can't say he didn't earn it, but i'd pick Gooden over him anyday....more consistant, and if i'm building a team i'd prefer a solid 15 and 10 player than somebody like Stoudamire who can drop 20 and 10 one game, but only get 4 and 6 the next...

meanwhile...Yao is not close to deserving it....he had a few good games, but he hasn't proven (yet) to be a solid big man...averaging Sean Bradley stats.....yet i'm sure he'll get better over the years...but he defenatly isn't a ROY...

meanwhile Butler had an alright year, but he had no chance to even be recognized because of his team...

and he're something interesting in that article...

Stoudemire would be the third Phoenix Suns player to win the award, following Alvan Adams in 1976 and Walter Davis in 1998. He would be the first player to come directly from high school and win the honor.

who the fuck is that guy?

Tim Duncan was the 1998 Rookie of the Year, so they are wrong, and I believe Walter Davis is the Uncle of Hubert Davis but I´m not sure

Walter Davis is the guy who was mistaken to have won the ROY during 1998...

Walter Davis is way too old to be the 98 rookie, lol. He was rookie of the season in 1978.

Go Amare! AMARE! AMARE! AMARE!

He deserved to win it. (Y) But it looks like i'm going to have to change a question in the Basketball Tips game.

What? Yao and Amare both averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds. If you're going to criticize one person over another at least come up with a valid reason

who the hell told u it was offcial???
MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Amare Stoudemire will win the NBA's rookie of the year award, according to a survey by the East Valley Tribune.....

its not on nba.com, they say he's the likely ROY!!

Wed Apr 23, 2003 11:44 pm

Yeah, i'm scratching my head here...:?

LMFAO! Classic :D

Thu Apr 24, 2003 3:24 am

hmmm..well.....ok its not official yet but he will win it. I will have to change the topic title I guess lol

Thu Apr 24, 2003 3:43 am

If Amare wins it alone, I'll be disappointed.

I think it would be more fair to split it between Amare & Yao.

Both had good rookies campaigns.

both of them gave a much needed inside presence to their teams but I have to go with Amare for the sole reason of the Suns reaching the playoffs...

It's True! Coach Confirms Rookie of the Year Rumors
Suns forward Amaré Stoudemire will be named the 2002-03 'got milk?' Rookie of the Year during a Thursday afternoon press conference, confirmed Frank Johnson during his "Talk to the Coach" program on KTAR. Check back with Suns.com for the most in-depth coverage, plus be sure to visit our Nestle Crunch Playoff Index for the latest on Stoudemire and the Suns, who return to the court Friday night for Game 3 of their first round series with the Spurs at America West Arena.

ok ok... but as far as sharing goes, yao was the the key player for rockts, amre wasnt he was a role player, yet look at what he has achived, so he does deserve it more then yao

Thu Apr 24, 2003 7:21 pm

Well, my prediction was Amare/Yao for co-ROY, though I've been leaning towards Amare the last few games of the regular season...I guess I was half-right.

Yao 'wasn't' the key player for rockets, steve francis is. Yao might be in the future though. I think a reason that persued the award towards Amare (haha...i like my word usage there...yiah...:P) was that he has the best records as a 'Non-college' person.

Well... Pau Gasol didn't go to college... :)

[edit]Moses Malone by the way: rookie season out of high school 18.8PPG, 14.6RPG, with 1.5BPG too.[/edit]

Fri Apr 25, 2003 4:39 pm

You could still say Amare has had the best season for a rookie out of high school in NBA history, since Moses Malone was a rookie in the ABA. At the very least, Amare has had the best rookie among high schoolers in recent history. (Y)

Sat Apr 26, 2003 8:26 am

Yea, Amare has been the best among the "new high schoolers," not countig the few that came in back in the 70's and what not.
