The Denver fans thread

I don't have foxtel or live in America so could all the Denver fans out there keep me up to date with all the latest news and games.
I'd rather here NLSC members opinions then NBA.com views.
Go Denver
Thanks

In Potential Walk Year, Nene Has Never Looked Fitter

Image

Any halfway decent NBA big man due for a new contract next summer had to giggle with each update on the sports ticker.

Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler and Samuel Dalembert each averaged about $10 million in new deals with New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. Even the underachieving Kwame Brown reeled in $8 million per year from the Los Angeles Lakers. What that means locally is the Nuggets' Nene is going to get paid. A lot. Whether it's now, or later.

"If he's on the market next summer with the year I think he's going to have, I think he's going to be in great position," his agent, Michael Coyne, said Wednesday.

Coyne declined to comment on a possible contract extension for the 6-foot-11 Brazilian. The Nuggets face an Oct. 31 deadline to extend his contract or he becomes a free agent next summer.

Nene has a bargaining advantage knowing Phoenix's Amare Stoudemire and Houston's Yao Ming have agreed to extensions. That leaves Detroit's Ben Wallace and Tayshaun Prince, Sacramento's Peja Stojakovic and not much else among free-agent forwards next summer.

Then again, it could hurt Nene if he waits and has an injury- plagued season like last season.

"There's a security versus upside issue, or downside, whatever way you want to look at it," Denver general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said. "Both sides take that risk. ... We'd like him to be here a long time, to a long-term deal."

Those around Nene said he never has looked fitter. He agreed with coach George Karl's assessment that he is more relaxed this season.

"I just try to focus on what I'm doing, focus on the run, the pass and the post," he said.

Nene insisted he is comfortable as a backup to Marcus Camby and Kenyon Martin, as long as he gets steady minutes.

Karl said he hopes to run his offense through the post more this season, meaning he would like to count on Nene as a power player. Nene and Karl are relishing how that might happen under new assistant Tim Grgurich, who is credited with helping Stoudemire elevate his game.

"I say he and Carmelo (Anthony) had the best summer by far," Karl said of Nene. "He's a guy that is only going to get better. But we don't have to coach him. He's just going to get better just by breathing."

Footnotes

The Nuggets have until the end of the month to exercise their $4.7 million option on Anthony, which they will do. ...Karl said Martin was "fatiguing a little bit" in practice Wednesday, which again kept him out of a late scrimmage. ... The Nuggets used Julius Hodge at point guard Tuesday, a spot where Karl said the rookie is most likely to get his practice time early on. ... The Nuggets have added former Kansas center Eric Chenowith.

How does "everyone know" Garnett smokes weed? Has he ever failed a drug test? No. Has he ever shown up on a drug video with crackheads? No. Has he ever admitted to smoking? No. Has he ever been caught? No. So what makes you think he smokes?

Wait I know what it is, Garnett is black and he is an athlete therefore he smokes. Is that is anthony15?

Does "everyone know" that Tim Duncan smokes weed? What about Mark Madsen? Give me a break.

There's no proof man. I think that's the point that Riot's trying to get across. Carmelo on the other hand has appeared on a freaking drug video, so I guess that's more evidence than you have against Garnett, am I right?

money says KG has smoked weed during season.. or at least after the season is over. and guess what, WE DONT FUCKIN CARE. everyone smokes weed (or at least has tried it), nba or not. get over it.

"it's not illegal unless your caught"

anyways, i hope nene gets traded. he's helluva athlete and im pretty sure he'd start anywhere else. he's pretty underated imo, but when he decided to ditch that last name i was like "stupid loser.. better prove it" and he didn't.

if melo can start the year off scoring (whether it strictly be in the paint or 15 feet away from the hoop) 25+, i'll still have confidence in him (elite superstar). from there, he can add range. however, once he starts deciding to launch ill-advised 25 footers, i'll get on him and state he's just another player in the NBA that just wants to show the NBA that he can score a 3. it just sholdn't take 20 attempts until you make one.

marcus camby- impressive year last season, but i don't expect a repeat (health wise). i REALLY hope for him to put those back issues away, this team will benefit from this blockin machine. he's actually a pretty good defender too, not just a leaper.

kmart- nah, i dont see you as an elite PF anymore. shoulda stayed in NJ.. i mean, did you see that no one got on RJ's case once he started the season off on a great note, WITHOUT KIDD? you coulda done the same thing..

andre-mankins provided badass combo last year. andre's never going to gain range on his J, so just let him continue scoring on layups and 10 footers. let mankins do the rest :-)

hope dermarr can make hill-like comeback. helluva athlete with 3 point shot

I call the Denver Nuggets the Denver Thuggets ever since the 2003-2004 Playoff Round 1 when the Nuggets showed zero class against the Timberwolves. Zero class. It was a bunch of thugs out there trying to injury Garnett because they knew they couldn't win any other way.

Plus, you guys talked so much shit that series it was hilarious. The Nuggets are a zero class organization and the players reflect it.

You want me to keep going about the pot smoking? I really thought all that needed to be said was said. But if you think all NBA players smoke pot because they have money then you are dead wrong.
