no idea where it goes.
And Amare's a power player, so he just damn jumps over everyone, besides the pictures I posted, he must have jumped over bogut some more too, and he's not the only one that postered bogut a bunch of times.

I also made a trade that got rid of my lineup of stacked centers.

JAZZ INVOLVED IN FOUR-MAN TRADE

Nov 6, 2005. Salt Lake City - The Utah Jazz announced Sunday morning that they have aquired swingman Boris Diaw from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Greg Ostertag, Daniel Santiago, and Ben Handlogten.

Diaw was currently making 1.13 million dollars while average 1.0 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 2.7 APG. Combined the three Jazz players were making a total of 5.8 million dollars, this allowed the Jazz to free up even more cap room and add a young and rising guard.

Before the trade, the Jazz were stacked up front, but with not too much experience. Mehmet Okur was the starting center, with Andrew Bogut a center, but agreeing to play power foward. Behind them there were Ostertag, Santiago, Handlogten, and Collins. With 3 gone, the Jazz are down to 10 players with the addition of Diaw, but they are more balanced now with the centers being Okur and Collins, and Bogut and Humphries as power fowards, Kirilenko and Harpring are the small fowards, Giricek and Diaw will share the shooting guard position, with Giricek starting until Diaw can prove to knock him off, and Williams and Mcleod at point guard.

With over 10 million dollars free in CAP space, look for the Jazz to sign one or 2 of the big names on the free agent market or make more trades, but this trade seems like another win for the Jazz, certainly Diaw isn't complaining about coming to Utah. After arriving in Utah, Diaw even agreed to a small, one-on-one match vs. his compainion at shooting guard, Giricek, and proceeded to dismantle him with ease. If this continues, Diaw may find himself in the starting lineup soon.

Well, I guess if you look at the bars for interest of these 3 guys there were all nearly full and the hawks had like a couple million CAP free, and I just request it and it went through, they were needing big men and I needed a SG, best of both worlds.

Thanks dude, I will.

Kobe101 wrote:Good trade. Preparing for the off-season?

Lol, most likely, but I might waste this CAP room on trading or signing a big named free agent, but keeping CAP room open is good cause I don't have anyone going into free agency this season or the next, i think

GAME OF THE YEAR?

UTAH JAZZ: 131
CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: 129

Image

November 7, 2005. Salt Lake City, Utah - This November 7th match up pinned the 0-3 Charlotte Bobcats against the surprisingly 3-0 Utah Jazz. Right off the bat the Jazz were off with Andrew Bogut slamming home a dunk over Bobcats guard Brevin Knight. This early dunk set the tempo for the Jazz in the first quarter, though Emeka Okafor was able to prevent most of the inside penetration, the backcourt of Deron Williams, Gordon Giricek, and newly acquired Boris Diaw was spectacular, dishing out assists and hitting the outside shots; Small Forward Andrei Kirilenko was as good as well, hitting running trees over Gerald Wallace and Okafor. The first quarter score ended with the Jazz on top 38 – 29.

Just by looking at the score, you may have though the Jazz cruised again, but in truth the quarter was a battle. Emeka Okafor came alive and was dominated on both sides of the court. His offense bombardment includes huge dunks over Kris Humphries and Mehmet Okur that brought the Charlotte fans to their knees. Another player who was extremely valuable to the Bobcats in the 2nd quarter was rookie Raymond Felton out of the University of North Carolina. Felton did a good job dishing the ball to Okafor, and played lockdown defense on backup guard Keith Mcelod. In one possession, Felton registered 6 tipped balls, and the Bobcats turned the end of the 2nd quarter by forcing a shot clock violation. The Bobcats locked down neared the end, but still allowed many made shots by the Jazz, and thus falling behind 67 – 55.

As the 3rd quarter began, both teams started exactly where they left off, save for the fact that the Jazz seem to have a little bit more steam to blow off and began to play physical, knocking Emeka Okafor down several times to the floor without any fouls. Despite this, bench players suck as Bogans and May stepped up and delievered several key baskets to keep the Bobcats within range. Still in the end, the Jazz kept the lead, 94 – 85 in yet another high scoring game. The Jazz are currently tops in the league in scoring, and nobody expected this to happen.

At the beginning of the forth quarter the Bobcats knew that they had to start out strong and fast or they will never have chance to win the game. The unlikely hero? Tiny Brevin Knight, who scored 10 points of a variety of short runners, layups, offensive boards, and more. And of course star Emeka Okafor was outstanding, drawing double teams and still converting, including a huge one handed jam that also drew a foul on Andrew Bogut, and converting on the free throw to draw the Cats closer, 102-100. But on the ensuing place, Andrew Kirilenko went up for a fast break three, casing Wallace to defend the shot, and Kirilenko simply threw a pass to Gordon Giricek in midair, and Giricek finished with a dunk to end the Bobcat’s run. Finally Primo Brezec finished a up and under shot to tie the game with six minutes left. After a Kirienko layup, the Bobcats gained their first lead of the game off a Kareem Rush 3-pointer. After trading misses, Emeka Okafor drew a huge dunk and foul on Andrew Bogut, his 4th foul, after the made free throw, the Bobcats are ahead by 2 possessions, 114 – 110. The lead did not last long as Deron Williams scored on a fast-break layup and on the next possession, Okafor came out to double Bogut, leaving Okur unguarded, who jammed the ball in to tie it all at 114. With the score tied at 129 with less than a minute to go, the Bobcats blocked a potential game-breaking ally-hoop from Kirilenko intended for Giricek, and kept the game tied. After a Okur dunk, Brezec again came up big with an offensive rebound for a dunk, tying the game with 21 seconds left. Amazingly, Okur once again got the ball and dunked it despite contact from Okafor, and the Bobcats called timeout to regroup with 1.2 seconds left. On the inbounds play, the ball went to Rush, and he shoots… but it clanked off the rim and the Jazz escape with a win, 131 – 129. This has to be one of the most intense high scoring games I have ever seen and it is certainly a joy for all to have watched. The Bobcats fall to 0-4 on the season while the Jazz improve to a league leading 4-0. Emeka Okafor was named the player of the game with 54 points and 22 rebounds in the losing effort.
