NEW for 10/18! Name That Scouting Report!

Postby EGarrett on Fri Oct 14, 2005 9:41 am

I've always wanted to bring this game back...but I had a hard time finding players who's scouting reports were interesting enough.

Well lo and behold! I got a hold of Street and Smith's "50 Greatest College Basketball Players of All Time" magazine...and I'm going to be using that, in addition to several websites...so that we can now list players from ANY era!

Here are the rules...

I've cleared my Inbox completely. DON'T post your answer. PM me with it, and put the player's name in the subject line. In one or two days, I'll reply with the right answer and will list who answered correctly and who answered first.

The current champion is Alex Italo...with Fgrep15, Ben, and Shane Hefty among the best players. I don't know who among them still checks the boards, but they might still be interested in playing.

But anyway...let's PLAY!

Can you name the current or former NBA player who had THESE comments in his predraft scouting report?
"...One of those mystery players that can make a draft so interesting..."

"...Position: Center
Other positions: Virtually anywhere in the frontcourt..."

"...Strengths: Height, shot-blocking, agility, ballhandling for a forward, shooting ability, quickness..."

"...Weakness: Weight too low, lack of experience, generally an unknown quantity..."

"...took two years off on his religious mission in Australia, and decided to come out early, presumably to beat the pending rookie salary cap..."

"...he gained 30 pounds while in Australia. He still needs at least another 20-30 pounds before he can legitimately bang around in the NBA..."

"...one wonders what someone huge like Shaq might do to him..."

"...his strength and stamina will also be big factors considering a two-year layoff where he played no ball at all..."

"...He knows how to take full advantage of his height, knowing that he only needs to get decent position to block a shot..."

"He is a very good ballhandler for his size and a good passer. He also is a decent shooter, but will need to add a consistent hook shot to really be effective."

"...will change entire team's offenses..."

"...uf a team needs an immediate impact player on the post, _______ may not be your man. But if you have someone semi-decent inside, or perhaps an aging center, take _______."

"He is a likely top-five pick."

"...might either be a franchise player that could dominate the NBA or..."

You'll probably either get this immediately or not at all.

Feel free to discuss here, as long as you don't give it away too much. Try to PM me your answer before you read the replies. Unless you're stumped.

Your answer!

Image
SHAWN BRADLEY

-Played for Brigham Young University
-Spent 2 years on a Mormon Mission to Australia
-Was 7'7" 200 pounds when he debuted for BYU, got up to 230 in Australia.
-Surprisingly athletic in his younger days.

This round's winner was GLOVEGUY! He was the person to answer correctly.

The rest of the Top 5.

2. Colin
3. amPM
4. Jona
5. Indy

Okay, your next player. Let's ratchet up the difficulty.

Can you name the current or former NBA player who had THESE comments in his predraft scouting reports?

"NBA Superscout Marty Blake said he'd be the most exciting freshman guard in college basketball in 50 years."

"...Rookie of the Week an unprecedented 10 times."

"______, Oliver and Scott were dubbed 'Lethal Weapon Three.' All averaged more than 20 points."

"The things he could do with a basketball made ___ fans, coaches and players shake their heads."

"'He's not like a lot of those New ???? guards you see put it behind their backs and betwen their legs and never go anywhere,' Scott said during ________'s freshman year."

"Coach Bobby Cremins knew ________ came to him with unbelievable expectations and other qualities."

"...guard for the U.S. team, ________ was a silver medalist..."

"...a smooth lefty..."

"Played against Bobby Hurley at Duke, Chris Corchiani (N.C. State), John Crotty (Virginia). None was in ________'s league."

"...he averaged 25.9 points..."

"I'm a very likable person. I didn't want people to think I was too cocky."

"...set the Tech single-game scoring record with a 50-point outburst."

"________ suggested he was the 'only pure ????? guard in the league.'"

"For two seasons...no ????? guard was better."

PM your answers to me! Try to send an answer before you read the replies...as people will most likely give it away.

Feel free to discuss, but do avoid the obvious clues.

Okay, I'll help Garrett with these, here's one. PM ME for this one.

____ is only in his third year of organized ball, yet has already
drawn comparisons to the likes of Ewing, Olajuwon, Motumbo and O'Neal.

Defensively, ____ is a good post defender, strong enough to defend the
biggest centers, who is athletic enough to defend on away from the basket.
_____ is also a topnotch rebounder.

Offensively, ____has little more then a dunk for a repertoire. He
also had poor footwork and will require a lot of work.

The potential upside to ____ game will more then likely make him
the first center taken (definitely a lottery pick).

It is rumored that ____ has already hired an agent and has left school,
making it impossible for him to go back if he does not like the team
that drafted him.

Guard, Lefty and Tech should be enough for anyone who got some knowledge of the NBA of the 90's  he paired with another lefty to make one of the most promising duo of the 90's, he also missed part of his rookie season cause he couldn't agree on the amount of his contract
