Dan Dickau traded to Celtics

Postby PHX4ever on Sat Oct 01, 2005 8:18 am

Shira Springer - Boston globe
Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge confirmed last night that the team has agreed in principle to a sign-and-trade deal with New Orleans that would land point guard Dan Dickau in Boston with a three-year contract worth an average of $2.5 million per year.

Ainge said some details of the deal still must be negotiated, including what the Celtics will give to the Hornets. New Orleans will receive a trade exception in the process.

My personal comment: I dont understand what the hornets want to do with their huge salary cap the free agent market is mostly swept and i think hornets need good players to add to their talented guys jamaal magloire and j.r. smith. Dickau effected hornets ball game in a positive way last season he contributed much i think he should have stayed. As for the celtics they needed a point guard after payton is gone and now they have a young and dynamic rotation of young guys marcus banks, delonte west and dan dickau (and rookies could be there too i dont know celtics rookies much). So pretty good move for celtics i think. What about you guys?

Interesting take, but the Hornets did draft Chris Paul with the 3rd pick, so thats the pg they want to run with.

This is the kind of deal that helps everyone involved, the celtics, dickau and the hornets.

Didn't this happen weeks ago or has it just been confirmed now?

Seems like a bit of a logjam to me. I'd expect they'd be giving up at least one of their point guards in return.

The hornets get a 2nd round pick. Good trade for both but now Boston has to get rid of some of their PGs.
